I think Irsay ruled Cruz out. Indy really is one huge trade or signing away from being a legit contender. Love the Hasselback pickup. If they could get Revis, which is possible. And pair him with Vontae Davis and Bethea and Landry as the FS and SS? That's hands down the best defensive backfield in the league.

Vontae Davis was amazing in the last 5 games or so last year. He really settled in and played like he was worth the pick we gave up.

Droford 03-20-2013 01:25 PM

Lol indeed

Probably going to resign reed since he's not getting decent offers elsewhere
Signed Spears and Cantu who are great at stopping the run, bolstering the 20th ranked defense vs the run
Still in the mix for Dumervil as well as Dwight Freeney and Osi Umenyiora as upgrades to the defense.
The Ravens are getting back proven veteran players on defense after letting a couple of guys who combined to start 20 games in 5 years walk for $75 million combined in Ellerbe and Kruger.

Doubt the rest of the league will be lol'ing if the Ravens can upgrade their defense..

Crimson 03-20-2013 01:41 PM

Even I love the new thread title.

Emperor Smeat 03-20-2013 02:08 PM

 the new title.

Courtsey of Rotoworld and ESPN:
* Ted Ginn expected to sign a deal with the Panthers within the next 2 days.

* Devin Hester got demoted as a WR and will only be a kick returner for next season.

* Drew Stanton rumored to be the starter for the Cards next season.

* Jets preparing to release Tebow after the NFL Drfat if nobody is still willing to make a trade.

* Texans have offered a 3 year, $12 million deal to Ed Reed and are waiting for Reed to see what Baltimore will offer.

* Cowboys tease Tony Romo is getting an extension soon and Felix Jones will be resigned for next season.

* The deal the Broncos gave to Elvis Dumervil is rumored to be for 3 years but well below $30 million.

#1-norm-fan 03-20-2013 04:06 PM

The Denver Post reports free agent Elvis Dumervil was "underwhelmed" by the Broncos' most recent offer, and is planning to begin visiting other teams within the next 48 hours.

Denver reportedly made a three-year offer, but is now "prepared to move on." The Broncos will host free agents Dwight Freeney and John Abraham in the next 24 offers. With neither side appearing keen on a new deal, Dumervil is likely done in Denver.
Quote:

NFL.com reports the Ravens are "very pessimistic" about re-signing free agent Ed Reed.

Per reporter Ian Rapoport, the "belief" is that Reed is now seeking $4 million per year, but that it's "doubtful" the Ravens meet that price. $4 million is believed to be what the Texans are offering, so it could be only a matter of time before Reed stops peddling his wares and takes his talents his Houston.

The Tuck Rule has been eliminated.

Also, it's now illegal for running backs to lead with their helmet. May as well just throw it 70 times a game.

In relief or spot duty in Detroit he played fine, yes.

road doggy dogg 03-20-2013 05:53 PM

Much obliged, Krispy.

Also, I like Stanton. As a person. Notsomuch as a starting NFL quarterback. He's more suited to be a 2nd... or 3rd... string QB. I don't know how he makes the Cardinals competitive. I mean, they couldn't get much worse but really? This is your big splash? I would love to be wrong and I would be absolutely ecstatic if Stanton succeeds there, but... I just don't see it.

I only remember him coming in a few games in Detroit when all their QBs were going down. I don't remember the games specifically. His stats look like shit though.

Triple Naitch 03-20-2013 06:28 PM

Bears announced that they were unable to resign Urlacher and are moving in another direction. Hard to imagine Urlacher playing in another jersey.

Not saying he should b a starter for anyone, but he's been around and is an upgrade for that team, as pathetic as that may seem. They could have done worse.

CSL 03-20-2013 06:59 PM

Ed Reed to Houston done barring "a few last minute details"

#1-norm-fan 03-20-2013 08:22 PM

Apparently the Bears offered Urlacher $2 million to stay.

Yeah I really wanted them to go after Cruz. He's such a young impact player that could have a phenomenal career in Indy. He's talent that would have instantly started making a difference.

No idea what this big 'haul' is for the WR they're going after. Pretty sure he ruled out a trade for Fitzgerald too, but I was really looking forward to the possibility of Cruz. Granted, it's just like Irsay to say "nah" and really mean "yeah", so there's always a chance for Cruz if he doesn't sign elsewhere soon.

