A fan of 10 plus years of MMA would not give two shits about production value. A new fan might.

What?

so MMA changes your personal preferences?

Reavant 07-21-2008 05:04 PM

if you can see the two fighters, and the cameras stay on them from a reasonable distance, then how does the production kill the fight? IT DOESNT!!!

BAD FIGHTS KILL THE PRODUCTION! not the other way around. Good fights can save a shitty production.

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 05:25 PM

I agree with that also..

You guys are taking this way too seriously..

IMO UFC is better than all other promotions.. Sure that is a biased opinion but I've admitted that numerous times..

Why do you guys care??

lol

Stickman 07-21-2008 05:42 PM

Yes, UFC is hands down better than any other promotion.

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 05:45 PM

That's all I said.. Well, that and I questioned why someone would spend money on another promotion, than to just watch UFC for free and then the other promotion for free later on..

Go back and read what I'm being attacked for..

Ridiculous..

UFC Fight Night 14 salaries: Silva and Vera net $200,000 each

Jul 21, 2008

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva earned $200,000 for his first-round TKO victory over James Irvin in the light-heavyweight, non-title main event of this past Saturday's UFC Fight Night 14 event. Co-main event winner Brandon Vera netted the same for his victory over UFC newcomer Reese Andy.

Salaries from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The event took place at The Palms Las Vegas and aired live on Spike TV.

Total disclosed payroll for the event was $623,000.

The full results included:

Anderson Silva: $200,000 (no win bonus issued)
def. James Irvin: $20,000

Brandon Vera: $200,000 (includes $100,000 win bonus)
def. Reese Andy $15,000

Frankie Edgar: $26,000 ($13,000 win bonus)
def. Hermes Franca : $17,000

Cain Velasquez: $14,000 ($7,000 win bonus)
defeats Jake O'Brien: $11,000

Kevin Burns: $10,000 ($5,000 win bonus)
def. Anthony Johnson: $9,000

CB Dollaway: $20,000 ($10,000 win bonus)
defeats Jesse Taylor: $8,000

Tim Credeur: $16,000 ($8,000 win bonus)
def. Cale Yarbrough: $8,000

Rory Markham: $12,000 ($6,000 win bonus)
defeats Brodie Farber: $3,00O

Nate Loughran: $8,000 ($4,000 win bonus)
defeats Johnny Rees: $4,000

Brad Blackburn: $10,000 ($5000 win bonus)
defeats James Gaboo: $3,000

Shannon Gugerty: $6,000 ($3,000 win bonus)
defeats Dale Hartt: $3,000

Now, the usual disclaimer: the figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker-room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

Ridiculous..

You never said that though, you suggested that UFN was a better watching option than Affliction. Order of viewing and reasoning was never your point, you are just twisting this to make it seem like you are being hard done by.

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 06:00 PM

That is bullshit, dude..

I said:

I know they have a great card but why spend money on it, when Anderson Silva, one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, is fighting for free..

Then went on to agree with Rob that it was a subpar event..

As I said earlier today, why don't you quote me saying these things cause maybe you'll go back and read the whole argument and see what a dick you look like..

Stickman 07-21-2008 06:17 PM

I didn't watch either but if I had to choose I would've gone with Affliction. The card looked so much better. Why would I watch guys who lost on TUF?

Fabien Barthez 07-21-2008 06:19 PM

And that suggests you think Anderson for free is better than the whole Affliction card, not that you are going to download it later.

I don't quote because I don't want to. Simple.

What about Andrei, The Shell Arlovski? I guess that was just you stating that he was terrible at Affliction? Dick's in the mirror.

Reavant 07-21-2008 07:10 PM

well he was saying that andrei WAS a shell. a lot of people thought that but he came in this weekend and showed that he was not. even if he was however, the fight would have been entertaining because rothwell would have been onm the offensive. He said after i posted the fight that he is "back"

Reavant 07-21-2008 07:11 PM

the only problem i had with all this is when krispy basically said the fights were bad cuz the production was poor which just makes no sense to me.

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 07:14 PM

Didn't say that at all..

Just saying that no promotion compares to UFC on value and shitty production can ruin a card IMO..

We go outside, thinking we had 15 minutes, to smoke one.. We come back inside within 10 minutes and the fights had restarted.. The very first fight of the card was on.. Us being drunk and high were like WTF because there is no way it was that fast with the ring entrance, introductions, and the fight itself etc.. The show proceeded to run from the beggining for one hour and then went off the air.. Never saw Kimbo or Thompson, nothing..

Also, I work on tv so yeah..

Production quality is pretty big to me, ecspecially if I'm paying money..

Buy hey, whatever floats your boat..

Same way bad production can kill a potentially good movie..

you pretty much said that exactly except it was even more broad to include every other organization

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 09:09 PM

Are they not drug testing you for your fight, cause you are obviously high or something..

I never said the fights were bad..

I said that poor production quality can lead me, as a fan, to not enjoy the fights as much as I could.. I've had that happen with just about every company outside of Pride and UFC/WEC..

You guys keep putting words in my mouth..

Kris P Lettus 07-21-2008 09:11 PM

Also, it's not that big of a deal to me.. There will be alot of other promotions pop up and try to put on shows that I won't pay money for, specially if there's a top fighter on a free card, being put on by the best MMA company in the world, that same night..

