But didn't:cool: Fuckin Bobby Abreu has been solid gold for us so far, good to have Cano back as well:y: Lets hope Mussina can carry on doin what he's done all year tonight, Vazquez was good in his last start but i dunno, he's hardly been consistent the last few years since he was with us.

BCWWF 08-10-2006 02:35 PM

There was a stat in our paper today...

Last season, White Sox record when scoring four runs or less: 31-32
This season, White Sox record when scoring four runs or less: 16-30
(Numbers may vary, but you get the point)

The AL picture could be changed quite a bit in the next week or two, and what I primarily mean is that if the White Sox slip up, they will fall out of it. They basically need to win tonight, because next up is three games with Detroit, four with Kansas City, and then 10 straight games against either the Twins or the Tigers.

FakeLaser 08-10-2006 03:07 PM

We have kind of been owning everybody lately.

ct2k 08-10-2006 03:27 PM

We've not got an easy month ahead:-\

BCWWF 08-10-2006 03:57 PM

Yankees:
Angels
Orioles
Red Sox
Mariners
Angels
Tigers

Red Sox:
Orioles
Tigers
Yankees
Angels
Mariners
A's

White Sox:
Tigers
Royals
Twins
Tigers
Twins
Devil Rays

Twins:
Blue Jays
Indians
White Sox
Orioles
White Sox
Royals

So all four have a pretty tough end of the month. Realistically I think at least one of these teams will have falled 4+ games back by September, by the looks of the schedules Boston and Chicago look to be in for the hardest.

The Miz 08-10-2006 08:46 PM

Wow, I just realized how truly awful Cleveland have been this year. One series win since May

Still feel Hafner's more valuable than Ortiz?

The Miz 08-10-2006 09:46 PM

Better, not more valuable. Not Hafner's fault the team sucks. I never said he was more valuable

Ruby 08-10-2006 10:42 PM

Fair point.

BCWWF 08-11-2006 12:05 AM

There was a stat in the newspaper today that said something like Ortiz has had 18 walk-off opportunities this season. Of those eighteen, he got on base 15 times and ended the game seven. The numbers might be slightly off, but the point gets across. Clutch.

Ruby 08-11-2006 12:17 AM

BCWWF, your Twins didn't fare too well tonight against the Jays. I caught a bit of that game on TV and they were shut down tonight. Are the Twins in a slump right now or are the Jays just that good?

The Miz 08-11-2006 12:55 AM

I just realized how retarded the MLB "seeding" is. Like how the team with the best record plays the team with the worst record not in their division. So say Detroit had 110 wins, Oakland and New York had 100, and Minnesota sneaks in with like 85; Detroit would have to play NY/OAK. I don't know when they invented this rule, probably because they didn't want Yankees/Red Sox in the first round but it's pretty gay. Every other sport it's best vs. worst, second-best vs. second-worst, etc.

The Miz 08-11-2006 01:12 AM

lol even though they just swept the Red Sox the Royals are seriously the worst team ever. How do you score 2 runs from 9 doubles and a homer?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-11-2006 01:14 AM

Well NBA used to have the 4 division winners be the top 4 seeds in the playoffs, even if another team from a different division had a better record. They are changing that up for the upcoming season though because the Mavs and Spurs ended up playing in the 2nd round of the playoff this past season because of it.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-11-2006 01:15 AM

Also I didn't watch any of the Red Sox game tonight, I saw that new Will Ferrel movie. Looks like I made the right choice :-\

BCWWF 08-11-2006 01:26 AM

On Tuesday night, I was telling my friends how cool it would be if the Royals pulled what they did a few years ago, where they randomly swept the Yankees. In all honesty I was hoping the Royals could maybe win one game, but that was huge. Now the Yankees are within one run, maybe keep the wildcard lead for another day.

I didn't see any of the game tonight, but from what I can gather things broke down for Silva in the sixth or seventh and the offense was never really there, although Morneau missed an opportunity. We'll hopefully take 2 of 3 though.

YOUR Hero 08-11-2006 10:45 AM

Jays will sweep the Twins.

