You're a better man than i am if you'd be calm about it then. Someone broke my ankle, i think it was deliberate, back when i played junior football and i wanted to 'do some damage' to him.

Anyway, i take your point about the normal speed, to be fair it doesn't look like much is wrong at that speed, but an aplogy from the club would be nice, or they could give their best wishes or whatever.

El Capitano Gatisto 07-21-2005 09:47 AM

Injuries happen in football. If someone set out to hurt me, I'd probably smack them whether they succeeded or not. Just a two-footed challenge that didn't even connect would set me off. Tackle like that, 50-50 challenge, injuries can happen.

Nervous Ferret 07-21-2005 12:57 PM

Stop calling little slides "tackles" okay? okay.

Wengerland 07-21-2005 01:17 PM

No.

If you don't want to hear them referred to as tackles then stick to American football threads.

Rob 07-21-2005 03:05 PM

Who in their right mind really sets out to break their opponents legs?

Wengerland 07-21-2005 03:23 PM

When i said "intentional" i meant as in intention to hurt, the only time anyone would have wanted to break someone's leg was probably Roy Keane on Alfe Haaland. Balde, if it was intentional (admittedly i probably over reacted at first) would have done it in frustration as both Dublin and de Vries were dominating him and Varga in all aspects, Mdv even outpaced Balde when Bobo had a headstart :$

Mr. Monday Morning 07-21-2005 03:24 PM

Roy Keane

If you fly in shin or knee high, over the top of the ball, you're aiming to hurt someone. It doesn't happen that often, but Steve Gerrard used to be notorious for it. Luckily he never did break anyone's leg, but it was more by luck than design. He's grown up a bit since.

I've seen people do it, two-footed, in amateur games. It's a shitty thing to do, and like I said if anyone even tried it on me I'd probably chin them.

Rob 07-21-2005 04:20 PM

People are wankers then. I have never known anyone personally that went out to hurt someone on the other team. Well, unless it was with a punch in the mouth.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Rob Ban Fan 07-22-2005 02:47 PM

Joey Barton has been sent home from Man City's pre season tour in Asia for brawling with Richard Dunne and a 15 year old Everton fan :|

that boy is a twat

Also, we've signed Sander Westerveld !

Danny Electric 07-22-2005 02:54 PM

Sander :)

Doink 07-22-2005 02:56 PM

Westervelt has signed for pompy

Boro and Bolton are apparently chasing Fernando Couto however he has stated there is interest but he wont go unless he gets the same/better deal than he is on at lazio!

Cant see where we would fit him in with Southgate,Riggott, Ugo, Cooper and the youngsters we have comming through, Taylor, Wheater, Bates and also Querdrue has been earmarked for a centreback role and Pogetez can play there aswell (will prob have to wait 24 weeks to find that out though)

I know Riggot is injured at moment as is Bates so Couto could only be as cover for us unless he can play in midfield in a holding role or something. I dunno I just cant see where he would fit in and his age is defo against him.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-22-2005 03:05 PM

Rather like asking why on earth you would bid for Boa Morte (speculation at this time admittedly) when you have Yakubu, Viduka, Hasselbaink, Job, Nemeth and Maccarone.

Anyway, slightly more interesting news:

Five bids have been submitted to host the European Championships in 2012.

Joint bids from Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine have been made to UEFA with Greece, Italy and Turkey also launching individual campaigns to host the championships in seven years' time.

Croatia/Hungary are the early favourites - Hungary narrowly lost to Austria/Switzerland in the contest to host the 2008 finals and UEFA members are keen to see the championships hosted in eastern Europe.

UEFA's executive committee will reduce the number of candidates to three on November 7 this year and then make a final decision in December 2006.

----

Outside of the occasional European game I've no idea what the facilities are like in Croatia/Hungary or Poland/Ukraine...out of all of them Italy is surely the best prepared at this point. I really dunno what a tournament in Turkey would be like, Greece would be interesting though. Colourful, at the very least.

Wengerland 07-22-2005 03:23 PM

I consider Boa Morte to be more of a left winger anyway, but even then Boro have Downing, so it seems weird.

I heard Theo might buy PAOK after he retires !

Me too. It'd be great.

Thought Scotland and Ireland might apply again, now that Croke Park is open to "English games."

Nervous Ferret 07-22-2005 10:55 PM

So what is happening with the Malcom Glazer thing?

yianni 07-23-2005 09:12 AM

lol what bollocks by Inter, pussies. Go on just let your fans chuck flares at players you cunts. :nono:

Wengerland, didn't know that about Theo, where did you hear that? He is a fucking legend at PAOK, they will fire up this season with him there. Still won't win the league but they'll give it a shake I reckon. They may possibly win the Cup, they always have a good run in that competition, with Theo there they'll be strong in it.

It was on the sky sports website i think, when the rumour came up. Only a few days ago so i'll find the link. Seems to just be started by the site though.

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/...icle&id=293301

Midfielder Theo Zagorakis is set for a return to his homeland, having been released by Italian side Bologna.

The Greece captain, who led his side to European Championship glory last summer, is close to signing for former club PAOK Thessaloniki.

If, as expected, Zagorakis pens a two-year deal it will mean the former Leicester City player finishing his player career at the club he first left some seven and a half years ago.

Zagorakis's close association with PAOK may even prompt the player to decide to buy the club once he hangs up his boots.

yianni 07-23-2005 09:34 AM

!

Legend!

Cheers for the link. :y:

Rob Ban Fan 07-23-2005 10:31 AM

"It's different for us than the other clubs, they are in breach of a transfer agreement by not coming. It's pathetic, we are in the suburbs while England play Australia in central London. If they don't come, they're gonna get sued. It's cowardly. They're going to allow terrorists to dictate the way that people conduct themselves. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. They could fly into Croydon. THere's no bombs going off in South London, Norwich, Portsmouth, Leicester. The emergency services stuff is an excuse - if the police felt this was too much they would say so. I'm angry on 3 fronts - I spent a million pound on a player who only played 27 minutes and now they pull out, I'm angry as they have messed up our centenary celebrations, and I'm angry as a Londoner. They are going to get sued, this is a sad indictment of sport, when you've got footballers refusing to play in a city where people on minimum wage are prepared to carry on. We were told yesterday that South American players wouldn't come, now we are told it's club officials. This is not a terrorist hot target, this is not the West of London, I think perhaps they are taking this opportunity because they didn't want to come anyway. We encourage people to come anyway, as we will try and put something else on. If their bravery on the pitch reflects their bravery off it it probably wouldn't have been a very good game anyway."

Palace Chairman Simon Jordan on Sky Sports News

Apparently as part of the deal they did for Sorondo and Ventola they agreed a friendly and signed a contract.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-23-2005 11:42 AM

Good old Jordan, shooting his mouth off again. Hope he does sue them though that'd be fucking hilarious.

Dazz 07-23-2005 12:07 PM

Jordan's a cunt, he tried to have a pop at Chelsea last season, I forget what it was about but it had no bearing on his shit little club.

He was Liverpool's best player Vs us in October, I bet he scores some crackers next season, including one where he delightfully nutmegs Dickie Dunne and rifles it in for his hat trick.
