Wow, pretty surprised we didn't keep Woodson and cut Droughns or somebody.

In fact, if Tynes wasn't hurt, Woodson would be a definite...I'm sure they'll try to get him on the Practice Squad and hope someone else doesn't take him.

Not sure how I feel about John Carney...I hope Tynes isn't out long.

John Carney

:(

We cut K Melhalf which make no f'n sense to me.. I mean, he is a really good kicker and has looked almost as good as Gramatica in camp and preseason.. He just doesn't have the consistency Marteeeeeeen does on kick offs..

I dunno, seems like a huge waste..

RP 08-30-2008 08:48 PM

Colts are the best. I hate Kenton Keith and love Mike Hart and so ofcourse, they cut KK today and keep Mike Hart as the 3rd RB. Love it. Love Mike Hart. He reminds me of Curtis Martin. I wouldnt be suprised if he's getting some of Dom's carries by the end of the season.

I thought Droughns was a lock to get cut but now that I think about it with what happened last year at RB it makes sense for the Giants to try to stay as deep as possible. I'm confident (knock on wood) that Eli will be fine, as well as Carr because our line won't let him get hit that much.

Ninti the Mad 08-31-2008 01:13 PM

New rules.

— Giving designated defensive players a radio in his helmet, allowing coaches to relay defensive signals just as offensive signals are relayed from offensive coaches to the quarterback.

— Eliminating the 5-yard penalties for incidental face masks. Only the 15-yard penalty for grabbing and twisting the mask will be enforced. In addition, officials will be on the lookout for offensive players who latch on to the face masks of defenders in an effort to take them out of plays.

— Eliminating the force out rule. In the past, officials could rule a receiver whose feet had not touched in bounds had made a catch because a defensive player had forced him out. Under the new rule, a receiver must land with both feet in bounds regardless of whether or not he is hit while in the air.

“We feel that with so many levels of judgment that go into the force-out call, it creates a more consistent play when either you get your feet down for a complete pass or you do not,” says Atlanta president Rich McKay, co-chairman of the competition committee, which proposed the change.

— Extending instant replay to cover field goal and extra points and illegal forward handoffs. One reason the rule was added was a play at the end of a game in Baltimore in which Phil Dawson’s 51-yard game-tying field goal attempt for Cleveland bounced off an upright, then off the support behind the crossbar. Officials first ruled it no good because they thought it had hit the crossbar, then conferred and made the correct call.

#1-norm-fan 08-31-2008 04:06 PM

That sucks. I thought the force out rule was a good rule. It doesn't take TOO much judgment either. If a guy is pushing your body while you're in and you come down out of bounds, force out.

Ninti the Mad 08-31-2008 04:09 PM

Yeah, it will be a bitch call when it happens in the endzone and you are on 3rd down.

What if someone just decided to try and carry you outside? Whats the sanction on that? Horrible.

We'll see though. Maybe it'll make the NFL a little more 'gangsta' where the recievers have to work harder and stiff the competition.

Okay. I thought you meant the Bengals receiver so I went to NFL.com to see what was going on and found no info.

As for the Titan's Chris Henry, didn't he get suspended for drugs last year?

lol. I can see it now. Some skinny receiver catches a ball in the middle of the field and gets picked up before his feet hit the ground and is carried all the way to the sideline, all the while screaming and fighting to get down. Perfectly legal!!!

John Lynch, the longtime Pro Bowl safety signed by New England two weeks ago, was released by the Patriots on Sunday.

"It goes without saying but John is an all-time great safety, one of the league's classiest professionals and his elite play speaks for itself," coach Bill Belichick said of Lynch, who turns 37 on Sept. 25. "As has been the case in other situations, I would not rule anything out down the road."

During their decade-long run of success, the Patriots have regularly signed veterans and often released them, only to sign them again if needed. Belichick's comments indicate Lynch may be in that category. He has played 15 seasons, 11 in Tampa Bay and four in Denver.

The Patriots also cut Chad Jackson, their second-round pick in 2006. The wide receiver from Florida has been plagued by injuries and played only two games last season.
I guess Stima was right..

I heard that is still going to be called a touchdown. So there will still be some judgment for the ref (a push out = no catch but a carry out does)

As for Lynch I bet he'll still play at least a few games for the Patriots this year

Kris P Lettus 09-01-2008 03:27 AM

and bigger news...

Brady has a fracture in his foot... repoted needs 3-4 weeks to heal, but he's still expected to play week 1.

Daunte Culpepper Retires From NFL

Posted Sep 4th 2008 11:39AM by Michael David Smith (author feed)

Daunte Culpepper announced his retirement today after nine seasons in the NFL.

He expressed his frustrations with the NFL in his retirement letter:

When Free agency began this year, I had a new sense of excitement about continuing to rebuild my career in the same way that I had rebuilt my knee after my catastrophic injury in 2005. Unfortunately, what I found out was that the league did not share any of the optimism about me as an Unrestricted Free Agent that I expected. In fact, there was an overwhelming sense that there was no room for me among this year's group of quarterbacks; whether in a starting, competing or a back-up role. No matter what I did or said, there seemed to be a unified message from teams that I was not welcome to compete for one of the many jobs that were available at the quarterback position. It seems that the stance I took in both Minnesota and Miami regarding my rights as a person and player has followed me into Free Agency.

