The Red Sox are out of it regardless. Irregular heartbeat isn't exactly sprained ricng finger. I think the Red Sox would rather make sure their best player doesn't die than try to finish fewer than 10 games out

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-31-2006 12:23 AM

The Red Sox lineup is hilarious, Loretta the DH with Lowell batting clean up.

Injuries hit right at the worse time, they where playing pretty awful anyway, then they get hit with the injury bug. I was pretty wrong about Veritek though, I thought he wouldn't be that big of a loss because his offensive numbers where pretty shitty but the pitching has been pretty awful without him behind the plate.

I really don't know who I want to win now though, just aslong as it isn't the fucking Yankees.

Evil Vito 08-31-2006 12:34 AM

Hey Stima, what's the deal with Craig Breslow?

MY first day of school today, and my Sports Marketing teacher was saying he's good friend with Breslow and he's gonna get him to come in as a guest speaker. But he was saying Breslow is getting screwed by the organization because he is never getting a good-sized chance at the bigs. He was saying he's like their top minor league pitcher too.

Dunno if he was just trashing the organization (he's a Yankee fan) or if he was sucking up about his friend...but I've never heard of the guy. Is Breslow really meant to be the real deal?

Ty Cobb would still play.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-31-2006 12:48 AM

I dunno, he's up with the major league team right now but I've never really heard of him.

Scouting Report: Former Yale Baseball captain, Breslow's fastball tops out at 90 mph., but generally sits in high 80s. Also possesses a plus curveball and an average change. Can definitely fill in at the MLB level if needed.

MVP 08-31-2006 01:19 AM

I'd much rather see Ortiz healthy for next year than risk it and not even make the playoffs. Too bad Varitek isn't healthy right now, cause I really can't stand Javy Lopez striking out 2-3 times every game.

OssMan 08-31-2006 01:52 AM

Just got on Jerry Recco from WFAN

Joey Slugs 08-31-2006 04:16 AM

Jon Garland: 16-4

ct2k 08-31-2006 10:04 AM

I h8 Craig Monroe

Fuckin A-Rod is playing horrible right now, 0-7 yesterday, 1-17 in the Angels series or something crazy. Thankgod for Bobby Abreu, best trade ever.

ct2k 08-31-2006 10:05 AM

Also, Derek Jeter = still my choice for MVP....Him Dye or Morneau

BCWWF 08-31-2006 10:21 AM

It won't be Morneau, and not Dye if the Sox miss the playoffs. It'll probably be rediculous and be Vlad or something.

BCWWF 08-31-2006 10:26 AM

Also, I was going to post this last night, but what ever made the Yankees third and fourth starters so important? I would love to see ESPN.com have an article: Silva is struggling and Scott Baker might be out for season on ESPN.com, because no doubt Ching Ming Wang and Carl Pavano get that treatment.

Worry about next year, next year. Make Ortiz play.

Wang is basically our ace right now though, he's been one of the key reasons we've been able to stay in and now takeover the race this year.

Dragon 08-31-2006 11:24 AM

Yup, A-Rod is like 1-for his last 23 or something like that. I don't even know what to think because the fans have been actually supporting him at home lately.

The good thing is that his defense has been solid lately. The thing that gets me mad the most is that he can't get a man in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, he can't get a long fly ball most of the time. I think he's second to last in the league behind Michael Cuddyer in that category, he could be last now. Just ridiculous though when a good game for him is not making a couple errors. People are happy when he only makes one out and doesn't ground into a double play which is ridiculous.

Dragon 08-31-2006 11:29 AM

Also, yesterdays game was ours to take but we get a glimpse of what life is without Mariano. Torre brought in Proctor for the save because Rivera pitched the earlier game, and Proctor proceeds to give up a 3 run home run.

Mo had a quick inning the first game so he could have went out in the night game. But Torre does weird stuff like that, I remember a week back or something he said he wouldn't use Mo in two innings again during the regular season and then the game that night he used him for two innings lol.

I dunno, the day Mariano calls it quits is gonna be a tough day for Yankees fans.

ct2k 08-31-2006 12:46 PM

We need a 1-2-3 punch like we had with Quantrill and Gordon in the bullpen, those guys were workhorses, Gordon was almost as lights-out as Rivera.

