So SammyG is from St. Louis, cheered for the Lakers in round 1, the Clippers in round 2 and now the Heat in round 3? Am I getting this right?

SammyG 05-24-2006 04:58 PM

I am not from St.Louis. I am from Montana haha. Greek-American. My dad made me a Rams,Lakers,Dodgers, and meh, Kings in the NHL fan. He used to live in L.A so yeah. All L.A teams, since the Rams were in L.A before they moved to St.Louis. Of course I cheered for my Lakers in round 1, I was goin' for the Clips in round 2 cuz I didn't wanna see the Suns win again, and I'm pullin for the Heat now simply because I do not like Detroit. Covered?

RoXer 05-24-2006 05:26 PM

Down With Dirk

SammyG 05-24-2006 05:55 PM

PHX is getting blown out tonight.

The Icon of Elisim 05-24-2006 11:29 PM

RoXer 05-25-2006 12:12 AM

Score one for SammyG

The Outlaw 05-25-2006 12:53 AM

I don't know who I'm pulling for. Two of my favorite players going at it. :(

SammyG 05-25-2006 03:46 AM

haha, god damn. I sucked at that prediction. Diaw was unbelievable throughout the whole game. Kudos to PHX. I still expect Dallas to win the series though.

RGWhat316 05-25-2006 09:38 PM

Pistons looking like the real Pistons tonight. Lets keep it going!

The Outlaw 05-26-2006 12:36 AM

LOL nice run at the end there. At least they have some MO going home.

loopydate 05-26-2006 10:40 AM

That was a pretty spectacular collapse down the stretch by the Pistons. Good thing they had an 18-point lead instead of just 13 or they would have lost.

But I gotta say, Tayshaun clearly called timeout on that five-second call. He looked right at the ref and said "Time out." Not to mention the bullshit eight-second call (the shot clock didn't click over to 16 until he was past the Pistons logo on the other side of the court!).

Hey, a win's a win, though. Hopefully they play more like they did for the first three quarters last night for the rest of the way.

SammyG 05-27-2006 02:46 PM

Bummer bout Raja. BTW, Mavs tie it up, 1-1.

RGWhat316 05-27-2006 08:53 PM

LOL, nearly every fan in Miami is wearing white. Don't think I've ever seen that in a NBA game before.

BCWWF 05-27-2006 11:28 PM

Only every other home game this playoffs for Miami and in Sacramento when they was good. It was a lot cooler in Sacramento too.

The Miz 05-27-2006 11:53 PM

I hope Sacto gets good again. Their home games were always fun to watch, especially vs. the Lake Show and the Mav Show

BCWWF 05-28-2006 03:42 AM

I think it will be a while before the Sac Show competes again. They have good players around the board, but they don't seem like the right players. It gets harder and harder to do it right in the NBA these days.

Arenas to police: 'You can't arrest me'

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas and forward Awvee Storey have been arrested on charges of disobeying police.

Storey was blocking traffic in the middle of a busy street when an officer told him to get back to the sidewalk Saturday night, according to police reports. Storey didn't get out of the street, and the officer arrested him and charged him with failure to obey a command.
While police were arresting Storey, Arenas got out of a vehicle and walked toward the arresting officers. According to reports, an officer told Arenas to get back in his vehicle, but he refused, saying he wanted to stand next to his teammate. The officer took Arenas into custody and charged him with resisting without violence.

As Arenas was being arrested, according to reports, he said, "You can't arrest me. I'm a basketball player. I play for the Washington Wizards, and I'm not going to leave my teammate."

Both players were then taken to jail for processing.

The Wizards released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation and, until we have more information, we will have no comment."

The two were arrested as part of a crackdown on disorderly behavior among those who flocked to Miami Beach for Memorial Day weekend.

A total of 557 people were arrested between Thursday morning and Saturday night on Miami Beach. Most arrests were for disorderly conduct and intoxication. During the same three-day period last year, there were 333 arrests.

"We're definitely over from last year," Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said. "We're working a lot more plainclothes officers, so you're obviously going to make more arrests."

SammyG 05-29-2006 05:47 AM

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-30-2006 03:18 AM

I think it is pretty funny how Detriot players are complaining now that they are losing. When they were winning all those games in the regular season they were loving the freedom on offense, I am pretty sure Billups said something like he was not allowed to score before, under Brown, it was like forbidden. Now you got a bunch of players complaining to the media, 'Sheed not going to the huddle during the time out. All around just looks awful, shows on the court too. Hopefully the Heat go all the way, I'd like to see Walker get a ring. Even though he doesn't play for the Celts anymore, I am still a fan of his.

loopydate 05-30-2006 11:23 AM

The Pistons are really disappointing me now. I've been a fan since I was eight years old (I'm 23 now). I stuck with the team through the Dark Ages of the mid-1990s (Oliver Miller, anyone?). And now they've put together one of the best teams in league history top-to-bottom, but they're playing like absolute garbage.

