As a devoted DC fan....I FUCKING LOVED THIS MOVIE

THEY KILLED IT!

Nowhere Man 08-02-2014 01:48 AM

This is hands-down my favorite movie of the year. I really don't see anything topping it.

Lock Jaw 08-02-2014 02:51 AM

So....

SPOILER: show
Howard the Duck is obviously Marvel's next movie franchise, right?

Also, pretty weird how Howard the Duck has now made the big screen twice, before Wonder Woman finally gets her big screen debut next year.

Kalyx triaD 08-02-2014 03:09 AM

Well to be fair between the cartoons and TV I'm betting Howard would still love to have a tenth of her fame.

Sixx 08-02-2014 04:35 AM

So about this post credits scene

SPOILER: show
Was Nathan Filion the voice of Howard the Duck or that Space Dog?

Rammsteinmad 08-02-2014 08:59 AM

Yeah Batista was actually surprisingly really good in this film. :y:

SPOILER: show
Apparently he was the voice of the prisoner Groot beat up by putting his "fingers" up his nose. Can't say I noticed by his voice and was waiting for a more noticeable cameo from him. Not that I'm complaining though, because...

This film was really effing great. So so so much fun.

SPOILER: show
Chris Pratt was brilliant. Love all his little nuances and how ungraceful he was during the big battles. Gave a lot more realism to the character. Groot was the star of most the battle scenes though in a Hulk-in-Avengers kinda way. But obviously Rocket was the star of all the dialogue. The whole "12% of a plan" scene was just hilarious. The film was very self aware, without going too far into parody territory. The scene of them dramatically walking towards the camera in a line while they adjust their pants, yawn, pick at their ears etc is a fine example of that. Ronan was a legit intimidating enemy and they showed just enough of Thanos to build him up, without ever delving too far into him to take away from when he eventually shows up full time in Avengers 3.

Just on the whole a really enjoyable film and I now love the characters, having not known much about them prior to this.

The Destroyer 08-02-2014 10:39 AM

Yeah that was really, really good. Definitely the most straight up "fun" movie Marvel have done so far.

And to think I was worried it would be a crappy disappointing flop.

What Iggy said. But apparently
SPOILER: show
Seth Green was the voice of Howard the Duck

dronepool 08-02-2014 11:08 AM

I was annoyed that they cast Batista but he was awesome. They gave him good lines and he delivered them well.

Rammsteinmad 08-02-2014 12:30 PM

Can we freely discuss this movie now? Or do we still need to use spoiler tags?

Kalyx triaD 08-02-2014 03:38 PM

Yeah, let it all out.

Lock Jaw 08-02-2014 10:06 PM

Most humorous part of the movie was Rocket asking for the dude's leg because he thought it would be funny... and then trying to do it again later on with another dude's eye.

Kalyx triaD 08-02-2014 10:28 PM

Wait til he meets the Winter Soldier.

Reavant 08-02-2014 11:23 PM

I loved when Groot skewered 5 guys, hulk smashed them into 10 others, bautista was cuming in his pants, quill was like WTF? and groot turned around and smiled like a kid haha

Destor 08-02-2014 11:42 PM

Rocket: [about Drax] Metaphors go over his head.
Drax the Destroyer: NOTHING goes over my head!... My reflexes are too fast, I would catch it.

Fignuts 08-03-2014 01:20 AM

Yeah Batista was gold. Pretty much everyone was great.

If anything, I'd say the villains were a bit one-dimensional, but it would have been way too hard to flesh them out and the gaurdians and still tell a good story within two hours, so it's forgivable. And they made up for it, by being completely believable as world wrecking badasses.

Kalyx triaD 08-03-2014 02:37 AM

Fucking Thanos, man.

slik 08-03-2014 02:38 AM

Just got back from it. Loved it. The most "fun" superhero flick ever made and really just visually stunning (the production design, costumes, make-up and special fx were all off the charts).

Ronan was a great villain, came across as a legit force, and Nebula was very impressive as well. Thanos intro was perfect.

Film was perfectly cast (including Batista). Soundtrack was amazing. So much fun.

