Gronk beat out Cam Newton to be the cover star for this year's Madden game.

I would have given it to Peyton Manning as a big thank you. Keep everyone free and clear from the curse.
Cross your fingers, Pats fans. |
Goodell fined the Patriots and suspended Brady again for Gronk being on the Madden cover :shifty: #FireGoodell
|
The Madden Curse used to be fun to talk about when you could undeniably make a case for it existing as every player had really glaring issues immediately after
But then Brees was on the Madden 11 cover and had a typical Brees year. People made the fringe argument that the Saints losing to the 7-9 Seahawks in the playoffs counted toward the curse. Even if you wanted to count that, Megatron broke the fucking receiving record the year he was on the cover. Yeah they didn't make the playoffs. So what? It's a team sport. OBJ ensured it stayed dead this year too. |

Peyton Manning announced he won't be suing Al Jazeera regarding the roids report they published earlier in the year. At least 4 other players in the report will and a lot of growing speculation the NFL's own investigations are being purposely dragged along and hoping the public loses all interest in this situation.

Denver offered Von Miller 6-years, $114.5 mil and he turned it down. Negotiations have since ceased.
I'd say that's more than generous. |
Breshad Perriman tore his ACL in his left knee during practice..probably out for the year after missing last year due to a PCL in his right knee. I'd imagine he probably will never play a game for the Ravens.
Uggh.. |

Fletcher Cox stays with PHI: 6/$103 with $63 million guaranteed.

Would probably be more balanced if more people voted. 1/5 of people voting were from Maryland.
|
Nah it was 21% of the total vote with Maryland being the only state with Ravens majority.

Tom Brady taps out. Won't appeal to the Supreme Court. Goodell is literally god of football.

Broncos and Von Miller reach an agreement on a long-term deal hours before the deadline. 6 years, $114.5 million with $70 million guaranteed.

A Paxton Lynch, Mark Sanchez, and Trevor Siemian quarterback trio really doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. That said, defense is their bread and butter as last year showed.
I think the AFC West is one of the tougher divisions in football to call this year. |
It's Paxton Lynch I'm excited about.
I ain't expecting much out of Sanchez. Just do well enough to get us through the season and hope Paxton Lynch is ready to go. |
Justin Tucker is staying in Baltimore..but he pissed me off saying he wouldn't stay if he didt get the deal done today
|
Jets still having problems getting a new deal done with Ryan Fitzpatrick to the point they already have Geno Smith set as the starter if it doesn't happen.

NFL considering placing chips inside of game balls this preseason and Thursday games as a way to help tweak certain rules in the future and help out refs in the near future.
K balls would help determine if the goal posts should get narrower to make FGs and extra points even harder to make. Regular balls would help refs in regards to being more accurate when spotting the ball after downs. Only issue being science is split on how effective it is when dogpiles occur. Quote:

Will Brady be blamed when the chip doesn't work? |
NFL dealing with another possible scandal regarding concussions after a special committee outed one of the medical advisers on the NFL's payroll who interferred with government studies on the issue.

Johnny Manzeil got suspended for the first four games this season. How can he be suspended without being on a team?

It would be imposed if he signs somewhere. Don't want anyone to forget!
|
Ryan Fitzpatrick signed a 1 year, $12 million deal with the Jets. Jets pretty much gave an ultimatium for him to sign it today or leave since they didn't want to be bothered any more with talks.
Rams recently released Nick Foles after he requested it once trades were no longer possible. Terms of the request included both his guaranteed money and whatever the Rams would have to cover in any new deal being reduced. Cowboys set to be fined around $250k due to suspensions involving its players for this season as part of new NFL rules. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/17...pended-players |

Suspended 4 games I bet and Godell wants Edelmans cum in his mouth as proof |
Welker's backup has done quite well for himself in every department.
|
|
Ravens waive Trent Richardson.
Think any team takes a flier on him? |
Probably not. Pretty sure Stevie Wonder would have seen some of the gaping holes in the defense that Richardson would miss.
|
Wait, he's been injured a bunch. So probably not.
|
Cardinals give the Honey Badger a 5-year extension with $40 million in guaranteed money.

