I guess this is another case of "Manny being Manny" although not sure if this would be a huge loss for the Rays since he was hitting horribly to start the season and they only took a $2 million risk with him.

MVP 04-08-2011 05:39 PM

Bout time Red Sox.

Hardkore Kidd J 04-08-2011 06:48 PM

Few more starts like that Hughes and you just watch what fucking happens to you. Man, I really hope we trade him if this is the "Real" Phil Hughes.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-08-2011 08:05 PM

If thats the real Phil Hughes who would want him?

Droford 04-08-2011 08:12 PM

damnit, Os game got rained out tonight, 2x header tomorrow.

Last time the Os and Rangers had a double header at camden yards the Rangers scored 30 runs in one of the games.

Emperor Smeat 04-08-2011 08:33 PM

Is that the same game the Rangers also managed to record a save due to a loophole in the save rule?

Droford 04-08-2011 08:38 PM

I dont remember but probably.

BAH GAWD! WHAT CARNAGE!

El Fangel 04-09-2011 01:35 AM

Could someone explain how a save works?

Emperor Smeat 04-09-2011 02:11 AM

"In baseball statistics, the term save is used to indicate the successful maintenance of a lead by a relief pitcher, usually the closer, until the end of the game."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Save_%28baseball%29#Usage

Normally it occurs at the 9th inning once the closer comes in and the lead between 1 to 3 runs with some saves starting from the 8th inning to end of the game.

A blown save is when the closer or relief pitcher gives up the lead with the runs going against the previous pitcher (if he left players on base) or the closer (if there was nobody on base at the time).

If a relief pitcher faces as many players as the run difference and finishes the game he gets a save.

3 Batters= 3 Runs and so on.

If they took out their SP early enough to get the win in the 6th inning and the RP closed the entire rest of the game then yes he would have been credited with a save. It's not a loophole, it's the continuation of the save rule. If you face enough batters that the game could be tied and they had scored you get a save.

You also get a save if you close out the game as a RP pitching 3.0 innings which the pitcher in the game did.

Padres and Dodgers finally got the suspended game ruling after several rain delays. The game's going to be finished tomorrow.

Gertner 04-09-2011 08:57 AM

Kyle fucking Drabek!

Evil Vito 04-09-2011 10:43 AM

A bit late on this but whatever - I always thought the steroid players should get into the HOF even if they had an asterik put next to their name, it was just a dark era for baseball. I thought the same for Manny after his last suspension.

But now? Fuck him. It's retarded enough to get caught a second time, but to retire instead of facing the consequences and fucking his team over (still would have been like 50 games left when he returned) should be enough to disqualify him for life.

Innovator 04-09-2011 03:25 PM

Manny is a bitch.

mhirn3 04-09-2011 04:08 PM

I swear to god every fucking red sucks/yankees game takes 5 hours to complete. Every time I have to run them on fox it fucks my day up

Gertner 04-09-2011 05:37 PM

Cecil vs Palmer tonight. I really hope Cecil is better this time because the next two pitching match ups for my Jays are Jo Jo Reyes vs Jared Weaver and Jesse Litsch vs King Felix.

Damian Rey 04-09-2011 06:07 PM

I think that someone like Bonds, who as a legit 5 tool player in his hey day, should get into the Hall based on numbers he put up before he was suspected of doing roids. I mean, when you go back and look at the kind of numbers he put and the type of game he played, he was pretty much Carl Crawford with a shit ton more power.

Manny is a sad case. One of the most prolific hitters of his era goes out in a cloud of shame. The Rays will be fine, and this could be a great break for them if it means they eventually bring up Desmond Jennigs, who could man left field and move Damon to DH.

But Manny, a guy who at times was very likeable and one of the great personalities and faces of the game, going out because he couldn't wise up and stay away from the juice, is a damn shame. I don't think he's getting in now.

DaveWadding 04-09-2011 07:35 PM

Yanks sign Carlos Silva. They REALLY must be desperate.

 yea, just trying to bolster the plethora of underwhelming arms to help fill in the rotation. I'm really thinking they're going to have to make some sort of semi-big trade to thicken the top of/middle of the rotation or they're going to be hurting come summer.

Then again, it's early. I also don't think anyone should be to worried about Hughes. If the Yankees are already panicking, they can sure send him to the Padres :D

SaskatchewanChamp 04-09-2011 09:00 PM

Here we go bluejays here we go!!!

Droford 04-09-2011 10:53 PM

Really depressing split of the doubleheader. Britton was spectacular in the game one shutout and then the Os pitching took a huge dump on the mound in the 2nd and lost 13-1. Argh. Hope they win tomorrow to take 2 out of 3.

Skippord 04-09-2011 11:04 PM

Liked that move when your Rox signed him.

It's only the second full week, so I'm giving them a pass for now. But the Padres need to get the top of their lineup going at a .260/.350 batting average/OBP clip, or it's going to be a really long season.

Also, Venable (leadoff) and Headley (6th) really need to step it up this year. Especially Venable, who's 28 and is nearing arbitration time. Would want to get Tony Gwynn Jr'd and get non tendered. He's got speed and pop, but he needs to put it together this year or GTFO.

Droford 04-09-2011 11:16 PM

I would rather have Wigginton than Derrek Lee right now to be honest. Derrek Lee sucks..everyone else on the Os has been minimally acceptable or better so far.

I hope Derrek Lee blows and gets released mid year. He turned down what was reported to be a $10 million offer from the Padres, which, considering how much less he took from the O's, lead me to believe he would rather pad his stats than play for a team that has the pitching staff to win a division.

Wiggington, I think, is very underappreciated. I'd love for him to be with the Padres. Great depth guy that can plug in at more than one spot.

Skippord 04-09-2011 11:24 PM

I'm surprised at how good of a fielder he is, he's made some pretty great plays so far this year at third and has filled in pretty well at first the past few days.

Skippord 04-09-2011 11:24 PM

was also fairly surprised when I saw Venable was leading off for the Padres this year

figured he'd hit 5th or something.

Gertner 04-10-2011 01:01 AM

Edwin Encarnacion is an abortion.

Evil Vito 04-10-2011 01:17 AM

Yea, I don't like that move at all. Don't get me wrong, I like the potential he brings, but Venable doesn't have the patience, IMO, ot be a leadoff hitter. I think they went with the numbers he put up in that spot last year, but I though it was too small a sample size, and his overall numbers don't lie.

I'd rather have him batting 6th behind Ludwick and Hawpe, and put Headley at 3rd. Headley isn't much better, but I think he's a more "professional" at bat then Venable, and I think he is going to be a better hitter when it's all said and done.

Hopefully something is done in the coming months, because Hudson is not a 3 hitter. I'm sure he can do okay at the spot, but I'd rather have Bartlett hitting leadoff with Hudson to follow.

Gertner 04-10-2011 02:36 AM

Christ. Jays got hosed big time.
