"This entire concept seems retarded to me. The people doing it don't realize how dumb this is, so I can't really blame them for it. Just pretend it's an alternate reality! Or not Dragonball at all! I'll be glad when this whole thing blows over!" - Akira Toriyama, paraphrased
Did you just make that up, or is that real?
If you're asking me, I was just taking the grin-and-bear-it-with-shifty-eyes tone out of the quote Crippler posted.
"i'm not ready for this"
just destroys the whole basis of dragonball goku has never pussied out of anything, and is the one all their friends depend on to be strong and happy through it all if goku had said that line during the anime... everyone would have just given up, they would have all died, and the anime would have ended. |
I guess the only good part is that this is so far from what dragonball is, that I can't even get offended as a fan.
And I think a live action movie is extremely far from dbz even if they tried to be faithful, as Toriyama's art style is what makes dragonball, dragonball. Anything else just feels like something else entirely. |
He's a generic young American highschool student forced into a situation he's unfamiliar with, a bit of a weirdo that the presumably nerdy audience of equally white young American highschool students can identify with by placing themselves in the shoes of, maybe even living out fantasies of escapism and acceptance by outside sources through him.
They decided to name him Goku for some reason |
Honestly, they could have kept goku's personality intact.
They could have done alot of things, up to and including not making this movie.
True and true. Rather not voice my thoughts on the matter, arguement's getting old.
This movie will suck hands down
Well at least her hair has a little blue in it.
I have a feeling this one is going to go right next to the Van Damme Street Fighter and Batman & Robin in my collection of wonderfully awful movies. |
I really dig her design, she could head her own feature if it wasn't Dragonball related. I'm thinking cyber-punk heroine with a taste for guns and gadgetry who leads a resistance faction against a fascist government. I'd call it, "Digital".
I cannot see that faggot yelling "Kamehameha!" and me buying it.
You can hear him saying it in the trailer and I think he sells it. In the Jap track it's a squeeky voice doing it so there's one improvement right there. I got used to Goku sounding like a school girl at times but let's just say I didn't mind the FUNimation tracks.

Yamcha's perfect. |
Sweet merciful christ that looks awful.

Amateur reviews are in. The general consensus is the movie is 'surprisingly watchable'. And these are fans, pretty sure 'professional critics' will tear it apart. Everybody says it's too short.
and I cant see them
Won't give a proper review until everybody seen it but I will say Goku is definitely a Sayijin.
How was James Marsters?
Cause thats all I care about.

Review Soon

I haven't got the chance to see this yet but I here Marsters and Chow were the only ones that made you feel they were the characters. I also remember Marsters saying he actually watchs the original Dragon Ball when he can.
Which is too bad because he doesn't get the screen time to really nail down his Piccolo. The last 10min should have been the whole movie's tone. It was the only time the movie got... grand. I'm not talking about the fight scenes either. The first hour and the last ten minutes are two different movies.
I admit it, I loved this movie.
Mainly because as a fan of the show since my late elementary school days, I was expecting a horrible, horrible abomination somewhere on the level of the Super Mario Brothers movie. I did not get that. I got a Dragonball film that is indeed surprisingly watchable, and while it won't win any major awards (nor should it), it wasn't the train wreck I imagined it would be. I only found a few things to nitpick that I remember, one of the big ones being that Piccolo can do a Kamehameha for some reason. That, and the fact that Yamcha never fought at all, to my recollection. Maybe a few things here or there bugged me, but not enough for me to personally send this movie to hell. |
Piccolo did one? When?
And yeah, no Wolf Fang Fist action. |
I may consider going to see this

I just saw this today and it's watchable. I came in with a "so bad, it's good" mentality and I left alright with the finished product. I still feel like Fox did this like they did with the original Fantastic Four movie when they first bought them. Just make a shitty movie with a quality franchise name and it will sell regardless.
Anyways, the movie. What worked: It moves nonstop, hardly a boring moment. You can follow the characters and care for them abit. The actors do their job, particularly Roshi and Goku, as they were the closest to the characters. It has its funny moments and if you forget it's a variation on the Dragonball story and watch it as just a wacky action movie, you'll be fine. What doesn't work: Where to begin? The writing, the timing and pacing (too short and way too fast). Yamcha... yeaaa, Piccolo not enough build-up. Sometimes it looked cheap and had some awkward moments and I just didn't get the whole epic feel the series gives. Hopefully, if there is a sequel, it will all be fixed up and we get a true DB movie. 5/10 |
They already wrote the sequel.