Settle down..

Fabien Barthez 07-21-2008 11:46 PM

UFN hardly represents the quality of the best MMA company in the world. And I am stating that as fact and not just my opinion, because it is one.

If you base the MMA you watch on the in-fight camera transitions and positions, and the length of the pre-fight promo video, then great. There are idiots everywhere...

Kris P Lettus 07-22-2008 01:04 PM

Yeah, cause that is exactly what I said..

It's bullshit that he lost that fight but there is really nothing he can do. The rules state that a ref cannot use replay to over turn a decision. The decision the ref made in the octagon was that Johnson lost by TKO. Its something the need to look into in the future but alas Rumble will just have to settle for the loss and hope the UFC gives him a rematch. This time hopefully Rumble doesn't gas halfway through the second round and start losing the stand up battle.

So what do you guys think of Hellboy winning the DREAM Lightweight GP as an alternate?

Well apprently no one cares about this subject but I know I think hit's a little tainted that he is the DREAM Lightweight Champion. Sure his win over Aoki was impressive, I've never seen someone fold like that from one shot of ground and pound. However, Hansen's victory over Gill (who isn't even a Top 20 Lightweight) and a win over Aoki doesn't seem like it should get him the GP title. However, he is so I think it only fair that they either give Aoki a re-match or what I suggest is that Eddie Alverez gets a shot at Hansen's title. Alverez already beat Hansen earlier on in the tournament and never was eliminated from it so I figure he should get the next shot.

I became an instant fan of Alvarez once he said "I could have fought with one eye against Aoki its not like I have to worry about him punching me or anything." I'm a fan of Aoki but that statement is so true Aoki seems deathly afarid of standing and I've never seen a guy pull guard as much as Aoki.

Haven't watched any on the DREAM shit yet..

As much as I like Arlovski and think he does deserve a shot at Fedor I think Barnett should have gotten the shot over him since Barnett has been waiting to fight Fedor since forever. But I'm sure they selected Andrei because he has more name recognition in the United States.

Affliction was great I just still hate MMA in rings too many re-starts occur when people are tangled in the ropes makes for a choppy fight. Affliction's larger ring did help to stop that.

Juan 07-24-2008 02:55 AM

If all goes well, I'll be scoring tickets to the upcoming EliteXC show. Lawler vs Smith II is gonna be sick IMO

Fabien Barthez 07-24-2008 07:34 AM

I thought Couture was free to fight where he likes from October?

Either way, I was hopeful for Tim. Didn't do me any favours. Fedor is obviously a fucking beast, but Andrei was awesome as well. Rothwell is a tough bastard... I think if you watch that fight again, you will see Arlovski is just trying to work a bit in the second round. Draw it out and work his defence in a fight. He had total control in my eyes from bell to bell. I like a guy with striking like Arlovski's, and hopefully his hunger in a fight against Fedor.

Will it be Sylvia/Barnett maybe as well? How about Linland/Belfort? You have got to think Tito is going to play some part, if he read the payout figures this week...

I like what's going on with Affliction. It is already bigger than pretty much any other rival organisation, after only 1 show.

i was thinking about that, and I dont know how I would simulate him. Hes so fast and can move so well that its almost impossible to recreate.

Reavant 07-24-2008 10:41 AM

I think that the next affliction cart should be:

Fedor v Cotour
Arlovski v Barnet
Babalu v Tito
Vitor v lindland
Aleksaner E v Sylvia/Rothwell
Rizzo v Sylvia/Rothwell

Reavant 07-24-2008 10:43 AM

theres just been so much shit about this fight with randy, that it just needs to fucking happen. let the old man get his ass kicked.

The UFC and Spike TV are close to finalizing a deal that would put October's UFC 89 event on free basic cable -- a week before the recently announced UFC 90 event that will likely air on pay per view.

However, when reached for comment today, Spike TV Vice President of Communications David Schwarz had no comment.

UFC 89 takes place Oct. 18 at The NIA in Birmingham, England. The main event features "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner and popular British fighter Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben. Also slated to compete are Lyoto Machida, Thiago Silva, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Shane Carwin and Marcus Davis.

However, a major addition to the card has been discussed.

After this past weekend's UFC Fight Night 14 event in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White said that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who defeated James Irvin in the event's headline bout, will likely next fight Patrick Cote. (Yushin Okami had been next in line for the title shot, but he recently suffered a broken hand while training.)

White said that if Silva fights in September at UFC 88, that it would likely be against Cote.

However, one source close to the fighter tells MMAjunkie.com that Silva, largely considered the world's top pound-for-pound fighter, could instead be added to the UFC 89 fight card in Birmingham to bolster the nationally televised line-up. (And UFC 88 would instead feature its originally scheduled pay-per-view main event of Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans.)

Before the deal is finalized for UFC 89, Spike TV and the UFC first need to agree to a fee for the broadcast. The addition of a marketable star such as Silva, whose fight with Irvin peaked with a hefty 3.8 million viewers this past Saturday, would surely make the event more attractive to Spike TV and potential advertisers.

If Silva is moved to UFC 89, it's not known if Cote would still be his opponent.

Again, though, the possible UFC 89 title fight is far from finalized and has merely been discussed as a possibility.
Silva/Cote will be blah, but Alves/Machida and Bisping/Leban will be awesome..