Quote:

Good to see the Cowboys are in regular season form already.
|
The more I think about it the 4 game suspension is doing the Patriots a favor. Brady turned 39 today..he's going to be saved a month of wear and tear on his body and to be honest 3 of the games are still winable without him (all at home too).
|
Hall of Fame Game canceled.
Even if the HOF Game itself is something only the complete diehards would watch, I feel terrible for the young players on both rosters who were bound to get a ton of playing time as starters barely plan any snaps in the HOF Game. They lost out on a chance to make an impression to sheer incompetence. |
The first football game in 6 months and some morons can't get the field fixed? what the fuck?!
|
Also, how long before Goodell suspends Brady for this?
|
Really interested in finding out how something as simple as painting the field ended up becoming a huge disaster for the Hall of Fame game.
Supposedly whatever was done made it almost impossible for cleats to get a grip on certain parts of the field. |
Whoever the dumbass is that just cost them all that money should be FIRED
|
What a fuck up
|
Apparently the paint used for the Hall of Fame game ended up melting the turf. Created a rubbery-like surface at the endzones and mid-field which is why the teams complained when they found out what happened.
Also the NFL didn't bother to inform the crowd entering the stadium about the game being canceled until the start of the actual pre-game festivities. |
Totally missed the Ravens (backups) beating the Panthers (Backups)..maybe next week I'll see a game lol
|
Carson Wentz suffered a hairline fracture of his ribs, and out for the preseason.
That's not good. |
I think the Titans are going to do well having Murray and Henry running..
|
Oh look, the Bills have a bunch of injuries.
New and original. |
NFL currently considering suspending players from the Al Jazeera report due to claims of certain players refusing to cooperate with the league.
Could be looking at another legal case between players and the NFL if the league goes through with the punishments. http://www.acmepackingcompany.com/20...view-by-aug-25 |
Those dreading the possibility of a Jerry Jones HOF speech might want to turn away. Jones and Paul Tagliabue were selected as the two Contributor Finalists for the class of 2017.
The Contributor Committee was created a few years ago and they and the Senior Committee switch off every year - the Contributors get two nominees in odd years, one in even years and vice versa for the Seniors. With both committees though it's pretty much been a formality that the nominees for those groups will go in. |

I do love how the bills didn't go into damage control, with some sugar coated PR statement about it, but instead publicly ripped him a new one. |
They should rip him a new one. Brady's suspension at least cracked the door open for another team in the AFC East to maybe get a jump start on the divisional race.
At the end I still don't see it mattering, I think the Pats will go 2-2 under Jimmy G at absolute worst and then Brady will come in and give the Browns a throttling like never seen before. But Dareus should still feel like a fucking moron for pulling that crap when the best team in the division is weakened. |
Quote:
I dOnt know I think Jimmy will go 3-1 to be honest |
NFL suspended Giants Josh Brown for 1 game due to breaking their domestic violence policy. Even though the ex-wife stated she was beaten by him on at least 20 occasions, NFL didn't feel they had enough evidence to give him the 6+ game suspension allowed.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...y-violent-20-s NFL also reduced Steelers Le'Veon Bell's drug related suspension from 4 to 3 games now after settling some issues with the union regarding it. Supposedly Bell got suspended not because he failed a test but because of travel issues making it impossible for him to be on time for his testing date. |
Ravens managed to win 19-18 over the Colts on an int of a 2 pt conversion returned for 2 pts..I've never seen that before. Ravens look pretty bad though but the good thing is most of their starters haven't played at all..

I was cautiously optimistic about the Giants going into the year...but their O-line has somehow looked even worse than they did a year ago.
All this fixing of the defense and they did dick all to fix the O-line. They are putrid. |
Apparently Colin Kaepernick caused quite a stir recently by not standing up for the national anthem during Packers-49ers preseason game. Did it as a silent protest to current police controversies regarding minorities. Ended up getting the usual reactions whenever someone protests the flag or anthem.
In a bit of irony, some of ESPN's bigger personalities were disgusted at Kap for what he did even though ESPN themselves have been recently pushing for athletes to get more involved in their communities and social issues. |
I'm glad that Colin Kaepernick is trying to raise awareness on a serious matter. But I don't particularly agree with the platform he chose because it was never going to actually lead into a discussion about the issues he was protesting in the first place. Instead, the conversation is now about whether or not there ought to be restrictions on freedom of speech and expression.
And to those who want to limit the free speech of others, maybe they should focus on trying to shut down a group that protests military funerals every week and march around with picket signs that read "God Hates Fags" before worrying about a guy who chose to sit during a 3 minute song. |
Trevor Siemian. The 3rd string QB after Peyton Manning and BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCK OS-WEILER!, won the starting job for Denver.
He beat out The Sanchize, and The Future, Paxton Lynch. Okay then. |
Titans are currently dealing with a big Super Smash Bros addiction spreading in their locker room.
Whole thing started after the set of PS4s supplied by the team were removed and the players got bored. Someone brought a N64 from their home and ended up causing a bunch of players to get really addicted to the game. Quote:
