Requiem 08-21-2011 05:03 PM

Finished the 1st book last night and started on the 2nd. Good stuff.

Requiem 09-16-2011 02:39 PM

Already about to finish the 3rd book. This book was fucking craaaazy. Can't even count the number of times I laughed out loud at something that happened/was said. Toward the end I was fucking glued to it. So happy when certain things happened, and legit surprised at certain things.

Fantastic book. Like 25 pages away from finishing it I think, and I already picked up the next one.

Requiem 09-17-2011 02:51 PM

So

SPOILER: show
Littlefinger is way more slick than I gave him credit for. Thought he was kind of predictable for a bit, but wow. Getting Lysa to poison Jon Arryn. Becoming a Lord and then going to the Vale and murdering her.

Also, Jon Snow is a BADASS. Knew he wouldn't take Stannis' offer to be Lord of Winterfell. He went through too much shit for his brothers to just turn his back on them. Alliser Thorne is a prick and I hope Jon Snow treats him as nice as he possibly can just to spite the fuck and make him feel bad for ever doubting him.

Samwell :y:

Arya killing bitches. She is going to be one COLD bitch by the time she's grown. Really liked all of her chapters. She has gone through one of the biggest transformations of all the characters, except maybe Daenerys, except she has sort of 'fallen into' her role now and hasn't changed a whole lot from the end of the first book.

Really liked Ser Barristan showing up to fight for her. Had been really disappointed that he hadn't shown up in the books after walking out of the King's Court, and then BOOM out of nowhere, he saves her life and Jorah realizes who he is. Good shit.

Also have no idea what Tyrion is going to do now that he has to run. Liked that Jaime released him. Lots of 'oh shit' moments in the 3rd book. It's great how the author manages to do things without them being predictable. Like, you legit have no idea what's going to happen.. like at the Frey's wedding. Knew shit was suspicious, especially with Grey Wind getting pissed the second they got there. But then shit just went down all at once, and people were dying. Robb and Catelyn. Was like OH SHIT WHAT?!?!!

Good stuff. One of my favorite series now. Book 4 has started off dreadfully slow so far. Didn't really give a shit about 'the prophet' or the 'captain of the guards' at all, but that's all I've read so far.

RoXer 09-17-2011 02:55 PM

I think there's a book thread

i guess he forgot he made that thread

Requiem 09-17-2011 03:09 PM

I remembered. But nobody used it. :( And this one was still on the front page.

G 09-17-2011 03:12 PM

how many books are in this series, and are they finished with it or making more

Requiem 09-17-2011 05:52 PM

5 books are currently out, 2 more are planned to 'finish' the series.

Buzzkill 09-26-2011 12:34 AM

Damn, just bought the first three. I have like 3670 pages to go now. Gonna take me like 5 months.

Has taken me like 3 days to get thru 180 pages of the first one.

Brigstocke 10-01-2011 02:09 PM

I've just finished 'A Feast for Crows' not as good as Storm of Swords in that not as much happens but I still cannot see an ending, I want this fictional world to be real and neverending.

Buzzkill, Theres something coming up soon that you will like about Varys. He's as slick as Littlefinger in some ways.

Requiem 10-01-2011 02:20 PM

I'm like 80 pages from finishing A Feast for Crows. Definitely not as good as the previous book, but I'm looking forward to the next to see what happens from the other perspectives.

Brigstocke 10-03-2011 07:12 AM

Just got a hardback copy of Dance with dragons, it's heavy as a Narcissus, I'll be able to legit do a 'gunshow' by the time I've finished this.

Requiem 10-03-2011 07:10 PM

Already really like the beginning of Dance. Also got the hardback, and wish the store had had hardbacks of all the rest so I'd have the whole collection in hardback. It is pretty nice.

VSG 10-21-2011 12:26 AM

I have finished the season, and here I am. Just popping in to say

Buzzkill 11-05-2011 08:03 PM

Season 2 casting: http://tvovermind.zap2it.com/cable/h...season-2/86984

Spoilers obviously

Notable omissions...
SPOILER: show
Hoster, Brynden and Edmure Tully...Apparently there is no Riverrun in the second season

Shaved Monkey 11-06-2011 01:46 PM

I really don't understand why they changed a couple of the characters. Even just minor things like a name.

Doesn't make sense to me.

If Alton Lannister takes the role of Cleos Frey, that would make sense

Slight spoilers for Season 2 (not really tho)

Buzzkill 11-21-2011 02:38 PM

Hearing them talk about the difficulties of creating so many new spaces makes the decision to cut out Riverrun more understandable...considering they need to build sets for
SPOILER: show
Harrenhal, Dragonstone, Storm's End, Pyke, The Fist, Craster's Keep, God's Eye, and Qarth...just off the top of my head.

Requiem 11-21-2011 02:38 PM

omgomgomgomg i want.

Also, I finished the current books. It is both awesome, and terrible that I have to wait about 7 years now to see this show/series finished. It was said by Martin that the 3rd book would likely be split into 2 seasons.

Buzzkill 11-21-2011 02:42 PM

Also looks like...

SPOILER: show
There's gonna be a lot of Robb in Season 2 despite not making any appearances in the book

Yeah I can't imagine them fitting all of Book 3 into a season...it would just be too much omfg packed into 10 episodes

Did DWD make up for the slog of AFfC?

Requiem 11-21-2011 03:58 PM

Yes, I really liked it. Not that I didn't like AFfC, as it introduced a lot of new perspectives and such. It was just slow, and it wasn't focused on the characters I wanted to hear about for the most part. DWD was a whole lot of what I wanted to read about.

Buzzkill 11-21-2011 03:59 PM

That is great news

Shaved Monkey 11-22-2011 10:59 AM

Yeah, DWD was pretty tremendous. In some of the books certain characters have a lot of chapters but they still feel kind of stagnant, but in DWD I thought that every chapter was actually moving the story forward in a significant way.

The next book better not take as long to come out as DWD did though.

Brigstocke 02-15-2012 04:12 PM

Just bought me a new T-Shirt.

Sahara Knite was an extra in this. She used to escort and pisses on people.

BigDaddyCool 03-23-2012 09:48 PM

Love this series. I got at stark coffee cup and a greyjoy custom title.

I'm up to the third book as well. Watching the bluray extras.

Requiem 03-23-2012 10:19 PM

Nice, didn't know you were into it.

Book 3 is incredible. Didn't know the bluray was out already.

I pre-ordered it, got the stark key chain. It is amazing. I finally bought a bluray player just for this tv show. I had a different, but I left it at my girlfriends house cause it was easier at the time, and all the blurays I own before GoT have dvd's with them. But I got tired of watching this at my gf's house because she won't sit down and watch the first episode with me, so I won't let her watch any of the later episodes.

Requiem 03-23-2012 10:42 PM

Why won't she? :'( It's really a fantastic series.

She wants to and would watch it over here. But if we are watching it at her house, her son would most likely come in and probably while there are tits on the screen.

Anyhow, I understand why they have to change things from book to screen, but I am disappointed the Hound doesn't get more play in the show.

MVP 03-26-2012 01:58 PM

Just started watching this show. Loving it so far.

The Destroyer 03-26-2012 02:02 PM

Looking forward to this coming back next week.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-26-2012 02:24 PM

Kinda forgotten some bits from season 1. Might have to rewatch if I get the chance, or maybe just hope my memory will be refreshed while watching.

XL 03-27-2012 06:10 AM

Think I'm gonna go buy the blu ray tomorrow. Don't really know all that much about the show but I've heard good things and at the bargain price of £25.50 for the HD discs, who can argue?

Corporate CockSnogger 03-27-2012 08:35 AM

Where's that from? Might pick them up myself.

VSG 03-27-2012 09:23 AM

In the time between the two seasons I read all 5 books and am an ardent fan now. Just wish I didn't have to wait another 2-3 years for the next book :'(
