The Mat Latos trade finally got done. Somehow the Braves got in the mix and this became a 3-team deal.

Dodgers get: Mat Latos, Mike Morse, Jose Peraza, Alex Wood, Jim Johnson, and Luis Avilan.

Braves get: Hector Olivera, Paco Rodriguez, and Zachary Bird

Marlins get: Kevin Guzman, Jeff Brigham, and Victor Araujo.

Latos trade not done. He's warming up in Miami right now.

RP 07-30-2015 11:07 AM

Come on Cubbies. Do a deal!

Dan Haren is pitching for the Marlins today.

Sounds like Price might be heading to Toronto.

road doggy dogg 07-30-2015 01:00 PM

I'm reading Norris and Alford (not confirmed)

I'm... okay with this

screech 07-30-2015 01:24 PM

Per SI: Norris, Matt Boyd, and Jairo Labourt

Frank Drebin 07-30-2015 01:34 PM

Man, Jays and Royals are all in on 2015. Seems crazy for the Jays to do that since they have such a big gap to makeup to win the division. Going all in, just to get to a one-game playoff is risky (see: 2014 A's). If they win that game though (obvs especially if Price starts it), this move is worth alot more.

Norris is the only one worth having. Boyd and Labourt are fringe prospects.

They're doing what they should be doing. Theo and Jed are all about timing the market to get best value. They're under no obligation to make a trade, so they're waiting while everyone else makes deals and will probably try to get the best value from whichever pitcher is left over from a team who wants to unload a guy for something. I'd take Mike Leake for a similar package that brought Miguel Montero to Wrigley.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 03:15 PM

lol the umps called a rain delay with 2 outs in the 9th inning. what a joke.

RP 07-30-2015 03:42 PM

Lol Mets

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 03:43 PM

Game resumes, Familia comes back in and blows it again. 3 straight blown saves since the break. 7-1 lead blown. and then they call for another rain delay.

lol @ me for dreaming up playoff possibilities with this team. Nats will probably sweep them this weekend.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 03:44 PM

I hope the crew chief in this game gets a sudden visit from the Angel of Death.

WOOOOOO FUCKING HOOOOOOOO!

I still want AA to pick up another established reliever.....

Bad News Gertner 07-30-2015 05:30 PM

I'd like a dependable lefty out of the pen. Loup and Cecil have been horrible.

Baring a Yankees collapse, the division crown is likely out of the question but they probably care more about snapping their 20+ year post season drought. Would be like the Pirates a few years ago where the streak getting snapped was a bigger deal than winning a division title or having home field for the one-game playoff.

ClockShot 07-30-2015 05:46 PM

And the Yankees for reasons unknown went and got Dustin Ackley.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 06:40 PM

Tigers keep on dealing. Joakim Soria to the Pirates.

RP 07-30-2015 07:27 PM

What is with this doubling up on closers bullshit.

Dammit the Cubs have fucking Hector Rondon

Dammit I almost posted this calling the Cubs the Cums.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 07:41 PM

Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Astros. No problem with his hip in Houston.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 07:41 PM

Also the Dodgers immediately designated Michael Morse for assignment. wtf.

Damian Rey 07-30-2015 07:47 PM

Hahaha the Dodgers eating his entire year's salary for next season.

Not well versed on the pieces going back to Milwaukee, but Gomez definitely helps the 'Stros.

My condolences, Vito.

Bad News Gertner 07-30-2015 07:47 PM

I still can't believe in a span of 3 days the Jays got David Price and Troy Tulowitzki. I'm just in shock.

Emperor Smeat 07-30-2015 07:50 PM

:-\ Daniel Nava got designated for assignment by the Red Sox and getting released if he clears waivers.

Even though he's struggled this year, really liked him due to the "feel good" story surrounding his Red Sox career.

Team wants as many arms as possible for the main roster because of how horrible the starters have been so he became expendable.

Playoff Baseball is different from the regular season. Playoff baseball is all about frontline starters and a couple of lockdown closers. Watch the Jays get smoked by KC in the divisional round.

You think one bullpen guy makes the Cubs that much better? If they got someone in a package thats one thing, but you're going to trade a top 10 prospect for one who might be a rental? The pen hasn't been great, but it was only last year they were the NL version of KC. Grimm, Ramirez, Strop, Rondon is pretty respectable if not sexy.

Evil Vito 07-30-2015 08:10 PM

It's been widely speculated that the Mets tried to get the Brewers to throw in cash for a portion of Gomez' 2016 salary. And, when they didn't, the Mets backed away citing concerns over his supposed hip condition. Seems entirely feasible that this has, once again, come down to the fact that the Wilpons are cheap.

I mean, the Astros refused to sign the #1 overall pick in the draft last year because of a concern of his medical history. But hey, Gomez passed their test with flying colors.

Totally feel your pain.

ClockShot 07-30-2015 08:25 PM

Supposedly Joe Girardi went all Martin Luther King Jr. and has a dream. A dream, that he'll have his own super utility player the likes of Ben Zobrist and BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCK Holt.

And that player, is one Dustin Ackley.

I don't get it. :?:

There's always tomorrow. Now that most of the main players are off the board, my request of a solid pitcher seems to be gone.

The Cubs got Miguel Montero for a bag of baseballs, a couple Malnati's pies and a slice of chocolate cake from Portillo's.

Tigers trying to blow a 7 run lead on the Orioles

RP 07-30-2015 10:52 PM

Apparently the Padres and Cubs are still working on something big. I don't think Starlin Castro will be a Cub tomorrow night.

Damian Rey 07-30-2015 11:09 PM

I sure hope he is. As a Padres fan, I want zero to do with him. Can't field, no power, doesn't get on base. No thanks. Especially considering his contract is only going to get more expensive. Think they're better off giving Baez a shot and hopes he hits 250 with a 300 obp to go along with awesome pop.

Frank Drebin 07-30-2015 11:19 PM

How'd that cubs pen do tonight, RP?

Frank Drebin 07-31-2015 12:15 AM

You'd be buying low on castro. He's been good in years past, but I'm all for him getting dealt. Always one step forward, one step back with him. Javier baez might be troy Glaus or jose cruz jr

Damian Rey 07-31-2015 12:42 AM

Castro is just below league average for his career, and even though he's still young, there's more than enough of a sample size for me to assume he is what he is. I personally feel he's been overrated because he's posted empty 300 batting averages with little pop and a lack of success at avoiding outs. He's never been more than 16% better than league average offensively, per ops+, and that year is sandwiched between two abysmal seasons. I'd be disappointed if he was acquired when Ross is seemingly in high demand.

As for Baez, if he routinely posted Jose Cruz Jr's career slash line he's an all-star at short.

I hate watching him play so much. Someone just take him, please.