Villone has been solid for us this year, and tbh Proctor and Farnsworth have done a good job too, Myers is a great guy to have for the lefties too. It could be worse :-\

But I agree, Rivera only threw 14 pitches in game 1 so I dunno why he wanted to rest him so badly, he's thrown triple that number in outings before and done consecutive nights work.

Dragon 08-31-2006 02:38 PM

Yeah, our bullpen is really solid but they falter when they get overworked so much. I think Proctor, Villone and Farnsworth are in the top 4 or 5 in appearances which is crazy.

Proctor was lights out in the beginning of the year and then he got tired and was bad for about a month, he's been much better after the break and some rest. Villone has been solid all year but you can tell he's tired now which isn't good for the postseason. He pitches like 2-3 innings a couple times a week. Farnsworth has never been consistant this year so I don't know about him.

Mike Myers seems like a waste, a lot of the times I've seen him come in he walks/gives up a hit to a left-hander he's supposed to get out and then is taken out because that is all he can get out.

Torre's weakness is definitely in how he handles the bullpen.

Dragon 08-31-2006 02:39 PM

Also Jaret Wright doesn't help the pen by going 4-5 innings in his starts. He saw unchartered territory by going into the 7th yesterday lol

ct2k 08-31-2006 02:45 PM

I reckon right now pitching wise we're doin good, hopefully Pavano will get a few appearances and settle in before it comes down to the playoffs. But even if Pavano is rocky, having him, Lidle and Wright to choose from for 4th, maybe put one in the bullpen, that could be a lot worse.

Dragon 08-31-2006 02:49 PM

I think Pavano is done this year. He's been shut down for two weeks and by that time there won't be much minor league rehab starts. If he does come up he'll probably be put in the pen. Just have to hope he will suck it up and pitch next year without any injuries or soreness or falling on his ass haha.

We are lucky we have a decent enough lead to let Moose go on the DL and recover, hopefully he comes back rested and throwing like the beginning of this year.

OssMan 08-31-2006 02:58 PM

Who the fuck cares about the fucking yankees

ct2k 08-31-2006 03:15 PM

We're Yankee fans, are we supposed to talk about Baltimore or something?

OssMan 08-31-2006 03:17 PM

Why do you like the yankees

Dragon 08-31-2006 03:18 PM

what

A-Rod is currently 3/4, 2 RBI, HR, 2B, SB, 2RS

LOL Pavano is Kerry Wood 2.0. Luckily for you guys Wang is having a breakout season.

I posted a topic in the forum questions and suggestions area asking for support for a "Headlines & Columns" sub-forum in sports.

Any thoughts?

BCWWF 08-31-2006 06:58 PM

I don't get it?

Have people write columns for the different sports covered here.

They do it for wrestling when they post the same news in the forum anyways.

RoXer 08-31-2006 07:52 PM

nah

BCWWF 08-31-2006 07:56 PM

Doesn't sound appealing to me at all. There are plenty of professionals to provide me with meaningless opinions.

Joey Slugs 08-31-2006 08:02 PM

I was bored.

The Miz 08-31-2006 08:19 PM

Wells to SD. If they make the playoffs, Peavy/Young/Hensley/Wells is pretty good for the NL. They'll probably have to face NYM whose rotation stinks, probably lose but you can never count the team with the pitching advantage out.

Dragon 08-31-2006 08:32 PM

Did it say who the Sox got? I was looking at some rumors and some pretty decent propects from the Dodgers came up, wondering if SD gave up anyone decent.

Dragon 08-31-2006 08:33 PM

Also, lol @ Tavarez starting for the Sox tonight. I guess he is holding his own through one inning so far though.

The Miz 08-31-2006 08:41 PM

ESPN or any other reliable source hasn;t confired what Boston get. I saw Mark Bellhorn (LOL) and Termel Sledge on a few sites but that's probably just a rumor.

The earlier, more legit rumors were about a catcher named Geroge Kotteras, supposed to be one of the top 2 or 3 catching prospects in baseball. Dodgers offered Andy LaRoche who is an elite prospect. That would've been insane to give Little LaRoche up for one month of Wells.

Dragon 08-31-2006 08:47 PM

Yeah, heard Kotteras and LaRoche amongst some others. Also heard about Matt Kemp but I don't think that was even possible since I think he's on the 40-man roster for the Dodgers.

The Miz 08-31-2006 09:05 PM

Padres get:
SP David Wells

Red Sox get:
PTBNL (will be C George Kottaras)

Kottaras is on the 40 man so he can't officially be traded to them until after the season
