The Madden Curse used to be fun to talk about when you could undeniably make a case for it existing as every player had really glaring issues immediately after

But then Brees was on the Madden 11 cover and had a typical Brees year. People made the fringe argument that the Saints losing to the 7-9 Seahawks in the playoffs counted toward the curse. Even if you wanted to count that, Megatron broke the fucking receiving record the year he was on the cover. Yeah they didn't make the playoffs. So what? It's a team sport. OBJ ensured it stayed dead this year too.

Yeah the curse itself has been on a decline for a while. A lot of the curse's status was due to the guys being picked having a career year or won the Superbowl so in order for them to "break" it, they either needed another career type year or title.

Even the Superbowl prediction using Madden hasn't been as reliable as it was in past years.

NFL in some possible big trouble with the government after a recent Congressional report claimed the NFL actively tried to influence a government-approved study on concussions and CTE.

Quote:

At least a half-dozen top NFL health officials waged an improper, behind-the-scenes campaign last year to influence a major U.S. government research study on football and brain disease, congressional investigators have concluded in a new report.

The 91-page report describes how the NFL pressured the National Institutes of Health to strip the $16 million project from a prominent Boston University researcher and tried to redirect the money to members of the league's committee on brain injuries. The study was to have been funded out of a $30 million "unrestricted gift" the NFL gave the NIH in 2012.

After the NIH rebuffed the NFL's campaign to remove Robert Stern, an expert in neurodegenerative disease who has criticized the league, the NFL backed out of a signed agreement to pay for the study, the report shows. Taxpayers ended up bearing the cost instead.
Government is really pissed off at the money part since it meant they couldn't fully fund other important research projects during the same time period. Also exposed the NFL actively trying to get a chunk of the money granted for the CTE project to a different project not approved in the deal.

Peyton Manning announced he won't be suing Al Jazeera regarding the roids report they published earlier in the year. However, USA Today, citing a person familiar with Manning’s strategy, said the former quarterback — surprise, surprise — has decided not to file a lawsuit. Peyton is full of shit on this. He's not dropping this because of the excessive cost or resources here. He could easily afford to go ahead with this defamation claim with the right legal counsel. It's more likely that his attorneys told him that he won't be able to prove that the facts (that Manning was using steroids) alleged/published by Al Jazeera were false. Of course, this also likely indicates that he was at one point taking steroids as alleged by Al Jazeera.

NFL considering placing chips inside of game balls this preseason and Thursday games as a way to help tweak certain rules in the future and help out refs in the near future.

K balls would help determine if the goal posts should get narrower to make FGs and extra points even harder to make.

Regular balls would help refs in regards to being more accurate when spotting the ball after downs. Only issue being science is split on how effective it is when dogpiles occur.

Research to this point had suggested that chips were unreliable when the ball is buried in a pile of players.

NFL dealing with another possible scandal regarding concussions after a special committee outed one of the medical advisers on the NFL's payroll who interferred with government studies on the issue.

Even if the HOF Game itself is something only the complete diehards would watch, I feel terrible for the young players on both rosters who were bound to get a ton of playing time as starters barely plan any snaps in the HOF Game. Those dreading the possibility of a Jerry Jones HOF speech might want to turn away. Jones and Paul Tagliabue were selected as the two Contributor Finalists for the class of 2017.

The Contributor Committee was created a few years ago and they and the Senior Committee switch off every year - the Contributors get two nominees in odd years, one in even years and vice versa for the Seniors. With both committees though it's pretty much been a formality that the nominees for those groups will go in.

Apparently Colin Kaepernick caused quite a stir recently by not standing up for the national anthem during Packers-49ers preseason game. Did it as a silent protest to current police controversies regarding minorities. Ended up getting the usual reactions whenever someone protests the flag or anthem.

In a bit of irony, some of ESPN's bigger personalities were disgusted at Kap for what he did even though ESPN themselves have been recently pushing for athletes to get more involved in their communities and social issues.

I'm glad that Colin Kaepernick is trying to raise awareness on a serious matter. But I don't particularly agree with the platform he chose because it was never going to actually lead into a discussion about the issues he was protesting in the first place. Instead, the conversation is now about whether or not there ought to be restrictions on freedom of speech and expression.

And to those who want to limit the free speech of others, maybe they should focus on trying to shut down a group that protests military funerals every week and march around with picket signs that read "God Hates Fags" before worrying about a guy who chose to sit during a 3 minute song.

Trevor Siemian. The 3rd string QB after Peyton Manning and BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCK OS-WEILER!, won the starting job for Denver.

He beat out The Sanchize, and The Future, Paxton Lynch.

Okay then.

Titans are currently dealing with a big Super Smash Bros addiction spreading in their locker room.

Whole thing started after the set of PS4s supplied by the team were removed and the players got bored. Someone brought a N64 from their home and ended up causing a bunch of players to get really addicted to the game.

When the Tennessee Titans lost their PS4s and expensive televisions due to renovation, the NFL team's starting left tackle Taylor Lewan brought in his own Nintendo 64 and a copy of Super Smash Bros. Now, the team is obsessed, fitting in quick matches the moment they have some time to spare, The Ringer reports.

Four Titans players can often be found in the locker room, playing the classic fighting game while a line of teammates forms, waiting for their turn to smash some bros. Lewan says some of his teammates are "dogs**t awful." He added that he uses these teammates, including undrafted free agent Nick Ritcher, as fodder for the more skilled players.

Colts should send them No Mercy.

Romo should probably retire. He can't take a hit anymore.

Lol, yea I think so too. Too bad, he's a better QB than what he'll be remembered for.
Good thing the offensive line is good, give Dak some time to throw

Yikes! Teddy Bridgewater's season is over. Horrific knee injury that reportedly had some teammates throw up. Could be good news for people who pick AP on Fantasy.
