Rockstar confirms GTA Online has a microtransaction system along with a few other details for the mode.

Quote:

According to the post, Grand Theft Auto Online will support up to 16 players in a single game, and will allow players to customize their characters and cars. Reputation and cash flow will play a huge part in GTA Online as well. Reputation is gained by online activity, and will contribute to ranking up, opening up new features, weapons, and criminal contacts. Cash is obtained through various activities, ranging from heisting armored cars to winning street races. And if players want, they can purchase GTA$ with real-world money through an in-game story.

“The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash,” reads the post. “There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker. The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.”

Rockstar also highlighted four multiplayer modes/activities they’re working on for the first few weeks of GTA Online. The Content Creator allows users to create their own Deathmatches and races, while the Beach Bum pack will introduce “new amazing beach fun vehicles” and over 300 pieces of leisure wear and two “new but not remotely relaxing weapons.” Additional modes being worked on include Capture the Flag and full-on cooperative heists.

Yay options!

And they even have one to let you skip if you suck too much. So everyone wins.

GTA:SA was good where it would let you skip a boring part if you fail.

I felt so much happier when I beat GTA:VC's final mission with no check points than I do now when I beat current gen games

What Fignuts said. You didn't spend a fifteen minute drive to get to the action in NES games. Even RPGs were more straightforward than that.

Good luck with that. This game is quite capricious and still has more than a few boring missions.

Nothing quite like getting ten minutes into the replay of a mission and then being DQed from the gold due to a random headshot.

Fignuts 09-25-2013 09:40 PM

Plenty of NES games had checkpoints, and when those checkpoints were fucked up or unfair, no one was like "Wow what a great challenge".

If you dont believe me, go and find someone who enjoyed losing to the final boss in ninja gaiden, and going all the way back to the start of 6 god damn fucking 1.

GTA V's checkpoints arent gamebreaking by any means. You often have to repeat fairly large sections of the missions. Given that combat is tougher, and that once body armor goes, you can only take a few hits if not a OSK, checkpoints are very welcome.

I... just got my ass kicked by a crossdresser...

Disturbed316 09-26-2013 03:52 AM

How are people taking "selfie" pictures? Can't seem to find the option anywhere

Requiem 09-26-2013 03:59 AM

Click R3 when in the camera.

Disturbed316 09-26-2013 04:09 AM

So simple, surprised I haven't tried that sooner.

Kalyx triaD 09-26-2013 07:42 AM

It... kinda sorta tells you.

It's one of the listed options at the bottom of the screen, yes.

Is everyone missing the part where I said GTA:SA had it perfect when you could skip the boring parts?

Jeez, AirEmu flights must be getting boycotted at the airport. Need to blow up some planes to manipulate some stocks and they just aren't showing up.

I don't remember GTA for the NES. Since the NES comment was the bit I was addressing, I assume it must have been to make the GTA:SA bit relevant.

Fignuts then goes on to talk about checkpoints on the NES and how they related. I'm not sure who you think is "missing" this.

Savio 09-26-2013 01:07 PM

With GTA:SA you wouldn't have to spend 15 minutes driving to the location because they had the skip option.

Which is appropriate, because it was an NES game.

Fignuts 09-26-2013 05:34 PM

I've noticed there are a lot more ladders and stairs, and accesses to roofs and higher vantage points than in other games. That verticality will add a lot to combat in GTAO, I think.

Heisenberg 09-26-2013 07:00 PM

You get one star for shooting Chop's poop

Kane Knight 09-26-2013 08:16 PM

Hate Triathlons. 15 minutes of pressing "A" and I'm not even done with the bike portion. Fuuuuck. I think I have Carpal Tunnel.

Honesty at last. How refreshing.

Don't you get a one-star for shooting, period? Like, I know you don't get a star every time you do something (witness-dependent), but I thought just firing your gun in the air got you a star.

Blitz 09-26-2013 08:23 PM

Prolly not gonna be around when online launches. Moving on Saturday and I have a feeling my internet won't be hooked up in time :(

RoXer 09-26-2013 08:26 PM

I figured Franklin's neighbors called the cops. They can throw pool parties til dawn but a man can't shoot poop?

Savio 09-26-2013 08:54 PM

My neighbors hasn't been back since the shoot out with the police.

They were game-breaking (changing) when it debuted in GTA IV.

jcmoorehead 09-27-2013 10:04 AM

Going to make this quick because I'm incredibly jet lagged at the moment but I had the opportunity this week to visit New York to hang with several other GTA site webmasters to check out GTA Online and it is looking fantastic so far. Will come up with more when I've written up my full report but so far it's pretty impressive, if you have any questions fire away they've allowed us to talk about pretty much everything we saw this time around.

Heisenberg 09-27-2013 10:45 AM

I don't know if you played Fable 2/3, but their online had orbs/ppl that we could hear if they had a headset on, are we going to have to hear ppl around us all the time like that? It'd be sweet for the initial experience, but I could see myself turning that option off.

jcmoorehead 09-27-2013 11:09 AM

I can't confirm that one way or another because the in-game chat function wasn't working in the build we played, we had to put together and Xbox Live party to use voice chat. There is some in game chat in there but not sure if it's based on proximity or just being able to hear all the other people in the game, I would imagine there are numerous settings you can tweak to set to friends only or nothing at all but it isn't something we tried.

whiteyford 09-27-2013 11:43 AM

Gonna go raid the weed farm, worth 100k apparently.

Savio 09-27-2013 11:50 AM

Where on the map is that near?

whiteyford 09-27-2013 11:55 AM

Braddock Pass, Mt Chiliad, supposedly its good to hit every couple weeks in game time.

whiteyford 09-27-2013 11:58 AM

Weed Icon appears when you're close.

Sepholio 09-27-2013 12:40 PM

I'm about to start a second game. Gonna try and see how rich I can get.

Ermaximus 09-27-2013 03:34 PM

Don't know who I wish I could kill more. Wade, Floyd, or Jimmy.

Kane Knight 09-27-2013 05:00 PM

What's not to love about a Juggalo who sounds like the kid from American Dad and the survival instincts of a nameless Star Trek extra?

Fignuts 09-27-2013 05:28 PM

Definitely Jimmy.

Disturbed316 09-28-2013 02:26 AM

Picked up plane to uncover the whole of Los Santos, hit a flock of birds and it was one hell of a mess.

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-28-2013 04:02 AM

A flock of...seagulls?
