The buildings don't make sense, the stairs inside every building don't make sense, catwalks and hallways leading to other buildings don't make sense. And Kalyx is right, they have the most generic names ever.

I was having a discussion with my cousin earlier tonight after someone accused him of camping.

Id like your opinions on this, as he and I play similar styles. Is there a difference between camping and area denial?

I've always considering camping sitting in one spot or one corner or what have you with the gun aimed hard at the door and waiting to fire at the slightest movement that goes by. In short, a skillless playstyle.

Area denial is where you pick an area of the map to control and defend it against attacks. For example there are three corners, lets name them A, B, and C and next to A is a doorway and next to C is a doorway and next to B is a small ledge you can use for cover.

What I sometimes do is hang around and kill someone, check the map to see,where they likely spawned and then go the opposite way. They come running in the A door, I'm outside the C door and pop them as they run into the next room. Next ill go to the corner by A, as they will inevitably run back again and they get knifed in the back.

Ill likely lay by B this time and let them run by and then stalk them to somewhere else and shoot them there to make them think that's where I am now.

Next ill go to a completely different area and repeat the process.

So I ask, was I camping or playing a strategy and thus was my cousin camping.

Had a mad clutch moment tonight. Team defender, both teams were full parties, jawing back and forth after one game where we dominated them, and went back and forth in this one, where we were actually losing at the end...until...

Well there's a few thoughts I have on this:

Making a distinction between camping and area denial looks pretty flimsy, I would just say, "Fuck it, I am camping." I wouldn't need to explain myself to no damn body.

The thing is, these games are about firefights. Shooting at people and getting shot at, and taking cover is smart. Sometimes you have games where enemies are expected at a certain route/room/objective, and what - I'm gonna not find a sweet spot to defend just because some fucker don't know how to clear a room or find unorthodox flank routes? Fuck that. Once I find a decent spot in Battlefield 3's Rush mode, I will sit my ass down the entire game if it means keeping an MCOM clear.

Now the problem arises in the balance issue. If somebody is not just in a good hiding spot, but some out of the way area that has little to do with the gametype - just padding the K/D stats, I call that gay. Whether on my team or not, I hate seeing meaningless camping by Recons with no clue. At the very least there's a spot mechanic.

In CoD, the game (up until they launched with these 4x4 mouse maps) pretty much encouraged camping. It's so engrained in people's playstyle they still camp in a Kill Confirmed game, a mode designed to cut that shit down. They rather lose than not camp.

Anyway, do what the fuck wins a game and helps your team. Don't explain shit to anybody, don't rationalize. Just don't be a dick about it. This is like the discussion of what spamming is in a fighting game (truth is, it's all in your head).

Basically what Kalyx said. If you're playing skirmish game modes where you defend, it's NEVER camping. To me, kill cams should be your anti camping tool...you see where and how they killed you ffs, if you're not smart enough to adapt, don't bitch that someone is playing the field better than you.

The biggest thing is, the idiots ALWAYS come back. They know where I am and I know if the situation was reversed I either would not go back there or I would do it tactically by

1) Tact grenade
2) Grenade launcher (this is what its supposed to be used for)
3) Have a buddy flank

This. I've played MW3 once since getting Skyrim. Skyrim isn't my only reason for not playing tho. It's only been like 2 weeks and I am already sick of quickscopers and don't wanna play.

This game is definitely demonstrating the difference between IW COD players and Treyarch COD players.

As someone who hasn't played a COD game since COD 2 (but is interested in MW3), what exactly are quickscopers and how are they a problem?

They are these jackasses, usually young kids 11-16 with high pitched voices.

They can be found using bolt action sniper rifles, where they zoom in just long enough to see the enemy in their sights and then release the zoom to make it look like they didnt have to aim.

They do this because they think it makes them leet, hip or "cool"

It takes little effort and no skill to do. I do not do it, but where Ihave done so for kicks, I usually finish top 2-3 out of 10-12.

Its very fucking stupid tbh.

And anyone who uses a HBS is a fucking tool.

But more importantly, and I don't know how you managed to skip the most important part of quickscopers, they're cheaters.

By quickly tapping LT, the sights quickly auto focus on an enemy giving them an instant kill.

It has nothing to do with making it look like they didn't have to aim.

You learn something new everyday.

Hell, likely looks like I quickscope at times then, as I aim shoot and unzoom fast but mostly because hardscoping is idiocy.

How have you been playong this long and have never known that?

I know the guns will drag towards an enemy at times but I did not know that's what quickscoping did.

No news on when a patch to fix the lag issues will be released although Infinity Ward did say once they finish working on the other stuff to be patched, they will include the lag patch in the package so just 1 update download would be needed.

Eh I thought it was pretty bad in MW2 also. Out of the 4 games the AK47 has been in, Black Ops version has been the best tho imo. The World at War "version(STG 44)" was pretty good too.

Nah, MW2's was the best. It was fucking weak in black ops. Used to beast in MW2 with the AK and deagle. Was barely worth equipping in black ops.

My 4000 kills to 1000 deaths with it in Black Ops disagrees. Only reason it's not higher is because I would use the Famas every time I prestiged till I unlocked at 44 or whatever.

I'm not saying someone couldn't be good with it. I'm just saying it was a more powerful weapon overall in MW2. It was just superior, from the recoil, to damage and accuracy. Perhaps it is the slight difference in the shooting mechanics of the two games, but I just found it to be a much more useful weapon in MW2. There were more guns in Black Ops that I felt were better overall than the AK47, where-as in MW2 the AK47 was at the top of the list and was a devastating weapon.

I remember a few matches stating

"I don't always kick your ass, but when I do, I use the Ak47"

For someone who uses it every game since he started playing CoD and uses it a lot I would rank it.

people wouldnt be so wtf about it if you werent so up and down on the franchise, Fangel. The game both inherently is awesome and sucks. The days youre 'on', it fucking rocks...other times, a bad connection and a few wtf moments leaves you frustrated. It is what it is, and you have to take both as part of the game.

As for game features, most of them have a counteraction to them, with a few exceptions like quick scoping. You just gotta learn to adapt...you will inevitably run into people online who are assholes and exploit without hesitation a particular aspect of the game. There is no way to avoid this, beyond never going on xbox live.
