Didn’t he drop the title like 2 months later anyway? It’s probably for the best that that “crowning moment” is forgettable in hindsight.

Triple H has all the power to try to properly build up a true star the way he wants before using the credibility Reigns has built to crown them. If he just uses it for another go with Drew, those Vince 2.0 vibes are gonna hit quick.

XL 09-01-2022 05:01 PM

First run he dropped it after 7 months, regained it less than a month later and held it another 3 months.

I still don’t think he wins but I’m less certain now. Probably some screwy finish with Tyson Fury involved somehow.

Lock Jaw 09-01-2022 06:32 PM

No one cares about Drew. They should stop trying to make Drew happen.

Mr. Nerfect 09-01-2022 07:24 PM

Drew is a fine choice. There are plenty of things you can do with it. He’s far from the most dynamic pro-wrestler of all-time, but he’s really, really good. If you want people to care about him you better have some sort of plan of what to do with him whether he wins or loses.

I think the call is to have Drew win, but have it be screwy. Protect Reigns (yeah, he’s the heel, but he’s also a star). It will feel more exciting. Karrion Kross tries to get involved, knocks out referee. Riddle cancels out Kross (he wants Drew to win), Shane McMahon runs down in a referee’s shirt and helps Drew get the quick pin.

At Extreme Rules you can run Drew vs. Kross vs. Riddle and Reigns vs. Shane. Something totally different.

I could have swore he dropped it quicker to Orton. Maybe I’m thinking of someone else who had a big title win and then instantly got their momentum killed.

As far as the match, it’s one of those “If any result is bad then just don’t book the match” situations. He absolutely shouldn’t be the one to beat Reigns but how do you not end this big show on a shit note if Drew doesn’t win? A simple post-match beat down isn’t gonna cut it.

#1-norm-fan 09-01-2022 10:49 PM

Oh man. Just thought of a horrible scenario where they try to execute a “win/win”. Drew wins, gets the huge extended celebration, crowd goes nuts, they go home happy...

And then the decision is reversed on Raw after it’s discovered Roman’s shoulder was up so his reign remains uninterrupted. lol

Agreed. I’m no Triple H fan. Almost all the guys he pushed in NXT are the sorts of guys he wouldn’t have been caught dead working with. His boutique product was designed to get himself over. I’ve always questioned how he would actually handle the main roster. And I’ve got some criticisms of his approach so far.

That being said, if you want to talk about spin, look at the desperate measures AEW and its fans go to trying to turn 1 million viewers on TBS into some sort of win. You’ve got carnies both side.

Change “a bit of a dink” to “big fucking idiot” and “AEW could be better” to “AEW isn’t good at all” and I’ll still keep giving my premium opinion. But at least you’ll be honest and up to speed.

To you. There’s a large portion of fans that want Bray back. I could do without Braun and Rowan being there personally.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2022 05:54 PM

Not knocking you like it’s your preferred booking, XL. Just the potential reality of the idea.

If there’s somewhere to debut Bray, because you HAVE to — have him do something The Judgment Day once they are done with Edge & Rey. Dominik’s turned heel and they’re all in the ring. Bray comes out and hugs Balor. Or something.

On Clash: I’m surprised that AJ Styles doesn’t have a match. He won the WWE Title there a few years ago. I’m not saying it was a MASSIVE moment or anything, but it would have been nice to see them cultivate that appeal. That’s why I had Lashley vs. Miz vs. Styles vs. Omos on my card for it. They get AJ, Lashley who is also a huge babyface and someone to see live, The Miz who’s one of their stars and Omos as a spectacle. Ciampa can run interference. Dexter Lumis could get involved and take Styles out. Ciampa can run off MVP and Lashley can beat Miz for the finish.

Those people can’t wipe their own asses. Bray’s been pretty consistently horrible. I get why they want to try and course correct their failed projects, and he’s a big part of their dark years, it’s just so many steps backwards.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2022 06:02 PM

For the record, I think Bray and Braun will both be back. There will be the idea to get all their former pushed guys back. Bray moved merch too, so the change in management will be seen as a fresh slate for him. Hell, I can see them going back for Bo Dallas too, should he be open to a return (he’s only 32). I DON’T think it’ll happen at Clash at the Castle though. I think Bray gets weeks and weeks of vignettes. I could see the show closing with something from Bray — like a Michael Cole sounds off, we go to a dark room kind of thing.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2022 06:09 PM

I’m still feeling the title change for Drew. I just can’t see the UK guy not winning. I think it’ll be met with controversy, but I see them going for the hot finish. I can unfortunately see Braun getting involved in that. Karrion Kross pulls out the referee on a Claymore. Knocks out the ref. Riddle runs down and takes out Kross. Braun’s music hits, he comes down, Powerslam to Roman. Drew wins. The sword is dangled that the other referee will try and reverse the decision, do a Dusty — or that they’ll use this to try and separate the belts. Nothing comes of that.

