Mr. Monday Morning 06-18-2010 05:25 PM

Ireland have Kevin Doyle

But I agree. Adam Johnson should have been in there. Bent should have been in there. Others I'm forgetting should have been in there.

TBH the only ones I could reasonably think have any right to hold their heads up after that are James and Cole.

The Mackem 06-18-2010 05:28 PM

Parker is another. Why is Carragher anywhere near the team? Cole is fucked. Joe Cole should be in that team ahead of Wright-Phillips.

No cohesion in that team, it was right through their play.

Londoner 06-18-2010 05:34 PM

we wont win anything until gerrard/lumpard fuck off and retire. any manager we have is too gutless too drop them.

Wait, are you talking about Ashley? Can't agree there, for me he's the only one who hasn't grossly underperformed. He kept Donovan pretty quiet first game and didn't really put a foot wrong tonight, unless I'm forgetting something. Would like to see more from him going forward but to be fair to him he's not exactly had much in front of him to help out.

Certainly if you compare him to Evra's showing last night it puts it in a bit of perspective.

Team Sheep 06-18-2010 06:01 PM

Lol England.

God the world cup can be a bit shit when you consider England can still quite easily top their group and it would be fucking unreal if they didn't qualify as they'll clearly go and beat Slovenia who despite being 2 points clear at the top won't get through which will be a cunt for them, so blessed they got handed such an atrocious group. That English team looking more average than they even look on paper. Terrible side.

CSL 06-18-2010 10:02 PM

First time we played well in 1990 was the semi-final. Never know.

Team Sheep 06-19-2010 03:03 AM

Fucking stupid English fans turning on the team now, what kind of supporters are they. If they don't get out of the group then fair enough, be upset. But tbh with their team and talent I could easily just see them turn it on against Slovenia and go on a run in the knockouts. Fans have given up already and are telling the team to come home, etc. Such a judgmental culture it's just hilarious. Get behind your fucking country. Rooney just showed what a childish immature baby he is by expressing himself publicly though.

Londoner 06-19-2010 03:21 AM

I don't understand those who say 'im not supporting england anymore' bunch of fucking gloryhunters.

Hell, I'd back them if they ever make it to a world cup. Always back the underdog :)

#BROKEN Hasney 06-19-2010 04:28 AM

I'd rather have lost 7-0 than the game last night. I was considering budgeting for the current financial year for something to do during that match.

The problem is, if Gerrard's on the left, he's expected to play 2 positions because Gerrard will be in the centre half the game.

Yeah. The thing is if Barry didn't actually make some crucial interceptions in the box, I'd probably be maoning about putting another recovering player into the team but I guess he proved his value to the team with that. I'd be tempted to go 4-5-1, remove Heskey and push one of Gerrard and Lampard closer to Rooney but I'm not sure it's the right time to mess with the formation when Slovenia is now a must win game.

I think at this point I might just be happy not to see Heskey and Wright Phillips at all next game.

Guess it depends on how those carying injuries are getting on and who are concerns for the Slovenia game. Haven't read any news today yet so I'll get on that now. Should be interesting.

You're such a mean drunk :'(

I don't necessarily agree with the booing but for people who've spent ££££££££ travelling there to show their support you can't blame them. The players, or more specifically Rooney I guess, need to develop a thick skin, how on earth he can be so irked as to lash out like that I've no idea. Grow up, son.

Slovenia have looked a tidy if somewhat dull side so far, even though we beat them not that long ago it's a different set of circumstances now. Still, this is pretty much what being a Wolves fan is like all year round, only England (supposedly) have better players.

Londoner 06-19-2010 06:37 AM

If the players can't handle the booing then it just shows what cry babies they're/ they can't handle the pressure of the world cup. No wonder were shit at penalties!

What's it got to do with being a minnow? Support is support. You get behind your country no matter what if you're passionate. A lot of English are just shallow glory hounds who think they have a god given right to be world champions. They need to get over themselves. Come back when you do something for the first time in 44 years, then you might have a claim.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-19-2010 07:33 AM

Nah, we're shit. We won't do anything for the next 44 never mind soon.

I have laughed in the faces of people who think we would win it over the past few months. Although I did concede that Greece winning the European championships might show we could fluke it...

I'm not denying that there's fans in Wales that will only turn up when the team's winning. But it's a completely different argument to compare Wales to England. England is the home of the best league in the world. Qualification should be your minimum expectation, and should go without saying really with the team you have, yet you all cum when you win your qualification group. And it's us Welsh, Scottish and Irish that have to put up with all of your hype and expectations about winning the world cup or a euro championship when you've done nothing since 1966 to warrant such expectations.

I ony know Craig Bellamy of those you listed, but I don't see him in the WC line-up.

There used to be some more famous Polish players back in the day, but currently there are still a few fairly known. However, Polish national team is shit these days. I can't wait to see the riots on the streets when we lose on Euro that we're hosting in 2 years.

