Great, just what Pittsburgh needs - ANOTHER pothole. I wonder if PenDOT will fill it before the movie comes out.

BTW, I WISH I was joking about that part.

Six minute "prologue" will be shown in front of IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in December.

Kalyx triaD 10-20-2011 01:37 AM

Now I have to watch MI4 or suffer an off-screen leaked vid.

VSG 10-20-2011 03:57 PM

No way I am watching MI4, even for this. I will wait for Warner Bros to put it up in HD.

Yea, unless MI4 gets stellar critical reception, I'll just wait the extra six months to watch the whole film.

Lock Jaw 11-21-2011 06:35 PM

Some pretty big details

SPOILER: show
Proving that there is still power in print media, UK movie magazine Empire has a cover story this month on The Dark Knight Rises, complete with a Christopher Nolan interview. In a tantalizing preview on the mag’s site, some new details on the film are revealed.

Here’s the big news: A six-to-seven minute prologue will be screened in front of IMAX showings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, starting Dec. 21.” The segment will be “an introduction to Bane, and a taste of the rest of the film,” the director said.

The most surprising tidbit? The movie takes place eight years after 2008′s The Dark Knight. Nolan says: “Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”

There also looks to be a good deal of Bane talk in the article, with costume designer Lindy Hemming explaining how the “Venom” will work in the film, saying, “He’s suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can’t survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters.”

So it takes place eight years later. Not sure how I feel about that. I'm sure Nolan can make it work.

Also, apparently you can't put a quote in a spoiler tag.

DS 11-21-2011 08:48 PM

Well, so much for that spoiler tag.

Lock Jaw 11-21-2011 08:49 PM

Really, it is gonna be out there sooner or later. Probably as soon as a real trailer hits.

DS 11-21-2011 09:03 PM

I agree. I don't a have a problem with it, I just skipped it thinking it was something big and read the spoiler anyways. :P

It's doubtful Bane will execute his famous finishing move on Batman in the movie, but I'm sure he'll do it to somebody as a nod to that moment in the movie.

He did. Some say bane may know what really went down with Dent. All he'd have to do is have a chat with the Joker about it. Or perhaps he wants to perpetuate the 'official' report of Batman killing Dent.

It looks like this is only a 6 minute preview, but could be worth it for the hardcore fans out there. There are multiple locations doing screenings. To find out if there is a theater hosting this near you, you will go to:

You will have to create an account with http://www.gofobo.com to get the tickets.

Didn't see that scene in the vid Kalyx posted :-\

VSG 12-16-2011 10:08 AM

I posted it BEFORE Kalyx's video, was referring to the one blitz posted.

Lock Jaw 12-16-2011 01:26 PM

Will refrain from watching the prologue, I think. Would rather be "surprised".

Kalyx triaD 12-16-2011 01:43 PM

It's meant to be seen now. Do it.

VSG 12-16-2011 02:18 PM

I doubt that scene is significant, watch it.

Hanso Amore 12-16-2011 02:46 PM

Its not part of the movie per se from what I hear, more of a teaser setting up Bane before the film.

Kalyx triaD 12-16-2011 03:22 PM

Might not even be in the movie.

Lock Jaw 12-16-2011 03:30 PM

I thought it was just some scene(s) from the movie. Like how before Batman Begins premiered they showed a lengthy preview during Smallville or something. That was basically some excerpts from a couple of scenes.

Lock Jaw 12-16-2011 03:31 PM

Regardless, the video is down anyways.

Yes but the fact that the football field scene was not in Kaylx' video indicates that it was different to Blitz'.

VSG 12-18-2011 12:38 PM

The one Kalyx posted is not a trailer, that's why.

Damian Rey 12-18-2011 09:35 PM

Saw both the trailer AND prologue. The prologue is a pretty cool set up for Bane. It more or less teases what he's capable of and a possible backstory on him prior to his arrival in Gotham. Their's a montage of video at the end with Bane dumping a torn to shreds cowl, much like the recent poster that was released.

The trailer was awesome. I'm indifferent about what seems to be scenes taking place during the day. Kinda meh about Batman during the day, and kudos to whoever called it earlier in the thread, but other than that, it doesn't seems they scaled it down one bit. Also, the idea of this happening 8 years later. Bruce looking spent and haggered with Alfred saying he hasn't kept his promise to his parents about protecting Bruce just makes me excited for whatever subplot they have going for Bruce and Alfred.

As if I wasn't excited already. I can't wait for this movie.

VSG 12-18-2011 09:45 PM

Ya, saw the bootleg trailer first and then before the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Marked out despite having seen it already.

The trailer looks incredibly inspiring and I can't wait for the hi-res version to be released later on this week.

Also, how damn touching is Alfred's "You are as precious to me" line at the beginning of the trailer? Also, we haven't seen him yet, but you know Lucius has something going on in the film, so I wonder what happends with him as well.

There is absolutely no way they'd bother introducing a character such as Azrael this late in the piece. Like, really. There's not going to be more films in this series, by all accounts. He is not well-known enough outside the comics to justify being hastily created and slapped into the mythology now.

And if they did, it would just be fucking retarded.

Quote:

So here’s what we know so far about The Dark Knight Rises…

Tom Hardy is going to play Bane. Anne Hathaway is cast as Catwoman. Christopher Nolan penned the script with David Goyer and Christian Bale is returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Joseph Gordon Levitt was recently brought on board as…?

There have been speculations that he would play Robin or Nightwing. There’s no way in hell that will ever happen as Nolan and Bale have repeatedly stated that if Robin showed up the world they inhabited that they’d walk. Nolan may like to throw curveballs, but he wouldn’t do that.

Out of all the rumors I’ve heard online, I truly can’t believe that no one has jumped to this conclusion yet.

The Dark Knight trilogy is based on realism. A fictional city where super powers don’t exist with heroes and villains who could actually appear in our own world. The Dark Knight dealt with the idea of someone else taking up Batman’s ‘mantle’ once he was too old or no longer fit to serve as Gotham’s protector. Harvey Dent was a worthy successor until he was corrupted by the criminal underworld as well as the Joker.

The Dark Knight Rises will certainly explore Batman’s outcast status with the Gotham P.D. and his criminal image with the public. In addition to protecting the innocent and wiping out crime when the underworld is scrambling for a way to wipe him out, Batman now has the added frustration of dodging the cops while he’s trying to do his job. Enter Bane (played by Tom Hardy). So who will Joseph Gordon Levitt play?

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Levitt will play Azrael, the man that Bruce Wayne recruits as Batman after his back is broken. Bane is going to break Batman. It may be his back or it may be something else, but that level of violence would be a strong departure from the flamboyant embarrassment that Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin portrayed Bane as. In the DC Universe, Bane broke Batman’s back and Azrael took up the mantel for a brief time, broke Batman’s rules and eventually had to give up his title because Wayne took it back after rehabilitation. It was a key moment in the Batman mythos.

I may not be an expert on a lot of subjects, but I’ve read Batman all my life. I’ve studied Nolans films (before and after) with a Jesuit-like thoroughness. I’m calling it right here, right now: Joseph Gordon Levitt will play Azrael. There’s a reason why his casting hasn’t been announced by Warner Bros. Once you tip that domino, the entire plot clicks into place.

I’ll go one step further and say that Bane’s character will be more of a steroid-injecting addict than a man with a tube in the back of his head. That sort of cartoonish grandstanding won’t hold up in Nolan’s mind. Expect to see Hardy shooting up with a needle, plan on seeing Christian Bale as a near-invalid trying to rehabilitate his body with Alfred’s help and plan on watching Levitt take his role as Gotham’s Guardian one step too far.

When I wrote for Buffalo Rising, I predicted that The Dark Knight would meet or beat the international box office draw for Titanic. It came within spitting distance. Levitt will play Azrael. Count on it.
