Also, if ESPN is like Sky over here, the schedule for the entire year is set out before the season starts, they only tend to change them when there are rain-outs etc. And lets face it, nobody expected the Tigers to be as good as they have. Plus over here we've really had as many CWS games as we have Yankee or Red Sox ones. We're getting the Tigers/Red Sox tomorrow night, should be good:y:

ESPN and Fox move games around all the time. Nothing is set in stone.

The Miz 08-15-2006 05:46 PM

Who laughed at you? I remember you saying you read that they had the best, which is a joke. They're good, but not even close to the level of LAD, LAAA and ARI

And what's so great about Hansen and Sanchez?

ct2k 08-15-2006 05:59 PM

What was the trade that sent Hanley Ramirez to the Marlins then?

The Miz 08-15-2006 06:00 PM

Lowell, Beckett, Mota for Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and some other Hispanic pitcher

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 06:01 PM

While looking for the post where I posted about the Red Sox farm system (I thought I said top 10, maybe I said #1, if I did I was OD'ing on hype or something) I came across this post

They used to have a promotion at the Kingdome where you got in free if you shaved your head like Buhner. I never did it but it made me realize how gross bald chicks are.

Buhner is awesome though. 3rd favorite M of all time.

And don't talk shit about Ichiro. He is the man.

Always clutch in the playoffs?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 06:02 PM

Jesussssssssssssssss Delgado

ct2k 08-15-2006 06:02 PM

Looks like we've got some good pitching prospects at the moment. The one guy who's a walking hype machine, Phillips is it? Everybody wanted him come trade deadline, luckily Cashman told them to fuck off:y: Hope to see him come up in the next few years, if he does anywhere near as good a job as Andy Pettitte did for us he'llve been well worth keeping, i just hope the hype doesn't blow too far out of proportion (fat chance)

The Miz 08-15-2006 06:04 PM

Guess opinions aren't allowed to change

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 06:04 PM

He was the other person in the Beckett/Lowell trade

Sox then sent Mota, Andy Mart and Kelly Shoppach (he's in the majors now too, could really use him right now) for Coco Crisp

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 06:08 PM

Kinda surprised the Red Sox traded Shoppach because now they have no real catching prospect in the minors but they got Josh Bard in return I guess, probably didn't suspect he'd have no chance of catching the knukle ball.

And I guess opinions are allowed to change when the guy being called clutch is not on your favorite team.

The Miz 08-15-2006 06:11 PM

LOL. Yeah man that's it. I'm just an Ortiz hater, it has nothing to do with that I did alot of sabermetric reading and research since the time of that post. Willie Bloomquist for MVP

The Miz also thought wins and batting average were good stats at one time. Kinda hard not to when any time you watch any baseball on TV the commentators act like they are. I no longer think Buhner is a clutch hitter if that makes you happy

ct2k 08-15-2006 06:17 PM

I think Joe Morgan said clutch atleast 6 times on sunday night

ct2k 08-15-2006 06:20 PM

Howcome we never debate clutch pitching?

My head might explode.

Serious.

Clutch picthing is even more impossible than clutch hitting.

ct2k 08-15-2006 06:29 PM

Bottom of the 9th, runners on the corners, no outs, David Ortiz at the plate with newly acquired Vladimir Guerrero on deck and Manny in the hole here at Fenway, game 7 of the Fall Classic

RoXer 08-15-2006 06:37 PM

JAY BUHNER

Still not following....

ct2k 08-15-2006 06:42 PM

Would it help if i said the pitcher on the mound was none other than POTENTIAL 20 GAME WINNER FREDDY GARCIA?!!!!!!1

BCWWF 08-15-2006 07:28 PM

Flip Flopper

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-15-2006 07:36 PM

Changing your mind is alright, but getting upset when somebody says the samething you said 13 months ago is kind of weak. Especially when you do shit like "OMGOMG HIT IN THE 9TH INNING HES SO CLUTCH"

ct2k 08-15-2006 07:44 PM

lol, remember John Rocker?

The Miz 08-15-2006 07:46 PM

Why is it weak? The only people I ever "get upset" at are the ones who say shit like "Well ARod really had a great year, but Ortiz is just so clutch it puts him over the top". Even when I believed in clutch hitting I would never consider Buhner or anybody else better than another player solely due to clutchness.

