Why are you shocked at this? He clearly wasn't happy playing in Boston, let alone for an A.L. team...I think the Red Sox had heaped too much in the way of lofty expectations on Smoltz (a local guy from my hometown, btw), and now he's back in the N.L. and playing with the St. Louis Cardinals, where I believe he will flourish in his late career. I mean you mentioned the 9 K's in 5 innings, but that doesn't even include sitting down 7 in a row to set a Cardinals record for most consecutive K's. I believe he will prove to all the doubters out there that he can still be DAMNED GOOD in any pitching situation, whether starting, short, middle, or long relief, as an 8th inning-er, or as a closer. But I suppose we will all find out in the final month or so.

DAMN iNATOR 08-24-2009 06:19 AM

Oh, also mad frustrated that no matter what, the damned Tigers can't seem to get any more of a lead than 2.5 Games with 39 games left for them to play...they really should be at least 4 or 5 ahead right now, IMO. They just haven't had any offensive production lately, and plus it will be an immense help to Leyland to have Zumaya back whenever that happens as it will give him 12 and not 11, pitchers to work with.

Just watch highlights or something. Ball hit down the line, looks like a double, manny chasing it, doesn't get it, runs into the wall, while ball deflects off to center field... he thinks Kemp is gonna run to get it, but Kemp doesn't do that. So Manny hangs out for a couple seconds, then when he sees Kemp isn't going for it, he runs and throws into third, and the guy has a triple.

Any other fielder would honestly had cut that ball off for a single....

Then he had one more fuck up , don't remember.

Jeff Francoeur has a tear in his thumb...and now out of the blue Johan Santana is missing his scheduled start tomorrow to have an appointment with Dr. David Altcheck about his pitching elbow.

This is just unfuckingreal.

Boomer 08-24-2009 05:58 PM

Frenchy has been our inside spy all along, so the plan is going along swimmingly.

But a lot of Braves fans just wanted him dead.

20 years ago today, Commissioner Bart Giamatti gave Pete Rose a lifetime ban from the game of baseball.

Just Pete being Pete

Skippord 08-24-2009 09:32 PM

Jesus Christ Manny should not be a fielder

McLegend 08-25-2009 12:27 AM

It's comical how good Cliff Lee is in the NL.

Manny with the laser throw to the cutoff man, who was standing like 10 feet away, is my all-time favorite

Innovator 08-25-2009 11:05 AM

Going to the game tonight, sitting with the creatures in 203

Splaya 08-25-2009 01:58 PM

YEAHHHHHHH TIGERS BEAT THEM ANGELS 10-7.

I won't tell you guys how much of lead the Tigers had, or how I was sweating the 8th inning real bad though :shifty:

SammyG 08-25-2009 03:12 PM

I swear to fucking God if the Rockies go on a tear and win the NL West, I am gonna be pissed.

Loose Cannon 08-25-2009 03:13 PM

Derek Jeter MVP

SammyG 08-25-2009 03:22 PM

lol @ Billy Wagner flip flopping and now joining the Red Sox

ClockShot 08-25-2009 03:41 PM

So many games does it take before Wagner and Papelbon start throwing punches in the bullpen?

Hey, would you let the bullpen know I'll be paying them a visit in a couple weeks?

Appreciate it.

Innovator 08-25-2009 03:44 PM

Got it, got row 5, prime home run territory

SammyG 08-25-2009 04:27 PM

I thought he cut off Damon's throw lol

I like the one where he goes to slide for the ball but his cleat got caught in turf, causing him to do a front flip.

Hanso Amore 08-25-2009 06:10 PM

Nothing beats Manny Rolling around on top of the ball.

Evil Vito 08-25-2009 06:23 PM

So Santana is out for the year, and ESPN is coming out that his elbow was an issue even back in 2007 and that was the reason that the Yankees and Red Sox balked at the trade.

However, it sounds like a fairly minor surgery, and he should be ready to go for Spring Training.

Boomer 08-25-2009 06:26 PM

I'd still be worried though. Any arm trouble is bad news.

The Gold Standard 08-25-2009 09:39 PM

How is Joba 8-3 with a 3.98 era? I am a Yankees fan and I am dumbfounded.

oh yea, you're right, my bad. I always have it reversed. haha, that was tremendous though

YOUR Hero 08-25-2009 10:33 PM

Manny should just be a DH. -or is he 'against' that?

McLegend 08-25-2009 11:11 PM

Alright if you blow a game in August against the pirates I think it's safe to say you are done.

McLegend 08-25-2009 11:14 PM

Damn Brad Lidge.

Loose Cannon 08-26-2009 01:33 AM

just heard JJ Putz and Sheff just went on the DL today. lol. come on now

Evil Vito 08-26-2009 01:51 AM

Yep, Putz was slated to pitch in a Class-A rehab game tonight...then he was scratched from it out of the blue and is now out for the season. I feel like the Mets are just giving up on rehabbing their players, not that I blame them...but fuck.

David Wright is expected to be back in September...and Beltran is hoping to get some games in before the end, but other than that...nada. The 2009 Mets will really live in infamy I think. Has there ever been a team that has lost their FIVE best players to the DL at the same time (three of them for several months)? The baseball Gods really wanted to make sure the Mets did nothing this year.

And to Boomer - while I'm a little concerned, I am slightly optimistic about Johan because it sounds like and injury he's been pitching through it for a while now...they just figure there is no point in making him push it when they are out of contention. If the Mets were healthy and in the race he'd probably still be in the rotation, ready to put off surgery until after the end of the year, like he did last year.

SammyG 08-26-2009 03:37 AM

I fucking hate the fucking Rockies

Skippord 08-26-2009 03:47 AM
