He traded a couple of career minor leaguers for above average starter Tyson Ross. Boxberger went to Tampa for Jesse Hahn, a young, cheap above average starter. His front office team also continued to draft extremely well which helped facilitate many of the moves Preller executed in the offseason.

The only black eye is the Rizzo trade. Beyond that he did a whole of good and got canned for his troubles.

Josh Byrnes sucks

Been reading that the Cubs are interested in Chase Utley. I wonder if they would take Domonic Brown too.

<font color=goldenrod>Wednesday: Flores cries on the field, Gomez trade axed due to medicals leading to a media circus and every Mets fan just feeling completely miserable the next day

Thursday: Mets suffer their worst loss of the season, having the game halted due to rain 1 out away from winning only for the game to resume and they blow it

Friday: Trade for Cespedes minutes before the deadline, Flores drives in both runs that night including a 12 inning walkoff HR

Saturday: Mets win again, Duda drives in all 3 runs including 2 HR (making it 8 HR in a 7 game span)

Sunday: Duda homers again (9 HR in 8 games), Syndergaard's 109th and final pitch of the evening blows away Harper at 99 MPH, Mets sweep the Nats for the first time since 2009 and they go into a virtual tie for first place in the NL East

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON THIS WEEK???</font>

Setting you up for your inevitable "Beltran strikes out looking" moment.

You should be praising Byrnes for essentially handing over Rizzo while receiving virtually nothing in return. Every time I see Rizzo I think of how handsome he looked in a Padres uni. Ugh.

I will take Starlin Castro and give the Cubs an Applebees gift card if they take Dom Brown.

Hmmmm.....how much is the gift card worth?

screech 08-03-2015 10:46 AM

I'll let you know when the GoFundMe is done.

Bad News Gertner 08-03-2015 05:12 PM

So that David Price is pretty good

you lost 3 games against the Tigers

StuartFinnigan 08-03-2015 06:31 PM

bluejays just a lot better with theur recent trades. I think they're a good bet to make the wildcard.

Bad News Gertner 08-03-2015 07:13 PM

I agree Stuart Finnigan

#StuartFinnigan #HotStove

Damian Rey 08-03-2015 08:55 PM

Fair point. Tulo is an upgrade on both sides of the ball over Reyes, and Price is, well, David Price.

I shutter thinking about how the Jays have arguably the best left side of the infield. I mean, Jesus

StuartFinnigan 08-03-2015 09:36 PM

Man Jays haven't been in the playoffs in over 20 years. Would be nice if they got in again but it won't be easy.

Droford 08-04-2015 03:13 PM

Counterpoint

Fuck the blue jays. I hope the Os play them in the wild card game, or better yet I hope the Yankees have to play them.

Damian Rey 08-04-2015 04:19 PM

Dave Dombrowski relieved as gm. Al Avila takes over. Wonder if it was mutual. Guy turned that organization around.

road doggy dogg 08-04-2015 04:22 PM

great, now we'll never trade Alex

Dave's contract was up at the end of the season. This is probably language/jargon saying "You won't becoming back".

It helps when the owner finally spends money and the rest of the division belonged in AAA for 3/4 of his tenure.

Bad News Gertner 08-04-2015 05:16 PM

Apparently the final straw was Mike Illitch didn't want the team to sell at the trade deadline, but Dave did anyways.

Mariners and Blue Jays currently the front runners to sign him according to Peter Gammons. If he signs with the Blue Jays, it would be for the president role.

Red Sox were rumored to be a possible choice as well but the team has no desire to make an offer for him. Same as the Blue Jays in being rumored as a possible candidate for their vacant president spot.

Evil Vito 08-04-2015 07:04 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I can't say I'm too surprised to see Dombrowski get canned. When you get Illitch to open the wallet to the degree he has and you don't win a title, it's only a matter of time before the hammer drops. And since he effectively waved the white flag by dealing Price and Cespedes to rebuild, Illitch wanted to rebuild the front office too.

At this moment it'd be tough for Tigers fans to not have fond memories of him. When he took over they were a total laughing stock, but he molded them into a perennial contender from 2006 until this year. I'm sure he'll be viewed less favorably in a few years when the Cabrera, Verlander, and V-Mart contracts cripple the team but for right now I can see why teams would be jumping to hire him.</font>

ClockShot 08-04-2015 07:05 PM

Dombrowski would probably want GM control.

Angels sent DiPoto packing a month ago. Might be a good place for him to land.

Bad News Gertner 08-04-2015 07:51 PM

Tulowitzki and Donaldson both with home runs already. Fuck ya,

Damian Rey 08-04-2015 08:47 PM

Dombrowski won't fit in with the Angels as long as Scioscia is there. Scioscia runs the team and is the reason DiPoto walked. Blue Jays seem like a great fix. They draft incredibly well, have the money to make big time deals and their ownership group is seemingly patient enough

The playoffs are such a crap shoot. The Tigers made two world series, dominated their division, hosed the Marlins for one of the best hitters of all time, and were a legitimate powerhouse regardless of what division they played in. Memories of him should be nothing but fond to this point.

Frank Drebin 08-04-2015 08:54 PM

If Trout is #1....Who is the 2nd best player in Baseball?

Damian Rey 08-04-2015 09:00 PM

I think Bryce Harper has a currently compelling case. McCutchen has got to be right there as well.

Damian Rey 08-04-2015 09:01 PM

If Tulo could average 150 games, he could be legitimately up there as well.

DaveWadding 08-04-2015 09:18 PM

GOLDSCHMIDT

Evil Vito 08-04-2015 09:37 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I'd have to go with Harper as the 2nd best player. Legitimate 5 tool guy. Since he's on the biggest rival of my favorite team I have extra incentive to hate him, but I can't deny his talents.

Only thing that drives me mad about him are his constant ejections for arguing balls and strikes. When he throws temper tantrums like that you can definitely tell that he's a kid who was used to getting his way being coddled from a very young age when he was owning high school ball.</font>

Bad News Gertner 08-04-2015 09:45 PM

Woooo Jays win again!

Evil Vito 08-04-2015 09:49 PM

<font color=goldenrod>If the Mets don't win the World Series in 2015, the Jays would be my second preference. Their lineup is insane, Price is always a joy to watch, and I'll always love R.A. Dickey so would be cool with him getting a ring. Definitely a team that would be fun to watch in October. Plus I love the idea of a team actually being rewarded for going balls out at the deadline.</font>

Bad News Gertner 08-04-2015 09:53 PM

Marco Estrada has been pitching his balls off. If only Hutchison were even decent...ugh.

Evil Vito 08-04-2015 10:57 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Mets make a post-deadline deal and acquire LHP Eric O'Flaherty for a PTBNL. The better news...Alex Torres designated for assignment to make room for him. Thank christ.

O'Flaherty's ERA is nearly 6 but nearly all the damage came against RHB. He's got a pretty dominant slash line against LHB. As long as Collins only has him face lefties like he should, he'll be great. And he's an automatic upgrade seeing as Torres wasn't usable against ANYBODY.</font>

Emperor Smeat 08-04-2015 11:47 PM

Decent debut for Henry Owens in his Red Sox debut.

Bullpen stunk as usual. Took a close and possible winnable game into a blowout win for the Yanks once Owens left.

Frank Drebin 08-05-2015 12:30 AM

Where's RP to bitch about the Cubs?

Where's ruien to talk about how close the white Sox are to the playoffs?
