The Redskins did suffer from some vanilla playcalling, but also keep in mind this is the 7th different offensive system for Jason Campbell in 8 years. That has to be a real pain in the fucking ass. The Redskins' run game was held in check largely all game save a nice run or two, and the Giants defense was disruptive up front all game long. The Giants started to play a vanilla defense towards the end of the 3rd and into the 4th and let the Redskins have a lot underneath.

I feel bad for Jason Campbell. I think they are limited due to the implementation of another offense yet again. They might get the ball rolling sometime, but not for a few weeks at least.

Gonzo 09-05-2008 05:51 PM

I think they should of at least tried to get Cooley involved more. It appears from a fan POV that they did not. I don't know if the Giants gameplanned specifically against him to take him out but Cooley only had 1 catch.

Kris P Lettus 09-05-2008 06:54 PM

I'd be pissed if he was my starting TE on the FFL..

Rams gonna beat the Eagles.

Gonzo 09-05-2008 09:34 PM

I hope so. I was watching some Steven Jackson highlights the other day. Dude is a tank.

I was about to say the same thing but then realised they won it in 2006 lol. Only cause the Cowboys did their annual late fuck up though ;)

SammyG 09-05-2008 09:52 PM

I dunno. Have a really good feeling about Sunday's game. Avery is out, but whatever, Eagles have their top two wideouts out. Jus gotta focus on Westbrook.

I dunno I disagree. I think Samuels realized he got beat and just decided to hold in order to protect his QB from getting blind sided. I don't think he meant to roll up on Kiwi's ankle like that (he went right over to him right after it happened to make sure he was alright)

There was really no chance to change the outcome of the game with that play obviously, but you don't want the Redskins to just quit and lay down. That wouldn't exactly look very good.

Gonzo 09-06-2008 01:55 AM

Yeah I'm with Stima, you gotta expect them to give an effort, regardless of the fact that the game's outcome wasn't changing.

Gonzo 09-06-2008 01:57 AM

If you want to talk about fines, I forgot which OL it was but one of the Redskin players gave Antonio Pierce a head butt when he had no helmet on. Both players were guilty of getting into it but this guy clearly leaned in and bopped him with his facemask.

Kiwi disagrees too, which is understandable I guess. He said there is no room for a play like that in professional football and if Samuels knew he was beat he should have just let Kiwi go then. He said something about how he got knocked down earlier in on the game (Clinton Portis BLEW him up when he was trying to pass rush) and Campbell should be able to handle getting knocked down too.

Crimson 09-06-2008 05:26 PM

Bring on the Brownies..I hope the Barbarian just steamrolls thru their defense

Holy hell, yeah that was a hell of a 'chip'.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-06-2008 09:43 PM

Too bad it was a useless block as Jason Campbell threw a 3 yard dump off pass on that play when it was 3rd and 8 lol

Gonzo 09-07-2008 02:09 AM

Yeah. It was on a garbage play. I think there was something heavy going on back and forth there though that caused Portis to lay into Kiwi like that. I think it might have been in retaliation. Brandon Jacobs and Marcus Washington were getting into almost every play beforehand.

Jacobs absolutely trucked LeRon Landry in the game too I think before that hit but I dunno Portis is one of the better pass blocking running backs in the league. I think he just likes to lay dudes out.

Pretty happy football is finally back

Yeah they mentioned that while replaying the hit. Pretty awesome that football is back. Its the best time of the year for me personally. You know you're excited when you're talking about a chip block on an unimportant play in the first game of the season.

I went and laid down and smoked a bowl, but then I saw that Die Hard was on.. Now I am back up for no apparent reason..

So, prolly not..

El Fangel 09-07-2008 04:28 AM

If you tell us you fell asleep 5 mins before kick-off I will die laughing.

I'm so fucking juiced for tomorrow morning I can't sleep. Sundays are worth it again!!!

Evil Vito 09-07-2008 12:05 PM

Being a Giants fan, it's hard to get overly psyched about today as they've already played...prolly gonna be flipping around to see the beginnings of any of the 1PM games on here before the Mets start at 2.

Next Sunday's gonna feel awesome tho

Supreme Olajuwon 09-07-2008 12:43 PM

I've had trouble getting real amped up about the season or even talking that much about it. In fact this is the first time I've even posted in this thread. Just couldn't get excited with all the drama about the Bengals' offseason and how they're picked to finish 3rd or 4th and all that.

But now that it's here and there's actually something to watch I'm pretty pumped.

Boomer 09-07-2008 02:05 PM

MATTTTTT RYANNNNNNNNNNNN

Evil Vito 09-07-2008 02:10 PM

Matt Ryan would be the man if that TD would have been to Roddy White instead :(

Boomer 09-07-2008 02:14 PM

Yeah I've got Roddy in fantasy league too. No matter.

Boomer 09-07-2008 02:17 PM

Yeah guys...the Falcons suck. They sure do.

-edit- I know we are facing the Lions, but come on. After last year I can't imagine a better start.

UmbrellaCorporation 09-07-2008 02:21 PM

What the hell is going on with Brady? I'm hearing he got jacked up pretty bad.