Also yeah on the Revis pick. But he's kind of a diva isn't he? Might not fit in in Indy.

Ravens just lost 6 key D players from what I heard. Doesn't sound like an easy upgrade. Reed and Lewis alone are worth more than they're going to be able to replace.

Droford 03-20-2013 10:22 PM

Ozzie Newsome is being mentioned as the guy to replace the athletic director at Alabama who stepped down but he's not going to from all I've heard.

James Steele 03-20-2013 11:48 PM

They should go ahead and make Nick Saban the A.D.

Next Big Thing 03-21-2013 07:08 AM

He's one national championship away from being made G.O.D. at that school.

Next Big Thing 03-21-2013 07:09 AM

Ozzie Newsome tearing down that defense and then leaving for Bama would be the greatest LOL of all.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-21-2013 08:50 AM

So hypothetical: would you rather your team win the Super Bowl one year and go 0-16 the next year or would you rather your team win 12 games each season and lose in the Conference Championship both times?

Krimzon7 03-21-2013 08:55 AM

I'd sacrifice two 0-16 seasons to see Cincy win one superbowl.

Well, seeing as I am a Lions fan, I've already had to deal with that garbage. So def win the superbowl and suck for a while after.

They made the assumption that just because he was really fast, he'd easily could become a great WR in a short period of time.

In reality he ended up as one of their worst, lead the team in both dropped passes and fumbles, and became a lot more fatigued during games to the point it affected his kick return stats.

Now he goes back to his old spot where he excels the most while the team gets rid of a big liability they had at WR.

James Steele 03-21-2013 01:21 PM

I'd try him at tailback some.

Given what my team has, you bet your ass I'd rather have them win one, but as it stands right now, they're likely to have several 0-16 seasons anyways.

Emperor Smeat 03-22-2013 03:38 PM

According to Rotoworld's player news tracker:

* Falcons making a strong push to get Osi Umenyiora. Falcons pushing for a new deal to be signed this weekend.

* Dolphins interested in Elvis Dumervil although Ravens are the favorites right now even though the Phins can out spend them for Dumervil.

* Brian Urlacher has better odds of announcing his retirement than playing in the NFL next season. Nobody is interested in him and most teams thought the $2 million offer by the Bears was fair to extra generous.

Looking at their road opponents, I'm guessing it's gonna be @ Denver. Unless they wanna give them an easier go to make up for the situation they're in. They should just have someone else be in the season opener and then do the Ravens home celebration game a week later.

Droford 03-22-2013 06:30 PM

Ravens road opponents are arc north, Miami, buffalo, detroit, Chicago and Denver.

I feel as if the NFL will fuck with the ravens more by playing the game in Pittsburgh. Its either them or the Broncos.

Evil Vito 03-22-2013 06:38 PM

Emperor Smeat 03-24-2013 08:55 PM

Its rumored Denver will most likely get Freeney unless New England decides against signing John Abraham.

Only reason for that is due to Dumervil's agent also represents both guys and wants all three to get good deals. Had Dumervil taken the larger Denver offer, the value of Freeney and Abraham would have dropped more than the agent had promised/pushing for.

Dumervil Ngata and a healthy suggs will be nasty lol, plus they got Canti and Spears..defense should be vastly improved over last year.

Cheaper than Kruger's deal too supposedly..would rather have the proven talent than someone who cashed in on playing well for about 6 weeks.

Droford 03-24-2013 11:58 PM

Kruger's was 5/35 with 20 guaranteed and this was 5/35 with just 12 guaranteed and only 2.5 mil on this years cap.

Patriots are willing to listen to offers for Ryan Mallet but the asking price is steep involving either a 1st Round pick or a 2nd Round pick along with something else. Cleveland is rumored to be somewhat interested even though they signed Jason Campbell recently.

Ravens also signed safety Micheal huff. Very impressed with the moves to improve the defense.

Droford 03-27-2013 04:45 PM

3 years $6 million..
He had 90+ tackles in 2010 as a safety..the raiders then last year moved him to cb he was OK, but he's much better at safety which is where he'll play in Baltimore

More of a replacement for Pollard than ed reed, doesn't get many int's although a fact that ed reed missed 18 tackles last year to huff's 16 missed IN 3 YEARS..
