Reportedly for about $8M/year... not a bad signing, considering I've been hearing stuff like Benjamin possibly getting $7M. I'll take Jones at that price

road doggy dogg 03-09-2016 09:52 AM

@ABT water your thoughts on Marvin Jones.... I like him but that could just be "misguided fantasy hype"

He played well but the defense gave up 30+ points in both of the games he started. Once they changed QBS the away from Weedon the offense fell apart. They started losing to scrub teams.

Same fans who were on Reese for not spending anything are now complaining that he overpayed

Evil Vito 03-09-2016 02:06 PM

You pretty much have to overpay in the NFL, especially if you've been shit the last few years. That's how free agency is designed.

The real key to winning is always to build through the draft, get a young core going that way and try to win a title while many of your top guys are in their cheap 4 year rookie contract (see: the Seattle Seahawks).

But since Reese is a fucking imbecile when it comes to anything past the first round of the draft leaving the Giants devoid of depth, we now have to rely on free agents.

Evil Vito 03-09-2016 02:27 PM

Jaguars sign punter Brad Nortman to a 4-year deal. Only noteworthy because Nortman came into the league the same year as Bryan Anger, a punter who the Jaguars had drafted in the 3rd round and who is now a free agent.

Only the Jaguars could invest a high round pick in a position like punter and manage to not even draft a good one.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Jg34Nxb_Vjs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

I don't want Colin Kaepernick and all his tattoos. There's gotta be someone else out there.

ClockShot 03-09-2016 04:07 PM

Case Keenum sounds like a better idea.

Evil Vito 03-09-2016 04:30 PM

Osweiler seems like a big dummy. Turning down the chance to be the starting QB on a team that just won the fucking Super Bowl and should still have a really good defense?

I mean surely the Texans didn't offer THAT much more.

road doggy dogg 03-09-2016 04:31 PM

Didn't Denver offer 4y/$60M? Or something like that. Basically getting $3M more/year, doesn't seem worth it to go from Denver to Houston imo

Emperor Smeat 03-09-2016 05:35 PM

Wonder if Peyton's late season antics and dragging the retirement decision played a role in Brock leaving.

Texans do have a really good defense and were very similar to the Broncos last season in how much they carried the team. The main difference being Texans QBs awfulness managed to be stronger than their defense.

Emperor Smeat 03-09-2016 06:05 PM

Supposedly violated the rules in 2015 with the signing of Jeremy Maclin but took about a year for the NFL to find enough evidence or be confident enough to hand out the punishment. Also fined the Chiefs $250k, Andy Reid $75k, and John Dorsey $25K.

No way was Houston's defense close to Denver. Houston had the privilege of playing in the worst division in the league.

owenbrown 03-09-2016 06:38 PM

So the Titans got:
former Texans center Ben Jones

Demarco Murray from the Eagles in a trade while swapping 4th round draft picks

interesting

Innovator 03-09-2016 06:51 PM

Jerry Reese dealing today

Evil Vito 03-09-2016 07:28 PM

Vernon got more guaranteed money than JJ Watt, but that's the nature of NFL free agency. Fucking love the moves today.

Evil Vito 03-09-2016 07:28 PM

Admittedly though they might want to start planning now for the OBJ cap hit in 2 years. Gonna be insane.

Crimson 03-09-2016 07:41 PM

Lol can anyone find the bit where ESPN fell for the fake Glazer tweet on a free agent signing? Can't find it.

ClockShot 03-09-2016 07:50 PM

Ugh. Broncos lose Danny Trevathan. He's going to Chicago.

Guy was a bulldog. Loved him.

Hoping Elway is gonna keep the more of the core players around.

Broncos, Jets, and Browns all interested in making a potential trade to get Colin Kaepernick. Been rumored the 49ers want at least a 1st Rd pick for any deal.

Jets already considering the strong possibility Ryan Fitzpatrick is leaving which is why they want Kaepernick for Plan B.

ClockShot 03-10-2016 06:26 PM

Dolphins sign C.J. Anderson to a 4 year deal. But Denver has a chance to match it.

Miami grabs our RB again.

owenbrown 03-10-2016 07:55 PM

What the fuck are the Broncos doing? This is like when both times the Marlins won the World Series I think they pretty much dismantled the team.

Evil Vito 03-10-2016 08:11 PM

This always happens in the NFL. Impending free agents on a Super Bowl winning team are always bound to get paid big time.

Emperor Smeat 03-10-2016 08:12 PM

Something like this was probably going to happen regardless of a title or not. Too many quality or high priced players they've stockpiled the past couple of years and now are at the point where they can't keep them without causing more future cap strain.

The Von Miller situation was going to cost them a couple of good players while Elway hinting he wants cheaper deals made probably going to cost them a few more in the end.

Elway, what the fuck? The tattooed man, Robert Griffin the has-been, and Ryan "The Beard" Fitzpatrick were all out there. 2/3 legit options (RG3 is either a boom or bust at this point), all could use a fresh start.

