In fairness to the movie, it is based on a book. It is my understanding that the movie is pretty faithful to the book, so any complaint with how anticlimactic the ending is may be the fault of the book.

I don't really mind the end. When you say the last 20 minutes, are you talking about every single part of it, or what? There was only one part that I didn't really get at first, which was
SPOILER: show
why James Brolin was just dead all of the sudden. I read something online about how we are supposed to see the whole thing from Tommy Lee Jones' point of view, because in a way this is his story, so getting there too late fits that. I'm still not even convinced that's correct, but I think it's close because in a way Tommy Lee Jones is the most important character.

When I say the last twenty minutes I mean (hightlight to read) wnen Josh Broslin dies. He dies all of a sudden and then the movie just.....I don't know what happens. We just see him perfectly fine and then in the next scene we see a bad image of him dead on the floor. Then the movie starts talking about I have no idea what. Its a bunch of mumbo jumbo that didn't make alot fo sense to me. Thats why I didnt like it. Couldnt follow it.

But anyway....

American Buffalo 2/10.

Great acting and dialogue, but it was just flat out boring. Got to admit that.

I see you give decent movies 4's and 5's, but you give Sin City 8.5? I hate you

PorkSoda 03-24-2009 12:13 AM

Too high or too low for Sin City?

IC Champion 03-24-2009 12:18 AM

Too high, IMO

thedamndest 03-24-2009 12:28 AM

Instant Classic would have rated it 8.2.

IC Champion 03-24-2009 12:45 AM

LOL, More like a 7.

And are you questioning my rating system?

Destor 03-24-2009 01:01 AM

decimals are weak on a 1-10 system. you can't possibly work that out. even .5's are weak on 1-10. .5's on 1-5 are ok though.

Destor 03-24-2009 01:02 AM

I mean, what the diff between 8.4 and 8.5?

I Love You, Man

7/10

Pretty funny movie. I cracked up through the whole thing. Debated on giving it an 8, but it wasn't the best comedy I've ever seen, and comedies tend to rank lower than other movies I see anyways so a 7 is still high on that scale.

IC Champion 03-24-2009 05:28 PM

Cool Hand Luke - 8/10. I love Paul Newman.

Destor 03-24-2009 05:32 PM

cool hand luke is an easy 10/10

thedamndest 03-24-2009 05:35 PM

Nah, 9.8 tops.

I'd give Newman's performance a 10/10, easy.

thedamndest 03-24-2009 05:57 PM

I would give his ranch dressing a 10/10 as well.

Gonzo 03-24-2009 08:50 PM

Role Models 8/10

Pretty rofl. I like Paul Rudd, and Elizabeth Banks is nice to look at too.

thedamndest 03-25-2009 01:38 PM

Quantum of Solace - 7/10 - I liked it better than Casino, and I think between the two films Craig is a better Bond than Brosnan. It's unfair to say that though, because he's had two great movies to make and Brosnan just had Goldeneye and then a string of ridiculous ones. One question I will ask: is Bond ever going to get some gadgets, or are we going to have to watch a shaky "realistic" foot chase in ever film?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 5/10 -
SPOILER: show
Visually it was impressive. Storywise it was good up until about the first hour or so. Then the gimmick wears off and it just becomes a love story (and personally, I don't really even think Benjamin and the red headed girl had any strong reason to fall in love in the first place). The whole thing is pretty predictable at that point, and really I do mean the whole thing.

just saw it myself, would give it the same rating too.

The Rocker 7/10

Rainn Wilson from The Office plays the main character. I like his brand of comedy and mannerisms, which made the movie for me. Nothing groundbreaking but definitely entertaining. Worth a rental at least.

PorkSoda 03-26-2009 01:19 AM

Death Sentence - 6/10.

I like how Kevin Bacon was just a regular guy out for revenge and not like a vietnam vet (Rambo) or a guy with-special-skills-that-make-cause-people-to-have-nightmares (Liam Neeson). He had no special training and he did what he did.

40 Year Old Virgin - 4/10.

thedamndest 03-26-2009 12:51 PM

Pineapple Express - 7

Taken - 6.5

RoXer 03-26-2009 01:36 PM

Revolutionary Road - 8/10

REAL FUCKED UP

Gonzo 03-27-2009 10:13 AM

Lakeview Terrace 6/10 — The one where Samuel L. Jackson plays the insane cop neighbor.

Just Add Water 6/10 — Mildly amusing.

Righteous Kill 7/10 — I was dosing in and out watching this but it seemed alright.

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2009 10:38 AM

Dragonball Evolution - 6/10

If the whole movie was like the 3rd act it would have been epic.

I Love You Man 7.5/10

Monsters v Aliens 7/10

I watched Casino Royale about thirty minutes ago for the second time and I think that Daniel Craig sucks. He has no charisma, no aspiration to have any Bond-like characteristics, just merely a bland guy who is well toned to fit the role of playing the main character in another ostentatious action film, which seem to be the in thing in the latter half of this decade. Brosnan was a different kind of Bond, but he was charming and fit the role convincingly. He is personally my second favorite Bond.

Casino Royale 6/10
