The Destroyer 05-11-2009 11:05 AM

Fantastic movie. Great casting and beautiful visually - nicely done reboot to basically allow them to do whatever they like in future films.

Wonderful how they still managed to get some product placement into it despite being set in the 23rd Century though. :-\

Well they are. Bashing a reboot because it has a lot of action and young people. Come on.

Dude. It's the Onion. Seriously.

RoXer 05-12-2009 12:52 AM

Don't ruin it!

D Mac 05-12-2009 02:43 AM

k

RoXer 05-12-2009 02:55 AM

...

I still think DMac is lost.

RoXer 05-12-2009 02:56 AM

Diesel Mac, what upsets you MOST about that video?

D Mac 05-12-2009 05:52 AM

I didn't watch all of it. I'll do it tomorrow.

YOUR Hero 05-15-2009 10:25 AM

Saw this a few days ago now. 'twas great. Personally I loved the Beastie Boys thing as well asd the swollen hands thing. If you sayyou didn't, you're just being overly critical for the sake of being critical.

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-15-2009 02:55 PM

Karl Urban was the fookin' chief as Bones.

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-15-2009 03:00 PM

I think they could possible base a new series on the events that happen to Romulus, in the movie, and its effects on the alpha quadrant. [/geek]

Not really. I loved the movie. Is it possible to disagree?

Adder 05-15-2009 03:23 PM

Was a really good show. Loved the relaunch.

D Mac 05-15-2009 03:30 PM

I assume Klingons will be in the next one.

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-15-2009 03:35 PM

Damn it, Jim!

I think that's a pretty safe bet. JJ Abrams can continue to do some really awesome stuff that hasn't been done yet, like ground battles.

LoDownM 05-15-2009 04:38 PM

They did alot of ground fights in DS9. Nothing epic sized or anything like that, but there was a few.

Fucking A

I marked out so many times just tonight watching it. Like when Sulu mentioned he'd done fencing I immediately remembered the Naked Time episode where he was galavanting around the ship and pricked his finger on the sword:'(

Anyway yeah, awesome stuff, I'll probably see it again with the family on wednesday:wave:

Was awesome. Still not even a little interested in Star Trek though.

Seriously, just go read another article on the Onion (any other article), and you'll be all set.

D Mac 05-16-2009 10:05 PM

I don't follow.

RoXer 05-16-2009 10:51 PM

I almost want to archieve this thread but I think DMac is pulling our leg.

D Mac 05-16-2009 10:59 PM

shhhhhhh

D Mac 05-16-2009 11:01 PM

A fake reaction to a fake story. :D

Supreme Olajuwon 05-17-2009 02:34 AM

I know nothing about Star Trek other than it's reference in pop culture, but I went to see this anyway because the trailers all look great. I thought the movie was excellent. Great writing and great casting. I thought Chris Pine was your typical meat head pretty boy actor but I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong.

Did anyone else find the added light glare to be a bit over the top? It was a neat effect and made the film seem less green screeny but I think they went too far with it.

Downunder 05-17-2009 03:46 AM

I just saw it - bloody loved it

I don't know who most of the actors were but I thought the casting was spot on. The bloke who played Dr McCoy nailed it - although I thought Checkov was a bit over the top.

Still a great bloody movie.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-18-2009 06:28 AM

It's so refreshing to have a group of people that actually know what goes into making a good action movie and not just blowing stuff up Michael Bay style. There actually has to be good writing.

"You know, traveling through time, changing history... that's cheating." That's brilliant.

I don't know of the McCoy from the other films or series, but I would have to say I enjoyed his scenes the most, apart from the big action scenes.

He's Karl Urban aka Eomer in LOTR, the horseman who is banished from Rohan.

ct2k 05-18-2009 06:39 AM

Yeah I just noticed the other day that he was in LOTR, knew I'd recognised him from somewhere.

Also if you watch the original Trek series and the 4th movie in particular you'll realise Chekhov actually really wasn't overdone

NUCLEAR WESSELS

Downunder 05-18-2009 06:40 AM

"Are you out of your Vulcan mind" just floored me.

Some seriously funny dialogue if you have seen the original series

Jon Kano 05-18-2009 06:43 AM

My father told me he was funny in the series too.

I also loved the 'test' scene, where Kirk was just eating the apple and not giving a shit.

ct2k 05-18-2009 07:21 AM

Yeah that was one of the biggest nods to the original film series for sure, I think they way they've done the reboot whilst preserving what went before was really well done. Woulda been very easy for Abrams to simply say 'fuck it' and just start from scratch with no attempt at making the new film compatible with what went before.