Actually scratch all that I'm just a Mariners homer, evidenced by all my posts in this thread about them and all my praise for their players.

ct2k 08-15-2006 08:01 PM

If being a stand up guy and good influence in the team isn't considered valuable then i don't see why being clutch should be. MVP is based on stats pure and simple, Ortiz will win this year because of his stats, as will Thome if he wins, despite the fact that the White Sox have produced SHITloads of runs anyway this year and the fact that he doesn't play defense

OssMan 08-15-2006 10:30 PM

REYES!!! 3-3, 3 HR 1 from each side of the plate

YOUR Hero 08-15-2006 11:51 PM

As I predicted, my Jays are raising. They will never lose another game this entire decade.

Miz, don't get so wrapped up in this sabermetric stuff. The game is not simply a sum of it's numbers, there are a lot of factors.. People still have emotions and perform better or worst or the same in certain situations. Also being clutch does not mean you come through everytime as you seem to insinuate I/we mean when we talk about it.

The Miz 08-16-2006 12:06 AM

You don't know what sabermetrics are.

FakeLaser 08-16-2006 01:10 AM

Pretty incredible game tonight. A-Rod sucked big time though. OH WELL, up 3 games now. Also, Johnny Damon pretty much owned.

lol.

And Thome is not even near the top player statistically. Maybe in HR, but there is more than one player who is better than him in multiple stats, including RBI, AVG and OBP.

BCWWF 08-16-2006 01:21 AM

That means there are certain players who are higher than him in all of those categories, fyi.

Also, Joe Nathan gave up a run in a non-save situation, again.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-16-2006 01:29 AM

Fuckin Red Sox...Schilling goes 7 innings and only gives up 2 runs and they still lose..........fuck

SammyG 08-16-2006 01:30 AM

Dodgers.

I love it, Go Tigers.

Poor Placido though :(

Joey Slugs 08-16-2006 02:14 AM

Cubs and Astros are still going...

6-6 in the bottom of the 17th (@ 12:17am CST)

JohnnyDrama 08-16-2006 03:19 AM

Reds come out in the first game of a huge series against the Cards and lay an absolute egg. Carpenter owned us. But the Reds didn't help themselves much by starting Clayton and LaRue instead of Aurilla and Ross. Hope they come to play tomorrow with a better lineup behind Bronson, he's got to win his 10th game sometime, right?

DaveWadding 08-16-2006 05:04 AM

According to RotoWorld, Shawn Green is willing to waive his no trade clause to play for the Mets.

ct2k 08-16-2006 07:46 AM

And just like that its 3 games again! I think it's fair to say (so far) Bobby Abreu hasn't had any trouble adjusting to the AL.

Also, 2 games in hand on Boston, not sure when they'll be made up but man thats fuckin helpful

FakeLaser 08-16-2006 02:52 PM

Abreu should have had that ball at the wall last night.

Made up for it with his beastly arm though.

This weekend is going to be huge. 5 games in 4 days vs. Boston. I feel like A-Rod can turn things around in this series. If he gets some big hits his confidence will be restored.

ct2k 08-16-2006 02:59 PM

I think ARod is just struggling all around this season, its not just defense, he's also been patchy with his offense too but I think he'll pick it up down the stretch, the guy's a class act on the field generally regardless of what a tit he is with the media.

ct2k 08-16-2006 03:01 PM

But considering the performances we've gotten out of Damon, Jeter, Giambi, Cano, Posada and now Abreu it's not exactly a big issue. Also A-Rod is hardly putting up bad numbers, they're just not the ridunculous ones we're used to.

FakeLaser 08-16-2006 03:04 PM

It's more his defense than anything. His offensive numbers aren't bad. He chokes, but not as much as people lead on, it just appears that he does more because every time he fucks up he gets booed and gets shit for it.

Last night he got probably the loudest ovation of all when introduced. The fans want him to do well. He got booed out of the building after the error, strikeout and popout though. If he doesn't perform he gets booed. Not too encouraging. What he needs is some big hits against Boston or a ring. Then he'll be fine.
