I don't know, just saying maybe pttern recognition actually accounts for something.

Ideally, they could remember that a shitty 10 year old superhero movie is not the be all, end all. Perhaps they could look at the good films he's been a part of. Pattern recognition, and all.

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 10:45 PM

Gonna wait and see. Interesting news.

Skippord 08-22-2013 10:48 PM

Ben Affleck isn't even the best actor with the last name Affleck

seems like a wonderfully nice guy and a good director, but I do not like this, Sam I Am.

I even like Daredevil(for some reason) and hate the idea of Ben Affleck playing Batman

Colin Farrell would be better

I'm sure you can name several that are actually similar in possible style and scope to a superhero movie, but I can't. Pattern recognition requires, you know, a pattern.

Sorry to get you all upset and all.

Indeed.

Especially if Baatman kills people with paperclips and peanuts.

Of course, it stands to reason that if an actor is bad in one film in a genre, there's no way that they could ever be good in another film in that genre. Never mind the fact that today's superhero film is pretty far removed from where they were a decade ago.

Lot of available pattern recognition off of that singular superhero film he did.

Battfleck

Skippord 08-23-2013 12:23 AM

Joe Manganiello would've been so much better and taller and more handsome

and with a huge dick probably...I've said too much

Malfeitor 08-23-2013 12:59 AM

I read that they wanted an "older" actor to play Batman and that the front runner was Josh Brolin. That would've been awesome.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-23-2013 01:17 AM

Who would be better to play older Batman than Michael Keaton? Missed opportunity.

Kalyx triaD 08-23-2013 01:34 AM

That would cause all manner of confusion.

Tazz Dan 08-23-2013 04:57 AM

Hey remember when EVERYONE got upset because Heath Ledger was cast to play The Joker, because there's no way he'd never be as good as Nicholson?

parkmania 08-23-2013 05:01 AM

If they wanted A) an older Batman with B) name recognition, why not Bruce Willis?

Oh, and by the way, don't forget it could always have been worse. We could have gotten Matt Damon:

Rammsteinmad 08-23-2013 05:37 AM

Love it DC! Finally doing any kind of crossover movie, and it doesn't even get the actors who established themselves as the characters.

Personally, I love Affleck, but if they really wanted a crossover/team-up appeal, it should be Christian Bale.

did people really get that upset? and it's different because Heath Ledger was a good actor. who wasn't in Pearl Harbor.

Skippord 08-23-2013 05:44 AM

really hoping Jason Lee plays Lex Luthor or something now.

Skippord 08-23-2013 05:45 AM

speaking of Jason Lee, he is not looking great

VSG 08-23-2013 06:54 AM

The way I see it is, it isn't Adam Sandler. So it won't be a comedy movie and thus I will remain optimistic.

Skippord 08-23-2013 07:09 AM

Looking at Ben Affleck's imdb page did not help any of my negative feelings toward this casting.

Skippord 08-23-2013 07:10 AM

It did however make me want them to cast Jon Hamm. So now I'm double mad.

Tommy Gunn 08-23-2013 07:22 AM

+1 for Josh Brolin, fuck Affleck

Corporate CockSnogger 08-23-2013 07:22 AM

Hope he plays him in the style of Adam West. Could put him right at the top of the list of Batmen.

Following that logic, this is the best choice for Batman:

Skippord 08-23-2013 08:15 AM

I've read sooooo many comments saying Kevin Conroy should be Batman

probably would be better than Ben Affleck, but still

The Rogerer 08-23-2013 08:25 AM

Kevin Conroy plays a cheesy Batman that didn't work in the Arkham games. It is clearly a voice acting performance that would look stupid coming from an actual human, and he looks like Rolf Harris.

Love the histrionics.

It does stand to reason that stepping outside the element for which he's known and accomplished in order to do a movie in a genre both out of his comfort zone and in which he's done poorly once before might be at issue.

Now. Do I need to get Fangerl to spoon you and whisper in your ear how awesome Ben Affleck is to soothe the bruised feelings, or....?

That would backfire. It would only serve to remind us of how awesome West was and how much better we'd be watching his Batman movie.

Kevin Conroy is Batman. No, really. That's what's so awesome. He seems unassuming until he puts on the tights and starts jumping around the city with a grappling hook.

DaveBrawl 08-23-2013 01:32 PM

I was one of the 4 people that liked the Daredevil movie, so I have good feelings about this.

Emperor Smeat 08-23-2013 02:56 PM

Leaning towards meh on Affleck as Batman. He probably won't be bad in the role but some of the other names rumored or speculated would have been a better choice.

Kalyx triaD 08-23-2013 03:16 PM

The ineffectiveness of the Heath Ledger/Micheal Keaton examples make me wanna avoid any debates on sight. How many times did something teach us to Wait & See and how many times to people still spazz out on the internet.

I loved the Daredevil movie. I even have a DD movie t-shirt. :D

The Destroyer 08-23-2013 03:36 PM

Going to give Affleck a chance, I guess.

If either of those had previously failed in a comparable movie, this would be a valid argument. But, unless I'm remembering incorrectly and "Mr. Mom" was actually about a man who was bitten by a radioactive mother and became the masked vigilante Mr. Mom, it's not.

Kalyx triaD 08-23-2013 05:44 PM

You're gonna sit here and say A Knight's Tale was quality? And Keaton's backlog was before my interest in him but I'm certain everything he did was not a hit.
