This show is not going to stop me from watching ECW, but I have to say I was pretty dissapointed overall. It came off as flat, and just another show produced by the WWE. I'm willing to wait out, as I feel it will get better, but I can't say this was a good start.

FearedSanctity 06-13-2006 11:02 PM

Pretty bad when one of the highlights of a show is a joke wrestler

Azriel 06-13-2006 11:03 PM

Kids should be prohibited from seeing this. They can have their WWE shows, and maybe unfortunately like someone said, I think Vince is secretly sabotaging ECW with this Invasion stuff.

loopydate 06-13-2006 11:05 PM

The Kelly thing was another thing that actually felt ECW. Reminded me of Kimona on top of the ECW Arena. Although, I thought that she was going to get laid out by Jazz or Trinity or someone.

It was sort of like WWE, since WWE tries to be softcore porn sometimes (see: "Wet & Wild" on Monday), but they try to make it pertain to wrestling, even if just a little bit. ECW was more, "Fuck it, you don't care if she can wrestle or act or have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, you just want to see her take her clothes off. So...here's titties!"

Pepsi Man 06-13-2006 11:05 PM

That wasn't ECW. That's what Jerry Lawler advertised. The King was right. Extremely Crappy Wrestling.

I've enjoyed episodes of WCW Worldwide more.

HaTeR 06-13-2006 11:05 PM

I didn't think the show was great, but it wasn't bad, I think it felt different enough from raw and smackdown to get people to tune in next week and so on...

Shaggy 06-13-2006 11:05 PM

all I can say is Fuck this new ECW....from the minute the show kicked off and the arena was shown I was already let down....

The Fact that Cena showed up and wasnt booed out of the damn building also pisses me off....

AND THE FACT THAT THEY MADE JUSTIN FUCKING CREDIBLE JOB TO ANGLE....REALLY PISSES ME OFF....

sorry but just have to vent....why didnt they just call this WWECW

Crimson 06-13-2006 11:07 PM

Wow, the show sucked. Waterd down, had a Velocity feel to it rather than ECW. The WWE writers and Vince need to keep their hands off and give it all to Heyman godamnit, or it won't work.

You are correct, actually. Often, Francine would roll around on the mat with a random woman, and Styles would scream "CATFIIIIIGHT!", like only he can, but that was about it in ECW.

I'm not pissed that Credible jobbed to Angle. I'm pretty hot at the fact that Angle squashed Credible.

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 06-13-2006 11:12 PM

After this mexicools vs london/kendrick feud, they need to send Crazy and Psicosis to ECW. And Kid Kash. And Nova.

They just need to get away from this "Sabu, Sandman, some WWE guys, and a bunch of jobbers" image people will probably have of it.

weather vane 06-13-2006 11:16 PM

It wasn't amazing or anything but I enjoyed it.

I still have hope for it and it is better than watching Smackdown.

Corndad 06-13-2006 11:16 PM

Quite Dissapointing Show... Only real highlight for me was Angle just owning. Although was Justin Credible, the new Angle is gonna be a beast if they just let him go out and wrestle.

bobby the brain kicked butt on that show

Xero 06-13-2006 11:24 PM

Okay, seriously, they are really fucked if this is the product.

For one, I think it goes without saying that the zombies and the vampires are just fucking retarded. Since Heyman or the WWE can't really do much about it, I hope they turn it into an angle. Bring in another "Network" guy and have him say that they HAVE to have this or that on the show. At least that way they can write it off as an angle and not just leave it at "these things are real".

Secondly, was it REALLY necessary to show the ENTIRE Tazz/Lawler match, INCLUDING THE FUCKING ENTRANCES!? They only have one hour, and they show a throw away match in it's entirety?

Thirdly, the striptease shit was just retarded. I mean, I get WHY they did it (it's theorized that men will stop on whatever tits they pass on the boob tube), but the words "Diva's Search" kept going through my mind during the entire segment.

This show, with exception of Heyman's promos and one or two parts here and there, were clearly WWE scripted, and that is bad news for the brand.

On the other hand, was I the only one to catch (I didn't read the thread) that when Sandman cracked open his beer, that there was a young kid like RIGHT below him?

rob11 06-13-2006 11:24 PM

I found this as a good example of what I mean by good wrestling.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xRGyKGt2kOg&search=ecw

I don't expect the insane hardcore stuff they used to do to happen, but I expect at least good wrestling.

Good post. Yeah, I think the Sandman cracking open a beer with a young kid right below him was pretty much one of the main problems. No kids! Kids in the crowd drag an audience down. Especially with ECW. Remember on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD they kept saying how the crowd was such a huge part of the show, and it was. As a 12-13 year old kid when I started watching ECW, I noticed how great the crowd was. I then turn to Raw and thought, wow, this crowd is dead compared to that ECW crowd who got so involved with chants, and literally involved with handing weapons. Well, if you have a crappy crowd, that just pretty much takes the rug out from underneath the event.

i agree whole heartly that wasd flat out LAME!!!!!! as far as tazz beating lawler thatwas pathetic hes supposed to be this big bad suplex machine you gotta jump your opponent from behind in order to win pitiful lawler should have dropped tazz on his head and styles as well. big show and kurt angle are not gonna save ecw. ecw should have stayed dead and buried vince is just throwing good money in the toilet and sooner or later its gonna come back and haunt him.EXTREMELY CRAPPY WRESTLING!!!!!!!! INDEED!!!!