Rammsteinmad 08-03-2014 09:26 AM

The Dance-Off bit when Quill is distracting Ronan is perfect by the way. Even Ronan's reaction is just incredible.

Corporate CockSnogger 08-03-2014 09:42 AM

I think the way all the action in the middle is bookended by the dance off at the end, and the dancing in the caves and using the little alien as a microphone at the start is absolutely perfect.

Also regardless of how old the joke is, I liked the "no raccoons or tree creatures were harmed in the making of this film" bit in the credits.

I was half expecting, even hoping a bit, that Ronan would actually accept the challenge.

THAT'S how much the movie kept me on my toes.

Ermaximus 08-03-2014 11:09 PM

Loved that Cosmo cameo.

Fignuts 08-04-2014 01:15 AM

Seriously, really hope Cosmo gets more than a cameo in the sequel.

Great that they acknowledged the Rocket rivalry.

SPOILER: show
Haven't been able to find a clear enough video to confirm, but word going round is that Howard the Duck is actually a distraction from whats behind him. An opened cocoon. Adam fucking Warlock in the house.

Kalyx triaD 08-04-2014 03:48 PM

Don't see why they'd make that so hard to spot. He's fairly important, moreso than being an extra hidden easter egg.

Corporate CockSnogger 08-04-2014 04:42 PM

Yessss. Baby Groot replica

Kinda want to wait for an inevitable dancing toy though. They have to make one, right?

He was shown at the end of Thor 2 as well.

So which gem was the orb?

Obviously the Tesseract was the Space Gem.
Loki had the Mind Gem on his staff in Avengers.
The Aether was the Power Gem.

Is the Orb the Soul Gem?

Tom Guycott 08-07-2014 12:50 AM

I saw this today. I, too, made a "Jackson Pollock". Just in my pants.

I was a little bit of a different beast here, because I had no clue coming in about Guardians, so I had no preconceived notions about what may get messed up except that they cast Bats... was worried from Wrong Side of Town and Riddick (you know... speaking roles. Man With The Iron Fists was okay, but he really didn't say shit in it) that he'd stink. Glad I was proven wrong.

It also (sort of) explained the corpse in Agents and kept hope alive that Sky is what I think she is.

Going by color, it would be the space gem.

http://cf.badassdigest.com/_uploads/...inity_Gems.jpg

They've been really vague, as far as what the power of each one is so far. Who freaking knows at this point?

The Destroyer 08-07-2014 01:33 AM

James Gunn's stated that the orb was the Power stone while some Marvel Studios guy said that the Tesseract is the Space stone.

Fignuts 08-07-2014 01:45 AM

Why are they bothering to give each one a distinct color if they aren't going to go by what they are in the comics.

Not a huge deal mind you, I just don't see the point in rearranging the colors. Seems like a change for change's sake.

Rammsteinmad 08-07-2014 05:08 AM

They're probably not giving them distinct powers like "space" and "mind" etc because it's too vague in terms of people following all the movies and knowing which is which. Damn, I only saw Thor: The Dark World when it was in theaters, and to be honest I've already forgotten most of what happened in that movie, so most fans and especially casual movie-goers aren't going to remember that "so-and-so had the so-and-so gem in this movie". Probably much easier just to consider them all "fucking powerful artifacts", and then if they really want to go into detail, do it in a film where, for example, Thanos has all seven of them and can give a brief exposition(?) of them all at once.

Shadow 08-08-2014 08:43 PM

Saw the movie yesterday. Second best Marvel movie. Right, like so close it can feel it's breath on the back of it's neck, behind Avengers. Just great all around fun from a cast of characters that there isn't too much backstory that people know. So they can fudge a few things. But god damn it was a fun ride.

And yeah, the Orb was Power. So far we've had Space(Tesserect), Mind(Loki's Staff), Reality(Aether), and now Power(Orb). All we're missing is Time and Soul and then Avengers 3 hits and it all comes together. ALSO! In a blink and you'll miss it moment we did kinda get a hint at Soul.
SPOILER: show
In the Collector's Collection is Adam Warlock in his caccoon so we could be getting Soul very soon.

I can't wait to see what they do next.
