If I had to guess, its probably a mix of guys tackling lower due to rule changes and certain types pf practices being restricted by amount for the past couple of years.

Quote:

The NFL implemented a number of changes this year that were intended to reduce the number of injuries. In March, NFL owners agreed to eliminate “all chop blocks and peel blocks by running backs outside the tackle box,” ban “players from pushing teammates at the line of scrimmage in order to block punts” and expand “defenseless-player protection to include interception returns.” None of these arcane changes have had any noticeable impact on the total number of injuries thus far. The NFL claims that previous rule changes have reduced the number of concussions sustained by NFL players.
http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2015...-nfl-football/

They tried to get rid of high hits and the chop style but instead of coaches teaching players to tackle the body, most are probably going lower towards the knees for easier tackles.

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...5/injuries.htm
A big bulk of this year's injuries are towards the foot and knee areas.

Another quick search might suggest something a bit more sinister if Brady Quinn is right about how players are using and hiding their HGH use.

Next month's NFL owners vote is going to determine which team or teams are likely moving to LA for next season. Baring a sudden change, the current options are Raiders & Chargers or just the Rams.

Raiders considering pairing with the Rams if their bid with the Chargers doesn't get enough support prior to the vote. Rams nor Chargers are interested in pairing together.

They have pretty bad ticket sales/attendence but Rams, Raiders are in the bottom 3 with the Vikes. Vikes will be okay once they get the new stadium probably.

ClockShot 12-04-2015 07:11 AM

Rams would end up making the most sense. Seattle, San Fran, and Arizona are a straight line then you hang a left and go half way across the country to play in St. Louis. It would just make the NFC West way more convenient.

Don't know why San Diego would move. City would end up being a 1-team town with the Padres. Could picture Oakland. Get the hell out of O.co Stadium and leave it to the A's to deal with.

I know this is their 3rd losing season in the last 4, but 2012 was really a lost season because of Bountygate and even then, they were 7-9 in 2012 and 2014. Not like they were total bottom dwellers.

Preliminary ruling by the NY Supreme Court went in favor of the state over Draft Kings and FanDuel. Gambling ban for fantasy sports betting sites is staying in effect until the Court makes an official ruling.

Lawyers for DraftKings and FanDuel argued that their clients could not have violated gambling statutes because they were taking in entry fees and not wagers. The main support for their contention was a New Jersey case -- an unpublished decision in Humphrey v. Viacom (2007) -- which Mendez disregarded, saying that what they took in were in fact bets under New York law.

"New York State penal law does not refer to 'wagering' or 'betting,' rather it states that a person, 'risks something of value,'" Mendez wrote. "The payment of an 'entry fee' as high as $10,600 on one or more contests daily could certainly be deemed risking 'something of value.'"

Half owner. The town owns the other half in a similar deal to the Packers, so they can't be Modell'd again.

But yes, the front office are dickheads. But that seems to be par for the course in Cleveland sports. Let's get a corporate cash cow going with no effort, and when it doesn't work, reshuffle the deck until it does work.

NFL announced small rule tweaks for the playoffs mostly to help for stuff not normally covered by NFL's replay HQ.

The NFL's replay HQ won't be allowed to overturn calls not allowed by instant replay but refs can ask for help to make sure they got other stuff done correctly.

This will not include the ability to call or change a foul, or otherwise become involved in on-field judgment calls that are not subject to the current Instant Replay system.

Also NFL will be punishing teams more harshly if they try to get around the concussion protocol. The recent Case Keenum situation with the Rams being the reason why the penalties are going to be a lot more stricter from now on.

NFL putting next year's Thursday Night games up for bidding. Biggest changes is the possibility of no NFL Network exclusive games and streaming services being allowed to show all games. NFL is trying to push to see if they can co-host a playoff game but not expected to be approved by whoever wins the bids.

Also possible for one network to buy out all the games instead of splitting it with other networks.

Quote:

The NFL has told TV networks that it is ready to accept bids for the “Thursday Night Football” package that, once again, will be for just two years, according to several sources. The league last week sent formal RFPs to the usual TV partners and outlets -- CBS, ESPN, Fox, NBC and Turner -- that outlined the NFL’s plan to sell a one-year deal with a league option for a second year. The league also sent RFPs to several digital companies, like Google, Yahoo, Apple and Amazon, to stream the entire Thursday night schedule on a non-exclusive basis, sources said. The league’s initial plan would have the digital streams serve as a simulcast of the television production -- with the same ads and in-game production features. The league expects bidding to start in the low $300M for the television package, with a nominal escalator in year two, sources said. CBS currently is paying around $300M per season for the Thursday night package.

Odell Beckham Jr suspended 1 game by the NFL probably due more because of the blatant helmet-to-helmet hit he gave to Josh Norman. NFL hinted he should have been tossed from the game because of it.

According to reports, the Panthers pre-game antics towards him were what likely set him off during the game.

18 seasons in the game. One of the last few of the 90's old guard still hanging around if I'm not mistaken.

Bet in a few seasons the game will be loaded up with millennial picks. Which is quite scary.

Is Woodson still the only defensive player to win the Heisman?

Evil Vito 12-22-2015 08:59 AM

Yep, and even at that he was a two-way player.

It's been exclusively QB and RB since. There's a natural bias towards those positions at the college level.

Panther dropping the pre-game bats routine and denied rumors of homophobic slurs were said towards Beckham Jr prior to the Giants-Panthers game.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Beckham felt threatened when Ball carried a black baseball bat onto the field during warm-ups Sunday and was motioning with it toward the receiver while making comments, and it helped put him in a certain state of mind for a game in which he was penalized three times for unnecessary roughness, including a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman.

I'm just parroting Simmons here but it's hilarious how Cam Newton is 8th in QBR and Tom Brady is 13th.

Your garbage stat is garbage, ESPN.

As always there are bound to be plenty of replacements due to playing in the Super Bowl/injury/making up other excuses to pull out.

Not sure why they even do voting for OL/FB/P/ST since there really aren't many quantifiable stats to go off of...at least not ones that anybody will bother to look up. Ends up being pretty much the same people every year in those spots.