Please don't let it be true. :( :( :(

FearedSanctity 09-07-2008 02:24 PM

Had his leg planted to throw and one of the Chiefs lunged for his leg trying to sack him and hit his knee. Kinda just folded over, looked pretty bad

Evil Vito 09-07-2008 02:31 PM

Well if Brady's out for any length of time I lost that league.

...however, isn't it ironic that Brady goes down in the game where he's not listed on the injury report for the first time in like 4 years? :o

Crimson 09-07-2008 02:36 PM

Wow..'the Burner' Turner is tearing it up. Brady left the game ,probably nothing serious..

Brady's hit could have been worse......still didn't look very good though...

Evil Vito 09-07-2008 04:26 PM

Gay, after all the big deal they made about how Ocho Cinco would have that on the back of his jersey...the NFL isn't letting him change it because of some issues that happen whenever a player changes his name or number.

Prolly has to do with jersey sales or something.

Superbowl curse for the Pats?

UmbrellaCorporation 09-07-2008 05:07 PM

Alright, update out of NE.

WEEI is reporting that Brady's MRI was clean, and it is most likely a sprained knee. No serious damage is reported, and Brady will possibly be out 2 - 3 weeks. No long term damage, it appears. And they have an easy few games coming up. Still think Cassel can handle the reigns for that long, especially since he did a pretty good job today. This is no problem for NE.

Working on getting a link to the info.

This is all tentative, by the way. I can not find a link to this yet, but I'm hearing it quite a bit. Will repost as soon as I find out something.

U-Warrior 09-07-2008 05:48 PM

They usually do in September when it's still hot

Big Fat Mike 09-07-2008 06:21 PM

lol @ Chad Pennington.

But why do the Jets not even attempt to get a first down on that last drive? Is everyone on the sideline really worried that Favre was going to throw a pick-6?

Also, it's still hot as balls, Vito. White uniforms retain less heat.

Innovator 09-07-2008 06:24 PM

While I hate the Cowboys, my fantasy team, the Mean Street Posse, loves Marion Barber

Nervous Ferret 09-07-2008 06:27 PM

It's going to be a good year.

Evil Vito 09-07-2008 06:39 PM

I figured heat had something to do with all the white uniforms, but even the Saints were wearing white while in a dome so it seemed a bit weird.

Come to think, I think the G-Men are the only team in the NFC East that don't wear white at home year round...the other teams only wear other colors at home when it's their mandatory once-a-year alternate uni

UmbrellaCorporation 09-07-2008 08:25 PM

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with what two sources described as a severe injury to his left knee, suffered in the first quarter of the Pats’ 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, a source close to the quarterback indicated it involved serious damage to the knee. That could include a torn anterior cruciate ligament and perhaps other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”

Brady was hurt as he stepped up in the pocket to make a throw to wideout Randy Moss. Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, who was on the ground, lunged forward and struck Brady’s leg, which buckled as he released the ball.

Brady was helped off the field and was later led down a staircase by team officials, presumably to undergo tests.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his career before Sunday, replaced Brady and completed 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel, who backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC, hasn’t been a starting quarterback since high school. He won a competition with Matt Gutierrez during the preseason to retain the job as Brady’s primary backup.

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT

Then again...an MRI is scheduled for tomorrow, so disregard my earlier post. Since a proper test hasn't been done yet, this can not be confirmed at this time.

LoDownM 09-07-2008 08:38 PM

Looks like we did the rest of the league a favor.

On a side note. I completely forgot the season started today...

Team Sheep 09-07-2008 08:51 PM

So glad the Jets got off to a winning start. Wasn't the prettiest of games, and we should have finished Miami off a lot sooner tbh. We made hard work of it at the end. But fuck it, we won.

I quite fancy our chances next week.

VonErichLives 09-07-2008 09:01 PM

yeah, there are a bunch of ACL reports... but nothin team confirmed...

I did find it funny a Boston Herald Reporter sited Brett Favre as a source "I heard Brady injured his ACL"...

anyway, Cassell didn't look bad (of course it was against KC) and how often do Moss and Welker fumble? take those away and they could have been up more...

that being said, replace Brady with Cassell this is probably a 8-10 win team in a dog fight for the division.

Who said football wasn't fun?

I did joke with a friend today "If Cassell does real well and they win a super bowl do they trade Brady in the off-season to the bills for a 2nd round pick like Bledsoe?"

MVP 09-07-2008 09:04 PM

Man, I hope that MRI turns out to be negative. Probably not gonna happen though. :(

Crimson 09-07-2008 09:12 PM

You never know. Things didn't go too badly the last time your star QB went down early in the season and an unheralded backup came in for the rest of the year

Yeah but I remember seeing Brady play in the preseason before he ever started a meaningful game and I thought "Wow this guy is pretty good" When Cassel played this year in the preseason I thought "Wow this guy is pretty bad." Hopefully I am wrong but I highly doubt lightning will strike twice, Cassel could end up being pretty average but I think that will be about it.

Maybe Maroney will finally step up and be a big time consistent running back now?

D Mac 09-08-2008 01:43 AM

Some people were saying that tackle that put Brady out was dirty. That's fucking stupid. Pollard had a Patriot on top of him and was just trying to ankle tackle Brady.
