Fully expecting to hear about Wheeler for Bruce rumors until 4 PM. Sounds like the Reds want another piece added to the deal. So the Mets could wind up trading more for Bruce, who is nowhere near the fit for the team as Gomez. They already are too lefty-dominant, strikes out as much as Duda, would force Grandy to be miscast in CF, he costs more money, and he has awful home/away splits. He's an improvement but nothing that's going to transform the entire lineup.

At least I can admit that trading Wheeler won't cripple them even if the player they get back isn't great. Best case scenario he's back in June/July next year and on a tight innings cap in 2017 as are all young pitchers who get TJS. So you're looking at 2018 as the first year he might give you 200 innings, and he's a free agent after 2019.

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 08:55 AM

The media is fully prepared to LOLMets in almost any plausible scenario today:

A) They stand pat and do nothing. The affirms the belief to the fans that the Gomez deal fell apart due to money and that they don't truly think they can win in 2015.

B) They do the Bruce for Wheeler trade or something similar. While this eases the financial concerns of the team it will be painted as a total PR/panic move.

C) They trade for a Will Venable type of player, who will clearly help but compared to what could have been on Wednesday totally meets the "socks on Christmas" analogy compared to what could have been on Wednesday.

Possible trade deadline deals in the works the past few hours:

Red Sox-Padres currently in talks with Tyson Ross as the centerpiece for a deal.

Red Sox and Cubs both in talks with the Inidans Carlos Carrasco. Cubs likely the front runners while Red Sox see him more as a backup plan if the Ross deal fails.

Yanks, Red Sox, and Astros currently in talks with the Padres for Craig Kimbrel. Yanks currently the front runners with Jorge Mateo as the one the Padres want the most.

Orioles in talks with both the Brewers for Gerardo Parra and Phillies for Ben Revere.

ClockShot 07-31-2015 01:51 PM

Cubs get Dan Haren.

O's get Gerrardo Parra.

Damian Rey 07-31-2015 01:59 PM

Cue Droford with world series aspirations.

Nicky Fives 07-31-2015 02:16 PM

Jays land Ben Revere.

ALL YOUR PLAYERS NOW BELONG TO US

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 02:35 PM

Deja vu. Mets/Reds talks of a Bruce for Wheeler swap that have been going on since last night have fallen apart over either medical concerns or money.

Never in my life have I seen an organization so inept.

Any word on who is coming this way?

RP 07-31-2015 03:53 PM

Cespedes to the Mets

ClockShot 07-31-2015 04:01 PM

Unless Cashman got a last minute play in the works, Yankees fans better be fucking scared right now.

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 04:07 PM

OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 04:08 PM

Mets gave up Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa, according to reports. Keeping Wheeler is a huge bonus.

Hate to lose Fulmer but you have to give something to get something, especially for a guy who will transform the lineup like Cespedes. I think RDD will love Fulmer before long. Dude is tearing up Double A. Needs to be added to the 40 this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 04:10 PM

I see the "pending medical review" tag still being thrown around.

Let's hope the Mets don't veto it because the circumference of Cespedes' left areola is bigger than his right or something.

screech 07-31-2015 04:14 PM

lol areola

Jimmy Cordero and Alberto Tirado. Both throw really hard, Cordero reaches 100 out of the pen. Tirado has a higher upside than Cordero who is 24 and just reached AAA

ClockShot 07-31-2015 05:43 PM

The dust has settled and Yankees are gonna promote Luis Severino. Really surprised nobody wanted him. Would have sent him to Detroit in a heartbeat for David Price.

They also cut Esmil Rogers loose so he can play in Korea. Whatever.

DaveWadding 07-31-2015 06:51 PM

Dan Haren is a plus get for the Cubs. He'll be way better than shitty fucking Jason Marquis.

Damian Rey 07-31-2015 07:16 PM

So fucking furious with the sorry ass Padres right now. Don't even have the fucking words.

He's better than all the other of not named Adam Jones they've been using

I was shocked the Cubs took Tommy Hunter

RoXer 07-31-2015 07:29 PM

G Parra is my 3rd favorite Diamondback of all time

Emperor Smeat 07-31-2015 07:59 PM

:| Red Sox big trade today ended up being them adding another pitcher with throwing issues. Considering the problems this year, one would think that'd be the last thing they actually want.

A's traded Ryan Cook to them for a TBA player and/or cash.

Evil Vito 07-31-2015 11:40 PM

2 days after thinking he'd been traded and crying on the field, Wilmer Flores wins the game for the Mets with a 12th inning walkoff. Amazing.

Frank Drebin 07-31-2015 11:56 PM

How'd that Cubs pen do today, RP?

Droford 08-01-2015 09:42 AM

Just wait til Tommy Hunter goes boom

Frank Drebin 08-01-2015 03:38 PM

Seriously now, wadding: Cubs signed Marquis to a 3/21 deal. He pitched 2 seasons for them and totaled 3.4 WAR. They paid him 13 mil and he was worth 20. Not bad for an innings eating 4th/5th starter. That's what Edwin Jackson was supposed to be.

He was "too expensive" for the last year of his deal so they shipped him to Colorado where, in the last year of that deal, he had a career year and was worth 3.4 WAR. That's a 21.4 mil value for a guy who was paid 8 mil.

He was exactly what he was supposed to be. Sometimes he was good, sometimes he was bad, but he took the hill every fifth day. Never put on the DL during that time. That's an ideal backend of the rotation starter.

I can't believe you have such a hard on for someone who got paid $11 million dollars by the Cubs to be completely and totally average at his job. And whatever he did in Colorado has no bearing on my opinion of him.

Damian Rey 08-01-2015 04:39 PM

Think the point you're missing Dave is that being average is actually a good thing.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-01-2015 04:48 PM

Average pay for an average player.