If the referee is “new” and someone that can work, that could be good for eventually getting them involved in the story when they don’t reverse the decision. They can become a target for The Bloodline. If he wasn’t released, someone like Trent Seven would be good for this.

Surprise ending

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2022 06:24 PM

Full show predictions:

* Balor & Priest beat Edge & Rey. It’s predictable, I’m not a fan of the idea, but I think they’re going to have Dominik turn heel and join Judgment Day. That seems to be the only reason he’s out there. I like the idea of Edge wanting to kill Dominik and Rey trying to stop him. I hope Heyman can steer this in the right direction. Pretty funny that Buddy Matthews used to bang Aaliyah Mysterio in the story, and now Dominik is going to kayfabe get with Buddy’s gf.

* I’m increasingly optimistic that Shayna might beat Liv Morgan for the SD Women’s Title. Liv can still hover around the title scene with Shayna and Ronda there.

* Gunther beats Sheamus in a fucking banger.

* Matt Riddle beats Seth Rollins in another fucking banger.

* Damage Ctrl defeats Bianca, Asuka and Alexa because it’s the right thing to do.

* Drew wins the belts.

100%

He was on that Weakest Link show, and kept voting Booker as the Weakest link JUST because HHH didnt want to put Booker over, even there!

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-02-2022 09:27 PM

But you better believe he condescendingly pretended to like Booker backstage.

HHH confirmed the much talked about Lesnar walk out and return when Vince was fired in his interview the the MMA fella.

Where’s that? I can only find him saying there’s “some truth” to it because Brock wanted to digest the change in management.

What Triple H said about Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman gives me hope. He didn’t flat-out dismiss either guy, but basically said Braun was polarizing and that if he wants to do this at the highest of levels, he’d give him another look. That reads to me like “sort your shit out, go to Japan, don’t fuck up, maybe one day.” Bray seemed more 50/50, but Trips did imply that Bray was his own worst enemy.

Hopefully they’re both off the radar for the time being.

Braun also posted a picture of himself in a CYN singlet and he looks so jacked that I don’t think he’d pass the Wellness policy.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2022 11:49 PM

Meanwhile he is definitely trying to court Sasha Banks back into their camp.

That sounds horrible, lol.

Joking aside. Horribly overbooked finish. Add The Usos, Sami, and KO in and you’re probably close.

Every now and then something like that works. Especially if you can get the crowd to a fever pitch. Drew and Roman are both good, but it’s probably not going to be as good in the ring as Sheamus and Gunther or Rollins and Riddle.

But hey, if you want Drew to go over cleanly, there’s nothing wrong with that idea, per se.

Mr. Nerfect 09-03-2022 08:22 PM

Triple H seems to be trying to bolster the tag division on SmackDown. Imperium seem like they’re back together, Hit Row are in there. They’ve got a long way to go before they reach the level of Alpha Academy on Raw, but it’s a start.

Mr. Nerfect 09-03-2022 08:33 PM

Fightful Select is saying that Bray Wyatt has an offer from a startup wrestling company, most likely Freddie Prince, Jr’s. I assumed that was dead in the water because FPJ was back under the WWE umbrella with WWE Rivals.

It’s probably dirt sheet bullshit, but I’d rather something else come along for Bray than him returning to the WWE.

Lock Jaw 09-03-2022 08:43 PM

Maybe he'll go to The Rock's wrestling company

Not a fan of that, because I want Dwayne Johnson Promotions to be good.

xrodmuc316 09-04-2022 01:57 AM

Freddie's big thing was he wanted to set up the show to get his wrestlers in the screen actors guild, or whatever it is called nowadays, which would give them access to all kinds of benefits like insurance and pension plans. Once they were in WWE and AEW talent would both have an easy case that they should be in as well.

Mr. Nerfect 09-04-2022 05:34 AM

If Bray Wyatt’s going to go anywhere, I hope it’s NXT. Let him play a fake babyface looking for redemption. Eventually it can be revealed he is poisoning the minds of the young talent or whatever.

Never realised this resulted in a lawsuit, the interviewer among other things claimed he suffered "emotional distress", pity you can see him smiling before and after the dainty slap.
