The concept of spies is good but when they do what I posted it's akin to the assfags who in COD sat with a gun pointed at the door and a claymore just inside it.

also, i don't think i ever have the problems you describe. use a different entrance if there is one. sometimes i think you give up because of the most ridiculous, counter-able things.

Fangel, honestly. You just have to know where to look for spies. Once you get it down, you can kill them all the time. You'll never be free of them, as they'll always get kills but they don't have to be such a hassle once you know the game.

^That. Like the fact that this continues to be a problem for you says to me that you're not putting in much effort into countering it at all. You 'claim' to spycheck as pyro all the time, but really I never come across this continuous onslaught from spies that you seem to. Spies are the most paper-thin class in the game; ie, easiest to kill, hands down.

Perhaps you just need to try playing spy and get better at it so you understand what tactics spies use. I find that the only time I really get repeatedly killed by spies are as heavies, or medics. Spy is my most played class with like 32 hours on it or something, and I think playing it helped me understand where spies would be coming from or what to look for. Some spies are just crazy obvious.. that guy you think is your teammate, might not be.

It wasn't the exit I was going out, its that the spy was watching you leave the spawn with dead ringer and hole in your back and was standing still.

Ill spray teammates or fire a rocket into a group to check. Nothing.

Keep playing heavy, you'll get alot better at it and spies won't be a huge problem. A really good spy will find a way to kill a heavy at some point but I limit tons of spy kills by just being cautious. My KDR (kill/death ratio) last night was 7/1 as a heavy. Was getting ridiculous amounts of kills. Especially with RoXer.

dead ringer is way easy to hear.. it's the loudest of the uncloak devices and has a very distinct sound. learn what it sounds like, and if you hear it, look around. The only time you wont hear it is if they are using the saharan spy set, but then they will be using the eternal reward knife (it's part of the set). if he's using eternal reward knife, then odds are he doesn't always have a disguise.. sometimes he will, but that means he'll appear as one of your teammates, so be suspicious of everyone. if he doesn't use that, then he's using manual disguise every time he cloaks, and he'll probably change his disguise each time if he thinks people have caught on.

really, just requires a lot of situation awareness.. gotta know where your teammates are, gotta watch the killfeed, and gotta pay attention to suspicious behavior.

Also, disguised spies almost always have a primary weapon equipped. Spies can switch to secondary weapon by pressing the 'last disguise' button, but you can't switch back, but most don't bother. So some classes are easier to detect as a spy than others. Also, movement speeds. If you see a scout running slower than normal, he's a spy.

Also, don't just click once with pyro.. spray in a circle around you and then keep going. Pyro just requires some 'spidey-sense'. Check around corners, give a good spray around you, and keep going. Ammo is plentiful all around the map, including just walking over dead people's weapons on the ground. Don't be afraid to use your ammo.

also, pretty sure you meant cloak and dagger, as that is the cloak that recharges when you stand still. dead ringer is the one that feigns death when you take damage. easy to tell if someone is dead ringering, but most people unsurprisingly don't pay attention. You can still hear it though. Wear headphones when you play. Makes everything so much better.

Anyone got any rare/strange stuff that isn't for soldier or sniper? i've got a strange shotgun for a soldier, strange jarate, strange sniper rifle and a strange sniper rifle that doesn't do headshots, but sprays the target with jarate on hit.

Yeah, I seem to get them quite a bit, I've got 2 soldier shotguns but I never play sniper or soldier. Got a strange engineer wrench at least.
