Jays got a steal in Reimold. Always liked him save for being made of glass. At this point he probably puts together 1 solid season where he stays on the field for 125 games. Dunno when that will be though.
|
He was pretty close to being forced out of baseball due to injuries so I'm fairly confident he won't suddenly not be plagued by injuries.
|
Droford already pissed about losing him.
|
Not really. The O's didn't have a spot for him and even if they did, it would have probably ended with him getting hurt again. Good for him if he can keep healthy, it does suck he ended up in the division though.

They may have just taken the best deal available. That, and with all the middle infield depth they have, they may be able to move Castro for some pitching.

Jays are hurting big time, which is a shame because they were onto something.....

Manny went 5-6 with a HR as a part of a 6 run 3HR 11th vs the Nats

want to literally and figuratively stab this guy in the neck |
Padres GM search continues, as Kim Ng has been getting quite the pub here recently. She does seem incredibly qualified, much the way Jed was very much qualified when he interviewed/took the job.
Of the current list of candidates, I like the Marlins' Beinfest, Logan White of the Dodgers, and Ng. My two favorite candidates, Jason McLeod and David Forst have bowed out of contention, so those are the three the Padres are left with that I consider ideal hires, for a number of reasons. I think Ng is hungry. Regardless that she's a woman and the hire would be shattering the current glass ceiling, she has an amazing track record, is clearly hungry for the job considering she's been interviewed multiple times (including by the Padres), and could be the right mind for the job. |
Ng Nog.
|
Former Oriole (kind of) Tsuyoshi Wada pitched well for the Cubs. Surprise.
|
Trade him back to you for Machado. Cubs need some infield help in their minor league system.
|
You can have Ryan Flaherty back (rule 5 pick from the Cubs). Might even throw in some baseball cards.

Hmmmm.....k. But you have to bring back Lou Montanez
|
Can we have Rizzo back?
|
I want the Rockies to fire their front office and owners somehow and hire Kim Ng to run the team.
Then I want the Rockies to not be injured to death. |

Everything was going so well like 6 or 8 weeks ago and then it all just fell apart.:'( |
That Dodgers/Tigers game last night was a lot of fun. JV got torched early for a 5-spot in the first inning, then it was all Detroit. 20 hits last night, no HRs. No VMart either. Fuckin' JD Martinez is on fire right now.

Red Sox DFA A.J. Pierzynski.
Sign of the times. Big time name of the past getting sent down or released these days. |
Tanaka going for an MRI on his pitching arm
you fucking kidding me fuck you, baseball |
I'm done
|
Well. Atleast it's right before the all-star break. He's got some time. Probably miss 1 game tops.
|
Its gotta be the Orioles year, right? I would never have imagined the rest of the AL East imploding into a black hole of suck and injuries like they have.
|
Either Red Sox are about to give up on the season or are planning on a bunch of trades soon.
Starting 5 rookies for tonight's game and probably staying that way till the break. |

See you in 2015, Masahiro Chono Masasto Tanaka :( |
Don't be a downer, Vito. Think positive. This could be minor, it could be the worst.

Sale and Rizzo deserve it. Especially Rizzo. He's having an outstanding year.
Waiting for Hawk Harrelson to start demanding that the White Sox sign his adopted son AJ. |
Unless Cashman swings a trade for a big time pitcher, Yankees are pretty much done. Kuroda can't do this himself. And I don't trust McCarthy.
Gonna be a looooooooooong 6 weeks. |
Raul Ibanez is SO bad. So comically hilariously deliciously bad.
|
Tanaka should really just get the surgery now and aim to be back by the 2015 All Star Break. Rehabbing this kind of shit never works.
|
All the attention going to Tanaka but the Molina injury is probably just as big news.
|

The Tanaka injury is another shit thing for baseball. The whole idea of pitching injuries is alarming. Seems like everyone has a ligament injury at some point. So many reasons for it. Max effort every pitch. Throwing sliders at too young an age. Too many pitches thrown in a whole life...reasons are endless.
At the end of the day with all these possibly pre existing conditions that put stress on the arm/elbow, what's an mlb team to do? Tanaka threw an average of 105 pitches this year. Should the yanks have been more cautious? Should the Rays not have David Price throw 110 pitches every game? I dunno. |
Quote:
As for the injuries, I'm pretty sure it all comes down to the fact the human arm was never intended to repeat the throwing motion of a ball 200+ times (don't forget warmups) every 5 days for 7 months. It probably comes down to who has the best pitching mechanics and can consistently repeat a good pitching motion. |
You're pretty sure, probably
I agree. Drotherfordium has the inside scoop |
Yankees acquire Jeff Francis and a sack of monopoly money from the A's for a PTBNL.
Yeah. Not the "big move" I was talking about. |
Reimold left the jays game with a calf injury. Took him longer to get injured than I figured.
|
Agreed Droford. Seems like the bottom line is just that with max effort of the throwing motion, ligaments get worn out over time like a tire and need to be replaced.
Two more points concerning the topic: With this being an issue, why don't we see more of the maddox, glavine, or even buehrle type guys? Are they forgotten about because they don't blow up a radar gun and never get enough coaching to refine their skills? Does a pitcher have to be able to throw 95 mph gas to be effective these days? It's interesting to see how this is shaping the way rosters are constructed. The cubs are clearly banking on hitting being a market deficiency because they consider it easier to find a guy who throws gas. |
So the Braves got a player on the anti-allstar team. Guess who it is?
Hint: It's Dan Uggla. |

ugh love you fraze but plz kill yourself |
Some All Star Game roster shuffling:
AL out: Edwin Encarnacion (TOR), Masahiro Tanaka (NYY), Alex Gordon (KC), Victor Martinez (DET) AL in: Kyle Seager (SEA), Koji Uehara (BOS), Eric Aybar (LAA), Ian Kinsler (DET) NL out: Yadier Molina (STL), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS) NL in: Miguel Montero (ARI), Henderson Alvarez (MIA) There could very well be some more shuffling tomorrow. Guys pitching on the Sunday before the game are no longer required to sit out but if they decide to pitch in the game they can only go 1 inning and are on a pitch count. Very possible a few more guys will pull out. If things stay as they are now, the first place Nationals will not have anybody playing as Zimmermann was their lone rep. |

Brad Miller struck out looking. He disagreed with the call, but started to walk back to the dugout. Bob Davidson actually followed him, continuing to jaw at him, and the second Miller turned back around Davidson ejected him. What an asshole.

I think I heard Adam Jones was the one that brought the belt, he's a big WWE fan.

The Minnesota camera angle is the worst. No concept of the strike zone.
|
Pretty boring All Star Game but still better than last year's.
The Padres tweeted this picture out after the game: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BspBFUdCUAAhB3-.jpg Cannot fucking believe MLB/FOX didn't do anything for Gwynn during the ASG, his name was not even mentioned once during the broadcast. But hey who cares when you can see Jeter standing in the dugout at least once per half inning. |
Didn't catch the ASG (had other commitments) but damn that sucks if they actually didn't do anything for Gwynn. Pretty huge oversight.
|
I hate long west coast road trips
|
I hate the All Star break.. so happy baseball is back on tonight
|
Braves cut Dan Uggla loose.
CC Sabathia opts for season ending knee surgery. |
What was the story with Uggla? He just mad over losing the starting job?
|
No, he just sucked, so the Braves made the choice on one else would make; the right choice.
|
Jays are gonna pick up Uggla. Just watch.
|
After the Mariners sold the farm for a pitcher once before you think they'd, ya know, not try to do it again.
|
The Astros fail to sign #1 overall pick Brady Aiken, first time in 31 years the top pick went unsigned.

In case you missed it.
Angels acquire Huston Street and Trevor Gott from the Padres for Taylor Lindsey (Angels top prospect), R.J Alvarez, Jose Rondon, and Elliot Morris. So they grab Grilli from the Pirates and now Street. Either DiPoto is really on the hot seat and is making moves to keep his job, or there's something bigger in play. Giving 2 of your tops guys is a steep price to get another closer. |
|
C.C. Sabathia expects a lot of gravy for his biscuits, to be made from his surgery, because he's fat.
|
I would not be surprised if Sabathia's career was over... not the same pitcher since losing the weight.
|
Think age is why CC's breaking down.
|
Yankees acquire Chase Headley and $1 mil. from the Padres for Yangervis Solarte and Rafael De Paula.
Hmph. I would have preferred pitching arms. But we needed a 3B, too. |
Based on their production this year Solarte for Headley seems like a lateral if not a slight decrease. But Headley was really good 2 years ago and Solarte's been a career minor leaguer up until this year so it's not a bad experiment.
|
The Headley experiment got off to a good start, we'll see if he keeps it up. Don't think the Yanks have a shot this year though unless both Baltimore and Toronto really shit the bed (entirely possible)
|
Nice to see the Detroit Rangers pick up Soria as well. DD has already given Nathan the dreaded "public vote of confidence" after the move, because that always works well.
|
Phillies "discussing" releasing Ryan Howard after this year and eating his $60 million. I know he's been pretty bad lately, but I've never been a fan of the whole "eating the contract" thing. He's got basically a year and a half left on the deal. Might as well ride him out and platoon at 1B in the meantime.
|
Yankees acquire Chris Capuano from the Rockies in exchange for cash.
Don't know how hard I should laugh. |
Holy mother of fuck has Marcus Stroman evet been amazing.
|
He's had one really bad start and a handful of sub-par ones, but he's ben VERY consistent... not much more you can ask for from a kid.....
|
Trade just went down:
Red Sox get: P Heath Hembree, P Edwin Escobar Giants get: P Jake Peavy |
Being a huge Jake Peavy mark, my heart has been ripped to shreds knowing I'll have to endure him pitching against the Padres in a Giants uni.
|
What a year Rizzo is having. Really promising future this guy has. And apparently Soler and Baez are close to being called up. Oh and Kris Bryant might be a top 10 player in baseball and he's not even in the big league yet.
|
I love Rizzo. When Cash leaves the Padres in 2 years, that trade well look even worse. Any of our resident Cub fans think Castro may get moved for pitching with so much middle infield depth on the brink?
|
Hall of Fame board knocked down the eligibility years from 15 to 10. McGwire is the big name on the list who got 2 more years to go now.
Players who are in the 11-15 range now (Don Mattingly coming up on his 15th and final year, Alan Trammel (14th), and Lee Smith (13th) are all still eligible. Interesting move. |
Lol how is Jeff Francis on a major league roster?

Apparently Peavy is already going to start tomorrow night's nationally televised game between the Giants and Dodgers. Should be interesting.

Everyone else in the rotation either would have been bad deals (ex. Lester, Lackey) or too low in value because of injuries (Doubront, Buchholz). Quote:
|
Think the Sox are going to have to deal Lester at some point. They're not winning, long term contracts have not been good to them, and with the Rays winning and Price not seemingly on the market as of yet, they may be able to fetch a king's ransom for him. He's having a career year in a contract season, and considering his career numbers, I highly doubt how he is pitching this year is the guy you'd be getting beyond this season.
|
Blue Jays broke the streak today.
|
Blue Jays broke the Red Sox back today and made them humble.

before that they made the trade for Danny Valencia, clearly a division winning trade
