Actually...

All these videos online of people making custom sensor bars with IR LEDS and candles are pretty hilarious to me.

If you're on about using the Gamecube controllers in Wii games you won't be able to unless otherwise specified. Like you won't be able to play with the GC control pad just because you want to.

Some games, like Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, will use the GC controllers I'm told, or the classic controller.

I'm not to up on Wireless internet, so I'll ask a few questions:

I also have the WiFi USB adapter that I use with my DSlite, so I'm guessing it will work exactly the same with the Wii as it does with the DS. I turn on my PC etc, put the WiFi adapter in, the Nintendo WiFi thing opens up and gives me a wireless connection to whatever game. Because I'm looking into setting up a Wireless connection in my house so I can access the net functions on the Wii, but If I can do it with the WiFi adapter I might not bother.

Also, whats the range, like will I be able to connect from a room directly above the room with my PC in.

Lots of questions, but its the only aspect I'm not 100% clear on with the Wii right now.

For the wireless internet, you open the utility on your computer, run the test connection thing on the Wii, and it works. I wouldn't say it will work from a floor to the other, but it does work from one end of my room to the other end, which is about 10 feet or so. I really don't know what's the maximum distance.

V 11-25-2006 03:23 PM

i think maximum distance depends on the router, not the wii

St. Jimmy 11-25-2006 04:23 PM

Spend 20 bucks and get the Classic Wii Controller. Similar to an SNES controller with Analog Sticks. Totally amazing.

DS 11-25-2006 04:24 PM

You should be fine on the distance. You can get a pretty good distance on wireless routers today but the worst things that hinder their performance are obstacles like walls and floors. But if you are only going through one thing you should be just fine.

I still have to disagree with nintendo, The wii controller is fine but they should have also shipped the classic controler so developers wouldn't be scarred away.

Scared away? Hell, most of the major devs are setting up new units purely because of the Wii!

Anyways, leaving now to hit the pub and in about 2 and a half hours pick up my Wii.

Stupid UK getting it later...

The classic controller is mainly for nostalgia purposes (Very much like the SNES controller), playing virtual games, and for some Wii games. I heaed Super Smash Bros will use the classic controller because the Wiimote didn't work to well with it.

Why buy the Wii if you only want to use the classic controller?

Joey Slugs 12-07-2006 08:24 PM

Quick ?: Do you HAVE to use the motion controller for the games or could you use the "classic" one for everything?

You have to you the motion controller for the games. Classic controller is used for virtual counsel games(or you can use the motion controller or gamecube for some of the VC games). Also rumors that new Smash Bros. game will use either classic of gamecube; however nothing officially has been announced on that.

DS 12-08-2006 12:04 AM

Some games allow for GC/classic controllers but most just use the Wiimote. It says on the top right corner on the back of the case.

Picked up my PAL Wii this morning. It's awesome, I love it, fuck you Sony.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2006 08:24 PM

With it's premium price tag and audacious business schemes; Sony been said "Fuck you, too."
