Johan will be making his first ST start sometime this week. The plan was to get him 4 ST starts and then have him go Opening Day. Not sure that's realistic at this point. More likely scenario is Jon Niese starts Opening Day with the Mets carrying an extra bullpen guy and Johan on the DL. A Johan DL stint can be backdated in a way that he'll only miss one turn through the rotation.

The Mets will only go as far as their pitching takes them this year, so hopefully Johan can get 30 starts in.

Evil Vito 03-08-2013 08:49 AM

Sick Japan/Chinese Taipei game. Seems so weird how that pool is already into round 2 while round 1 is just starting elsewhere.

Like 300 people at the Canada/Italy. Wadding is one of them and I've seen him like twice so far.

I'm going later tonight and for the rest of the games this weekend but I doubt I'll be on TV.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-08-2013 02:56 PM

where is Wadding sitting

RoXer 03-08-2013 04:25 PM

He says he moved to left field bleachers. Saw him there too.

Triple Naitch 03-08-2013 05:02 PM

Kinda hilarious how after every big play, team Italy does the "bravissimo" hand gesture.

Triple Naitch 03-08-2013 05:31 PM

Wow, Italy just beat the shit out of Canada.

Evil Vito 03-08-2013 05:32 PM

Holy shit, Italy. Looks like they're going to be what the Netherlands were in 2009.

LOL

That is terrible

Keith 03-08-2013 06:35 PM

LOL the player didn't even sell it, he was getting ready to go to 1st base. That was all on the umpire.

posted the wrong one I guess

Droford 03-08-2013 10:16 PM

Mexico iz stealing our gamez

Keith 03-08-2013 11:02 PM

We're losing to Mexico.

WTF is this fucking shit?

RoXer 03-09-2013 12:57 AM

If Mexico wins tomorrow they're pretty much in. US will need Canada to win to stand a chance to advance. Meanwhile Italy wants to go 3-0 most likely.

This is ridiculous.

RoXer 03-09-2013 12:58 AM

Crowd was very pro Mexican. Was hard to get people cheering for USA. Part lethargy part nothing to cheer about part getting drowned out by Mexicans. Might be easier to make some noise tomorrow.

RoXer 03-09-2013 02:16 AM

Pretty funny, before the game Romo was on his way to the bullpen from the dugout. Everyone booed him. From pissed off Mexican fans to supportive USA fans booing good players to local D-Backs fans booing a rival Giants member. A very audible "Hey Romo, you suck!" was yelled to which he turned back, smiled, and tipped his cap. Makes me like him even more.

Keith 03-09-2013 08:26 AM

The Mexican team seemed to be hungrier than the US.

Now, even if we beat Italy, if Mexico wins, they're in.

Fuck.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-09-2013 08:59 AM

It is my understanding that if the US wallops Italy and destroys Canada and Mexico only beats Canada by a little bit, then the US advances based on the tie breaker which is run differential.

Maybe I'm wrong. It has happened before.

Evil Vito 03-09-2013 09:35 AM

Yeah, I believe the US will need run differential. The announcers were discussing the ending to yesterday's Italy game was somewhat controversial because as soon as they scored their 10th run to invoke the mercy rule, the other run that followed didn't count. Now in Italy's case a lot would have to go the wrong way for them not to advance anyway, but in theory the mercy rule could screw somebody over. It's not likely - but it could happen.

Evil Vito 03-09-2013 09:39 AM

I can't help but feel bad for Dickey. I had read his book and he wrote a whole section about his run in the 1996 Olympics and how disappointed he was that Team USA didn't win gold that year. So to see him basically get lit up last night as the ace of Team USA was disappointing. The dude looked genuinely upset in the dugout.

It probably should have been expected though. Dickey was horrendous in all 3 springs with the Mets. His knuckler doesn't really get going until his last ST start.

Evil Vito 03-09-2013 09:42 AM

Also I had forgotten Karim Garcia existed.

RoXer 03-09-2013 10:56 AM

The first tie breaker is head to head record. Then it's run differential.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-09-2013 12:47 PM

Ya but the US has to beat Italy for this to matter and Italy already beat Mexico so it'd be a three way tie and you'd have to do run differential.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-09-2013 12:49 PM

Or maybe the Fighting Joey Vottos will be all like screw you guys and beat the poop out of the US and Mexico.

I suppose I should start getting ready to go see that.

This (Mexico vs. Canada) is honestly the most important game of the pool for all 4 teams so I hope there will be a lot of support from Mexico like last night. I'm hoping for like 20,000 people but I get the feeling there won't even be 5,000.

YOUR Hero 03-09-2013 02:35 PM

thats racists!

RoXer 03-09-2013 02:50 PM

Good start for the U.S.

RoXer 03-09-2013 02:51 PM

Oh yeah and I guess Canada too

Unless Joey Votto can go out and pitch like Justin Verlander, it's not happening.

Triple Naitch 03-09-2013 06:11 PM

Shit's going down between Canada and Mexico.

Bad News Gertner 03-09-2013 06:50 PM

Don't fuck with Canada

Triple Naitch 03-09-2013 06:51 PM

Of course, Alfredo Aceves is in the middle of it.

RoXer 03-09-2013 07:03 PM

What happened? I left in the 8th.
