Apparently one of the ideas for the end of the Vince McMahon's illegitimate son angle involved Vince killing Hornswoggle by chucking him off a bridge.

I mean Tyson Smith has a few profiles on MMA sites and they all agree he is 36 from Winnipeg except that fucking weird one that wrestles women for cash. He is Canadian though...

It's infuriating because there isn't one picture of any of the events he fought on.
I literally went through a comprehensive list of Kenny Omega wrestling matches and cross checked the dates with the MMA matches just to see if he was busy elsewhere on any of those dates.
He wasn't.

It could be a mad coincidence or it could be true.

I kinda want it to be true now.

It happened on a pro wrestling card so it very well could be

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 09:50 AM

I've checked that card on a couple of sites and it only records two MMA matches on the show, no mention of any wrestling besides in the promotion name. So weird.

This is where you were spot on about Severn in the first place, he fought on suspiciously tiny shows that were filled with untrained fighters and taking a dive for $50 against a legend beats having your arm ripped off.

This is why Cornette and others think MMA is basically pro wrestling all over again.
It's hard to argue when you look at a carny show.

Bad News Gertner 05-01-2020 09:52 AM

Lol he fought Shannon Rich in back to back matches and did the same exact finish. One march was in like Alaska and the other was somewhere down south in like California so they didn't think anyone would notice.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 09:59 AM

Shannon Ritch, Travis Fulton, Dan Severn... Anyone that fights unheard-of's on a weekly basis will have a whole lot of suspicious data in their record.

I might waste my day doing that actually.
Statistical analysis...

Bad News Gertner 05-01-2020 10:06 AM

My favourite worked MMA fight is Takada vs Kyle Sturgeon where Sturgeon drops Takada right away with a kick and just stands there. Probably because the Yakuza were sharpening their knives in the front row.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 10:10 AM

Mark Coleman fixed a few when he was broke, always in Japan.
Pancrase and Pride had a lot of fixed fights obviously but people forget guys like Ken and Frank Shamrock did it too. Vernon White was pretty notorious for it.

Pretty much all Kimbo fights were fixed. Dive money.

The Japs perfected that formula for everyone to enjoy. Buy off one guy, let the other think the win was real.

If this was the case wouldn't UFC be a lot better? Sure it may have happened in the company before but I have no proof. Could've been a ton of reasons for a fight to get thrown. They don't all have to do with the promotion itself though. I don't think that UFC or Bellator are inherently worked beyond match making being strategic.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 11:36 AM

I said MMA, not UFC.
However UFC has had plenty of fixed fights, right from day 1.

Didn't Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin in UFC's first Ultimate Finale have a phantom punch in it? Also, it had Ken Shamrock take off his cup in the middle of the cage after the fight.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 09:34 PM

That's the beauty of MMA, it's hard to tell if someone is acting weird because they have given up or because they are outclassed.
Ken Shamrock worked a good number of fights early on and I have no problem believing that some of his later fights were extremely questionable given the level of opponent he was facing. I think when it comes to the UFC he was likely, at worst, guilty of fighting when he had to know he was going to lose pretty badly so his fights against Ortiz and Franklin were only feasible on paper.
I think Dana White used his name value to boost a couple of people who would have done well without it, which he is continually guilty of to this day.

Dana rigs things in people's favour but I'm not sure he has outright paid a guy to take a dive. I think referees, judges and fighters have been influenced in all of the most traditional ways though.

Maybe a ref stops getting used as much or has various rules emphasised to them before the match or an unsuited fighter takes a fight on short notice for a guaranteed 3 fight contract after.

Dana White is like a horrible mixture of Vince and every boxing promoter ever but like they were, he's smarter than the carnies so the fixing is all much smarter.

Small-time logic would be "It's easier to pay a guy to lose than pay a guy to win" but that's why the worst fixes are so obvious.
If you want to make it hard to spot you buy the entire business that the refs, judges and athletes compete in.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2020 09:46 PM

Up til Zuffa bought UFC the fixing was pretty brutal and often quite obvious. Guys on the same team might agree beforehand who was getting the rub based on likelihood of overall winning. I know Mark Hall did that for someone.

The worst I can remember off the top of my head was Anthony Macias vs Oleg Taktarov. He just runs into a guillotine and taps straight away. I think even Jim Brown realises it's fake and says something.

God Bless those early ones. Al Snow was in Dan Severns corner for one of them.

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis announced at a COVID-19 briefing that sporting events such as WWE and AEW's weekly shows, fans are allowed into the building as long as the venue is at a maximum of 25% capacity.

The guidelines mandate that this can start as early as next Monday night, with Monday Night RAW, from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

AEW is also taping all of their events at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

This is huge news and also means that AEW can allow fans into the arena for their big Double or Nothing PPV, May 23rd.

I think Macias and Taktarov may have been team mates too, it's well known that agreements were reached so that one guy might go into a fight a lot healthier than his opponent.

UFC is a lot slicker now, like boxing in its heyday.

Yeah especially considering 25% capacity of Daily's Place is around 1375. Performance Center would be around 100 but everyone would be a lot more cramped in since less space to spread them out compared to a regular arena.