EDIT: Not the WC line-up of course, just the national team line-up.

To be fair we did win the group quite convincingly, there was only really Spain in the Uefa section that were more convincing. I'm sure if everyone wrote off the team from the beginning we'd all be labelled ungrateful. I think there is only me that can be accused of being ungrateful here :D

You are losing your own argument. You should read your previous post and then RBF's response again.

Team Sheep 06-19-2010 11:52 AM

And let's be honest, your main competition in qualification was Croatia, who were past their best following Euro 2008. Not a huge deal to be proud of really for a team like England's.

Who is shouting about anything?

Mars, The Sun, Carlsberg, Nationwide?

Now i'm not sure with this, but bear with me. Perhaps, MAYBE (and I admit this is a long shot) PERHAPS they're shouting about England doing well so that some of the people in England (50 odd million, compared with 5 million in Scotland and 3 million in wales) might go out and buy their products so their companies will make money. Sort of like marketing.

Now admittedly i'm not a marketing executive but if Carlsberg did an advert saying "England haven't won anything since 1966 and probably wont win anything this year, but hey, buy our beer" i'm not sure if they would sell as much.

I could be way off the mark though.

Right, because it gets the idiots (which every country has, although I do think England has more than it's fair share sometimes.) to either argue for or against the presenter and only the people with the most retarded extreme opinions seem to get through screening.

I've not listened to a sports call in show in about 10 years, really helps the sanity unless you want to giggle at a loony bin. Invest in an MP3 player, you'd probably add years to your mental health life.

Half of my family are English. They have all been confident England will win the world cup, along with their friends. What more can I say? From my personal experience as a Welshman, I've heard a lot of it.

Besides, this has all been blown a lot out of proportion. My point was that the fans are fucking shit for turning on their country after a draw when they're not even out of the cup yet, and I don't see what England have to be confident about. When is the last time they beat a real world contender? Argentina in 2002? Come on.

English media normally absolute fiends for talking up their chances, this has been by far the least talked up English side I've ever witnessed media wise. Obviously The Sun and the likes of Talksport are still talking them up, they appeal to the fucking spastics of the country but proper sports journalists have been perfectly realistic about England's chances.

Sorry Team Sheep, we're just a lesser race than the perfect Welsh.

Team Sheep 06-19-2010 12:34 PM

Sorry, I thought Capello was some sort of God before last Saturday.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-19-2010 12:35 PM

They were frustrated because it looked like they weren't even trying. I know that's not the case, but surely if Rooney/Bellamy can turn round and twat someone when they're frustrated, fans can't be expected to applaud and cheer after that.

No, he's a very good manager, but he's going to make mistakes. He just seems to have no plan b when things aren't working.

I think 90% of other managers would have qualified us in the play-off rather than automatically.

Team Sheep 06-19-2010 12:49 PM

I'll give England all the credit in the world if they make the semi's, because I think that will be a successful campaign. I'm not anti English. I just hate overrated teams. I thought the same about the Irish Rugby team until they won the 2009 Grand Slam.

Would be wild if Germany missed the round of 16

#BROKEN Hasney 06-19-2010 01:58 PM

Now that's a thought we can all get behind.

Sixx 06-19-2010 02:00 PM

I want'em out as fast as possible.

CSL 06-19-2010 02:05 PM

I like the Germans :o

CSL 06-19-2010 02:06 PM

Until we play them that is. All the 66/war/Hitler references come out then. But for the most part, 'I'm down'.

CSL 06-19-2010 02:07 PM

Is Andy Ireland Captain Townsend really on ITV atm referring to England as we?

Ogen 06-19-2010 02:12 PM

Well hes about as Irish as the queen in fairness to him

What are people's thoughts on the red on Kewell? My first reaction was definite red card...it's harsh but that's the rule

Please, someone tell me the next England game is on BBC though? Cannot stand ITV's coverage.

Yes, it was the right call. It didn't appear to be intentional, but the ball was headed into the net. It would be up for debate if it was headed wide, but as it stands, I believe it was justifiable.

CSL 06-19-2010 03:13 PM

Not a fan of that rule at all, on a stage like the World Cup, where most players dream of playing, getting sent off because you had the ball blasted at your arm is a bit shit. Odds are now Kewell's tournament is over. Give the penalty, book him etc but not a straight red-card unless there's intent.

This game is crazy

England has a 6 year old on there team? Because I dont see why England would have "sad" faces when they are going to the next stage. There next opponents is Slovenia who they will easily beat imo. US and Algeria might be a toss up tho but I think US will pull through too.

CSL 06-19-2010 03:59 PM

More wonderful analysis from BillyGabrielMarcottiBonez.

Fignuts 06-19-2010 04:12 PM

lol so now Algeria vs US is a toss up?