Culpepper was the Vikings' first-round draft pick in 1999 and spent seven seasons in Minnesota, playing in three Pro Bowls. He then played the 2006 season in Miami and the 2007 season in Oakland.

--------

It's pretty sad.. That knee injury completely fucked him.. So glad the Phins went after him instead of Brees..

Boomer 09-04-2008 12:58 PM

Maybe if he had shown some kind of promise, they would have shared his optimism.

I'm excited for some football tonight. Just hoping for a good game. I don't have cable, so any good game I can see with the channels I've got is fine by me.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-04-2008 01:13 PM

Nice half by the Giants. I would have liked to see another TD instead of one of the three FGs but otherwise playing well on both sides of the ball. The closing minutes were a bit disappointing.

Real solid half. So glad football is back.

Gonzo 09-04-2008 11:03 PM

Room for improvement from the Giants, but all in all a solid ball game. Lets hope Kiwi is okay, saw him go down on that last play.

Evil Vito 09-04-2008 11:04 PM

Kiwi walked off.....Chris Samuels needs to be fined. There was no reason to even run that play outside of trying to injure someone tbh.

Ninti the Mad 09-05-2008 01:37 PM

Redskins are weak.

Look at their preseason stats and check how many TD's they made going back.

They made no TD's for about 2 games I believe. Nothing but field goals.

I actually thought the Giants would win by a larger margin.

#1-norm-fan 09-05-2008 02:04 PM

Good god, what a horribly coached game by Jim Zorn! One of the worst I've ever seen.

I thought Washington might be pretty bad judging from how abysmal they played in the final two preseason games but they just carried it right into the season. Run, run, pass, punt. Run, run, pass two yards short of the marker, punt. Run, run, pass two yards short of the marker, punt. Run, run, pass two yard short of the marker, punt. Not to mention how conservative they looked on D for the most part. I can't see them winning 4 games at this rate.

Kris P Lettus 09-05-2008 02:08 PM

Giants shouldv'e swacked them..

I mean, they were dominant in the first half, then giving them good field position and then the penalty, allowing them to score right before the half..

Then they almost gave up the game in the second half, giving the Skins numerous opportunities to score and only holding onto a 9 point lead.. Zorn is a fucking idiot though.. ZERO clock management skills in that last 2 mins.. I mean, he never called a time out, he didn't kick a FG when well in range, with like 30 seconds left.. In that position, you always kick the FG, then the onsides.. Atleast then you get a shot at winning.. By going for it, he completely killed any chance they had of winning..

Retarded..

#1-norm-fan 09-05-2008 02:15 PM

I didn't even get around to mentioning his horrible clock management. Madden and Michaels tried to chalk it up to inexperience. That can't be an excuse for the simple things. Clock management and play calling that is THAT horrific are just inexcusable. He's been around the game for a long time. It's not like they are coaching secrets you need to learn over time or something.

Kris P Lettus 09-05-2008 02:17 PM

Yeah, the closest I've come to playing pro ball is playing Madden and I seemingly have 100% better clock management skills than Zorn..

Gonzo 09-05-2008 02:43 PM

Did it occur to anyone that they may have called the game that way because the Giants dominated the LOS?

Team Sheep 09-05-2008 02:46 PM

Yeah the Redskins game plan was pretty bad. That west coast crap isn't going to work in the NFC East. That division is all about smash mouth football, and they showed none of that. Working their way down the field with short gains out wide can work in the first and third quarters when you can eat up clock and tire out the defense, but not when there's 2 minutes left on the clock and you have to score twice, or when you're 3rd and 15 and you go for a short 5 yard pass. They did it again and again it didn't make sense. Why would you pass to a guy well before the marker on 3rd and long?! They could be forgiven if it was a one off but they did it time and time again, like robots who weren't programmed to do anything else.

Shame really because this Redskins team has a lot of potential.

I was more so referring to #1-wwf-fans mention of the run, run, pass, punt bit. The clock management was terrible indeed. I feel bad for Campbell because of all the coaching systems he has been going through but you know what he is a Redskin, so fuck him.

Hate to break it to you but the Eagles run the west coast offence.

Oh :$ my bad. I just think they're going away from their strengths a bit. They should stick with what they did in their late surge last season that got them into the playoffs. Wouldn't it have made sense to build on that for this season? If they'd kept their composure and didn't press the panic button so soon agasint the Seahwks last year, they could have easily got to the divisional round.

I agree to an extent. Gibbs built a team that he wanted to coach, and the players they have now aren't totally suited to what Zorn seems to want to do. Still, we'll see.

So the solution to getting dominated at the line is to become predictable? Shotgun, quick pass... something. And on top of that, they actually protected much better as the game went along yet the play calling remained the same.

There is NO good reason to call a game like that. Period.