That's another point I meant to make. This was CLEARLY a WWE crowd. THEY WERE BOOING VAN DAM. They seriously need to tape at the advertised house shows instead of doing this at SmackDown!, maybe a sixth of the crowd even knew that ECW existed before 2001.

redoneja 06-13-2006 11:31 PM

Even though the show wasn't the greatest by any standards, what they say about internet smarks has been proven disgustingly true in this thread.

Innovator 06-13-2006 11:33 PM

Give it 2 months, or at least until they do the taping at the ECW Arena

Innovator 06-13-2006 11:34 PM

WE WANT PUNK DAMMIT!

Gertner 06-13-2006 11:35 PM

ugh how can you have justin Credible job like that to Kurt Angle. They really need to tape this show at a completely different location from raw/smackdown. I don't think half the crowd knew who any of these guys were.

And btw is it me or did Danny Doring get fat?

True, alot of the kids, and marks remember ECW as the invaders in 2001. I have seen alot say, ECW sucks and I just want to say, you are only old enough to remember crap Invasion ECW in 2001, not what made it great. Alot of them were toddlers when ECW begun it's rise. Alot of them also didn't even get to watch cause it wasn't on TV or didn't get TNN in the latter years. They also don't like long matches with good wrestling. They would rather see Umaga squash a guy in a 2 minute match(2 minutes is stretching it.) Vince needs to make a decision. Cater to the marks, and have ECW be a 2nd rate show to hype Raw and WWE PPV'S, which will get cancelled very fast, or try to appeal to the old ECW crowd and do things the right way by the ways listed in this thread like the small arenas, good wrestling, and no WWE crap.

The show fucking sucked. I didn't need the internet or any "smark knowledge" to complain about a show sucking back in the day.

Shaggy 06-13-2006 11:40 PM

I hate the fact that both Angle and Show come over from WWE and they are suddenly big superstars for ECW...I would like it better if they had it so that they were sorta adjusting...like Angle would be trying to wrestle someone like Dreamer or Sandman....but instead of them wrestling Angle back they were just beating the shit out of him with weapons...

Dont get me wrong...I love a good wrestling match as much as the next person...weapons arent really my thing...but still...this is like one brand going into another...there should be some adjusting...

and besides...

Angle didnt want to be in ECW back when it was on its own...having him go to it now just looks like crap...if Angle ends up being called the backbone of ECW...I am gonna stop watching it all together...

I definitely agree that Show and Angle should've had an "adjustment" phase. Hell, I wouldn't even have minded them winning, as long as they had to put up a real fight to do it.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Xero Limit 126 again.

I will give you more rep. as soon as it allows me to again.

Anyway, my grade for the first, ECW on SCI-FI show is an F+. The + was for the Zombie and parts of the battle royal, and just Kurt Angle being there which is always is a +.

PullMyFinger 06-13-2006 11:57 PM

Yeah, um, ECW debut sucked. I lost interest real fast.

Cmon Heat!

But see, people won't wait two months. I used to say the same to TNA fans who would say "yeah but wait for____"

Unfortunately, the world is filled with people that have a lack of patience...including myself. I was flat out bored with this ECW...and was nothing as to what I expected.

Horrid show overall.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-14-2006 12:08 AM

Eh. Hopefully it will get better.

I'm looking at this show more as an intro, ala "Hey, these are our wrestlers."

THey seemed more concerned with getting everyone on TV. The show wasn't great, but the booking made sense.

And hell, the first ECW show on TNA was a clip show anyway.

Bricktop 06-14-2006 12:09 AM

Man, I rushed home for this shit? As mentioned countless times before, this show had the stink of wwe writers all over it.

where to start?

First of all the venue is all wrong. The home crowd should not be booing your face champ, except when that home crowd is a bunch of wwe kiddie marks. Brilliant idea there. ECW should only be taped in ECW areas period. Anyone with a third grade education can see that. Apparently Vince can't.

Second Having WWE stars on the show taints any ECW storyline possible. remember when Jerry Lawler first showed up at ECW? It was huge and nearly caused a riot. Now its the norm for John cena and edge show up? Bullshit.

Third. The ECW roster needs to be bigger. 10 guys do not make a brand I'm sorry. I mean add guys like Matt Hardy, bring people up from OV and hire more ECW guys back, because the current roster is way to small.

For god sakes don't let former champs like credible get squashed. How the hell are we supposed to take him serious again if instead of coming out as a former impact player, he comes out as a former member of X-factor, remember them? Neither does half the wrestling fan base.

Unless things change and the ECW brand can govern itself, free of Vince's crappy influence, failure is eminent.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-14-2006 12:19 AM

People, get off Credible being squashed.

Heyman will work it out.

They want to build up Angle as a machine. As an medalist, and as a shooter. They are going to give him the unstoppable treatment for a bit. JC can easily say he didn't know what to expect, and he was expecting WWE Kurt Angle. Instead Kurt started shooting on him, and JC had no amatuer experience. Do some rematches, have JC adapt, learn, and actually start putting up fights against Angle.

Easy equation

Angle=unstoppable because of his different style
Other wrestlers learn and adapt to the style.
Other wrestlers can then compete with Angle.
Other wrestlers look better for it.

Innovator 06-14-2006 12:22 AM

1) I agree with you on the kids thing and that they need to just tape the ECW shows at their "house shows" or whatever.

2) Don't even start that bullshit. Do you think Vince McMahon would put a lot of money into this if he just wanted to sabotage it? Vince is going to have to answer to a lot of stock holders, if this fucking bombs he will have a lot of hell to pay on the business end.