YOUR Hero 08-11-2006 10:47 AM

In fact the Jays will not lose another game all year.

The Miz 08-11-2006 11:26 AM

Chacin: 10.13 ERA in four AAA rehab starts :(

Gertner 08-11-2006 11:44 AM

Lilly finally pitches good on the road. Hell froze over

ct2k 08-11-2006 01:23 PM

Errors cost us the game vs the Sox last night but it could be worse, Boston getting swept by KC = ouch:-\

LOL found your way back I see...

The Miz 08-11-2006 05:45 PM

Indians designate Guillermo Mota for assignment

Damn that Paul DePodesta for trading him and two other mediocre players for one of the best starters in the NL! Ned Colleti 4 life!

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-11-2006 07:11 PM

I wonder if the Red Sox will be interested, can't be much worse than Tavarez/Seanez

The Miz 08-11-2006 07:27 PM

I'd think after realizing how rare it is for a successful NL middle reliever to succeed in the AL (IE: Tavarez and Seanez), the Red Sox would try something different

FakeLaser 08-11-2006 08:14 PM

You'd think that, but it will probably happen.

Or the Yankees will pick him up.

YOUR Hero 08-11-2006 11:52 PM

August 11 and AJ Burnett wins his first road game of the season.

BCWWF 08-12-2006 01:58 AM

I barely watched the game tonight (on TV at a restuarant) but the Jays should sweep the Twins, unless Boof comes out. I was really hoping that Garza would be one of those guys who comes up and dominates right off the bat, but he's got some more work. I think he throws too many fastballs, and he will enjoy a spot in the bullpen with Matt Guerrier replacing Liriano for now.

As for the White Sox, I think they might be back. If they can get through this next stretch of theirs on top or close to the top, the Twins and Red Sox can play for second place.

OssMan 08-12-2006 03:57 AM

AHAH i went to see the mets do batting practice today and i went to like the front row right near the plate and after like 30 minutes Tim Kurkjian walked out and started talking to david wright, then he started walking over near us and this guy yelled "the mets going all the way?" and Tim Kurkian just put his arms up like "i dont know!" with his eyes really wide. plus he is like 5 foot 4 LOL

ct2k 08-12-2006 07:09 AM

I dunno about the White Sox quite yet, Contreras is only one guy, the other 4 potential 15 game-winners have to come through too, Garcia and Beurhle have both been pretty rocky recently and Garland is coming off a horrible start too.

Apparently Sheff is spending batting practice at 1st right now to get a feel for the position. There's talk of him and Giambi possibly splitting time between DH and 1B next year.

I know Sheffield is expensive but man, he's such a great weapon to have if he's healthy, hell he produced 35 HR 120 RBI with a wrecked shoulder in 2004. Plus imagine:

C Posada
1B/DH Sheffield
1B/DH Giambi
2B Cano
SS Jeter
3B Rodriguez
RF Abreu
CF Damon
LF Matsui

With Cairo, Williams, Phillips and Wilson on the bench?!

Man that'd be ridiculous

LOL. I wonder who has been to more Madonna concerts, Carl or Ozzie?

ct2k 08-12-2006 12:56 PM

No excuse for him to make those kinda remarks as it obviously puts heat on him, but really who was the twat heckling him? Its a rule in America i guess, you can dish it out forever, especially to a famous person, but them being famous means them doing anything in retaliation is totally uncalled for and worthy of compensation:|

Loose Cannon 08-12-2006 01:40 PM

I forgot Pavano was a Yankee

YOUR Hero 08-12-2006 03:27 PM

Put Houston (or maybe Colorado) in the AL West division. If it were Houston then that's all that needs doing. That way you've got 6 divisions with 5 teams each. You'd also then have 15 NL and AL teams. If it were Colorado then move Houston into the the NL west division to once again even things out.
Don't you guys think there should be some sort of fun-schway in the divisions like that?

The Miz 08-12-2006 03:31 PM

15 teams in each league leaves 2 teams (1 in each league) without a team to play