Vince and WWE managed to open up a huge can of worms because of their stubbornness over this on-going coronavirus pandemic. Them finding a sleazeball of a politician to do it isn't a big surprise on it own.

UFC could have saved a ton of money and ridicule from their Fight Island stuff had they just waited a couple of weeks for WWE to do the dirty work for them.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-02-2020 07:50 PM

Like, even with 1375 people in every other seat, having fans seems like such an awful idea. I like the wrestlers being in the crowd because it has helped, and with a fuller roster they could enhance that atmosphere. But man, packing even 1k people in spaced out just sounds bad.

Seems Charlotte's appearance on last week's episode of NXT was a huge bust in terms of viewership according to the Observer.

Despite them hyping up her match with Mia Yim for the past few weeks, the match itself ended up being the lowest rated in terms of the key demo and 2nd lowest in terms of overall viewership on the show. Also one of the lowest ever rated in the key demo since NXT moved to USA Network.

Outside of her first return appearance to NXT, WWE's plans of using Charlotte's star power to be a big boost for NXT's key demo ratings has backfired badly. Pretty much been diminishing returns since then.

He looked great until he did anything.
If Ron Simmons had been that vascular he would have been pushed forever in WWE.

Yeah, I remember being big into his feud vs Nation of Domination

How is Charlotte Flair doing as NXT Women's Champion? Subconsciously I can't help but compare such reigns to Cena's United States title reign.

GD 05-06-2020 02:28 PM

Remember when they referred to the women's champion as the NXT Champion for a short period of time?

So far her reign feels like almost every other one she's had so far in WWE.

No real direction and came at the cost of knee capping all the momentum and star rise Rhea gained from her Baszler feud.

Could see NXT beat AEW this week via NXT having a big show and Tony Khan booking the laziest sounding card in ages...

Cody vs Janela
Mox vs Spears

Evil Vito 05-06-2020 03:30 PM

Per Tony Khan, all wrestlers and staff present at tonight's tapings including himself were tested for coronavirus prior to entering the building and everybody tested negative.

So while it's nice that there won't be any potentially sick workers performing...that opens up the next criticism which is that they were able to rapidly test that many people in a short period of time despite a national test shortage.

This cannot be stated enough. Nearly as bad as the bungling of Asuka from NXT to main roster.

If it does happen, just more proof NXT can only really beat AEW by dipping even more into the TakeOver well and not because their weekly shows have been built up strong on their own.

Like the Dream vs. Balor feud pretty much got quickly canned in order to rush back to the Dream vs. Cole feud because NXT needs more than 1 Takeover-quality match on a show to sway the needle these days.

Yeah, I can't really get behind that booking decision.

While Charlotte is a top tier performer, she's always booked and treated like such a spoiled brat (which makes her unlikeable to an extent). If the dirtsheets were to be believed, she won this year's rumble match because she was promised a win at last year's event. That comes across as cringeworthy considering she did end up in the main event of last year's WrestleMania. All of these decisions do take some luster off of her accomplishments.

Apparently Maryland's State Athletic Commission recently fined AEW $10k for the Unsanctioned match between Moxley and Omega at Full Gear.

The former WCW announcer guy who snitched on them has been gloating about it despite everyone else mocking him about it. Somehow he thinks AEW getting fined is a bigger black eye to wrestling than all the shit WWE has pulled recently.

"This puts AEW on notice, as well, and it embarrasses the company. By this time tomorrow the story will have spread far and wide. Meanwhile despite being named in a class-action lawsuit regarding allegations of top WWE executives committing acts for their own personal financial benefit and not for the company's best interests, Triple H decided to sell off over $1 million worth of his WWE stocks recently.

A&E Network has greenlit the new series "The Quest for Lost WWE Treasures"(wt) in partnership withWWE Studioswhich takes viewers on the ultimate hunt to find some of WWE's most iconic, lost memorabilia. In each episode, WWE's Stephanie McMahon and Paul "Triple H" Levesque, will lead a team of collectors, WWE Superstars and Legends as they investigate, negotiate, bid and travel across the country to hunt down and reclaim some of the most elusive WWE collectibles.

Throughout history, WWE's action-packed storylines have spawned iconic, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, most of which is lost in attics, hidden in boxes or even claimed by competitors. Guided by McMahon and Levesque, the series will unearth these rare items in the hopes of preserving and sharing the legacy behind the memorable moments in WWE history. Episodes will feature exclusive WWE footage as well as unprecedented access to the WWE Archives, which holds more than 10,000 rarities including Andre the Giant's custom boots, Vince McMahon's cement-filled Corvette, The Undertaker's caskets and more.Over the course of ten one-hour episodes, WWE Superstars and Legends will give viewers a unique look into WWE history as they seek out the missing treasures that have left a lasting mark on pop culture.

The network is dead. This would be another obvious network show instead on A&E (who are also doing new episodes of Biography on wrestlers like Randy Savvage and Piper)

Should have kept Ryder and Hawkins for this new show since they were already doing the same but for wrestling figurines.

Besides Florida, seems Connecticut also recently gave WWE "essential business" status which is why they were able to tape wrestling stuff at their headquarters for Money in the Bank.

This year's SummerSlam might not be taking place in Boston due to the city's mayor not lifting the ban on large public events till early September.