And you go and trade for the artist formally known as The Sanchise?

Yes they are. Tell me, who's a QB out there RIGHT NOW who's gonna take this team back to the Super Bowl? Sure as hell ain't Johnny Rehab. If Elway was gonna go this route, I would have asked Matt Hasselbeck if he wants one more go.

God damn. When I saw this news on my phone, I was literally gonna be sick.

My only hope is that Elway pulls a Brian Cashman and does some sneaky move to get a name in before the season starts. Because I don't think ANYBODY wants to come play in Denver with Mark (hey I got to a couple championship games with the Jets) Sanchez at the wheel.

C.J. Anderson should just go to Miami now.

Vito, Amukamura is coming to Jax. Thoughts on his play? I think he's good if he can stay on the field.

Evil Vito 03-12-2016 10:33 AM

He's a good player, but he's just injury prone as fuck. That he only got a one year deal in this market is likely due in no small part to the fact that he missed 13 games over the last 2 seasons.

Nice guy though, hopefully he plays well and can cash in again next year.

ClockShot 03-12-2016 04:01 PM

DeMarcus Ware takes a pay cut and agrees to a restructured deal to say in Denver.

Love ya, man. Bright spot to end the week from a sad start.

Evil Vito 03-12-2016 05:10 PM

Agents are being told to reject all contracts from the Rams at the moment, as the contracts all say

“The parties hereto acknowledge that this Player Contract has been negotiated and executed in Missouri; that should any dispute, claim or cause of action (collectively ‘dispute’) arise concerning rights or liabilities arising from the relationship between the Player and the Club, the parties hereto agree that the law governing such dispute shall be the law of the State of Missouri. Furthermore, the exclusive jurisdiction for resolving Workers’ Compensation related claims shall be the Division of Workers’ Compensation of Missouri, and the Missouri Workers’ Compensation Act shall govern.”

California has a much more pro-employee stance when it comes to things like worker's comp claims, so they were trying to avoid their contracts being governed by those laws. Just in case you had forgotten that Kroenke was a piece of shit.

Emperor Smeat 03-12-2016 05:41 PM

How could that even hold up in court if nothing about the team is based in Missouri anymore?

Could see if it was a temporary thing because all the legal paperwork for the moving isn't done yet or something like the Giants/Jets operating in two states but neither is the case with the Rams.

Emperor Smeat 03-13-2016 07:21 PM

Quote:

The Broncos have reached out to free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick's representatives, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, though Denver currently is unwilling to pay the salary that the quarterback is seeking.
Probably needs to hope the Jets find a way to keep Fitz or else they could also lose out on Robert Griffin III since the Jets are really interested in getting him.

Ruien 03-13-2016 09:54 PM

I know Fitz had a decent year but he can't be asking for that much money right? Dude was a bum for so many years. What the heck is he thinking?

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-14-2016 01:15 AM

Last best chance to get paid. Number of teams need a QB and he had a decent year with a not so decent team.

Evil Vito 03-14-2016 02:07 PM

Emperor Smeat 03-15-2016 12:13 AM

Two big things happened recently in the NFL.

The first being the NFL admitted for the first time there are legit medical links between CTE and football. Previously the NFL would downplay the claims and/or fund pro-NFL research to disprove any definitive links between the two.
Quote:

The other being the NFL and NFLPA are currently working on a deal that would reduce the commish's power for disciplinary cases. Although talks are at a very early stage and the union hinted actual change won't be happening soon.
Quote:

The NFL and NFL Players Association are making progress toward a deal that would strip commissioner Roger Goodell of disciplinary power when it comes to off-the-field infractions by players, union executive director DeMaurice Smith told The Wall Street Journal.

"We've been talking about changes to the personal conduct policy since October and have traded proposals," Smith told The Wall Street Journal. "We looked at the league's proposal for neutral arbitration. There is a common ground for us to get something done."

If the Chiefs' rule proposal had been on the books at the time, Manning would have been penalized for an illegal forward pass. In the proposal, the Chiefs reasoned that defenders "let up" when they see a quarterback on the ground. As the rule stands, according to the Chiefs, quarterbacks have an incentive to "play dead" to give their team an advantage.

Ejections for two personal fouls in a game rule ended up getting passed by the NFL's competition committee for vote during the upcoming owners meetings. Proposal itself got water downed on what counts towards the ejection requirement for fouls though.

I don't think the owners want their players off the field.

The Ravens want eligible players to have to wear vests over their jerseys to indicate theyre elligible. I know the refs fucked the Ravens over twice in those calls but that has no chance of happening and is honestly stupid.

Ravens still crying about big bad Billy

Why is it that QBs inspire these new rules?

Droford...criticizing the Ravens? Move the Doomsday Clock to 11:58.

The Colts had already said that nobody would wear #18 again after Peyton left the team, but now Irsay made the number retirement official and a statue will be built outside of Lucas Oil Stadium.