They're letting the officials get into their heads. They should know by now that any time you breathe on DWade as he's driving, you'll get whistled for a foul. Every other team in the league has learned it, why haven't the Pistons?

What disappoints me the most is that this is a team that, throughout the regular season (and the last three seasons, really), prided itself on being a unit. And now all of a sudden, there's conflicts with the coach, they're not sharing the ball, and it's costing them victories against a team that they should be beating fairly handily.

Honestly, outside of the mismatch that Shaq has against anyone (and the aforementioned Dwayne "Floorburns" Wade), who does Miami have that's better than Detroit? No one! Rasheed Wallace should be torching Udonis Haslem every night. Antoine Walker shouldn't even be a factor, because Tayshaun Prince is usually one of the best on-the-ball defensive small forwards in the league. And neither Payton nor Williams can match up against Chauncey.

I know they play their best with their backs against the wall, but they're starting to come off as arrogant when they can dismiss yet another loss by saying "If it ain't rough, it ain't right." Yeah, it may be right for you, but for those of us who are hanging on your every pick-and-roll, every blocked shot, it's incredibly frustrating.

I'm begging for a three-game winning streak, but I know better. I just hope that whoever comes out of the West wins it all. I've said numerous times before that I hate the way Shaq plays the game (if I weighed 350 pounds and was allowed to just lean on my defender until I either got a dunk or a foul, I'd be the "most dominant player in league history," too!), and I hate to see him rewarded with another title. He seems like a good enough guy off the court, I just loathe his playing style.

[/RANT]

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-30-2006 01:12 PM

Well individualy each player on Detriot is probably better then the player he is matched up againest on Miami, but unlike Detriot teams in the past, Detriot is playing like a bunch of individuals. While Miami is playing like a team

BCWWF 05-30-2006 01:31 PM

I wouldn't say that.
Chauncey Billups > Jason Williams
Rip Hamilton < Dwayne Wade
Tayshaun Prince = Antoine Walker
Rasheed Wallace > Udonis Haslem
Ben Wallace < Shaq

As individuals, I don't think Detroit ever really had superstars, it was just that they could play together.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-30-2006 01:46 PM

Yeah thats true now that I think about. Shaq and Wade are better then who they are going up againest and Chauncy and Sheed are better againest who they are going up againest. Where as Walker and Prince do seem to be pretty equal. Miami is still playing like a team though (Even with ex "Superstars" Walker and Payton) where as Detriot is not, and that is the difference really.

The Miz 05-30-2006 07:12 PM

I remember before the season when Detroit was going to win because they played as a team and Miami wouldn't because they were too selfish.

Doesn't change the fact that I pretty much couldn't have been more wrong, though.

BCWWF 05-30-2006 11:21 PM

I will admit that I said the exact same thing as Loopydate. I thought adding Posey might be good, but I hated adding Williams and Walker. In reality, Miami just has a lot of good players right now and Wade is a bona fide superstar. As long as Shaq can be effective the rest of the Heat will be amazing.

To go off on a tangent of a tangent...Flip Saunders is getting torn up in the media right now, but the Minnesota media has been ripping his firing since it happened. In reality, the NBA is such a fucked up league that coaches only have so long to work. Now they are saying Dwayne Casey might be out after one year though, and I think that is way too fast. I really like Casey and hope the Wolves let him go through another year.

The Outlaw 06-01-2006 03:12 PM

Since when did *insert any Detroit starter here* become Tim Duncan? And good job at throwing your coach under the bus. Way to know how to win but when you lose be a little bitch about it. Terrible.

LOL @ breathing comment. 3 free throws last game. Shut up.

If the refs called it "correctly", Ben Wallace/every defender would be fouled out every game. Ever notice he gives him an elbow every time down the court? You can't complain about Shaq "leaning in" (which is called backing down your defender, everyone does), when EVERY DEFENDER that goes against Shaq gives him much more than they take.

I thought Shaq was down to low 3's now? He's looking pretty "ripped" (for Shaq anyway).

DaveWadding 06-02-2006 09:11 AM

You took the words right out of my mouth Loopy. Since Game 3 of the Cav's series, they have made me dry heave like an alcohol poisoned Eskimo. Who is this team? Where did they come from? It's as if they don't even care. Its like the only thing they cared about was not losing the Miami series at home. They stunk up the goddamn place yesterday. I'm at a loss for words to describe how disappointed I am. What the fuck? First the Red Wings and now this? At least the Tigers will keep the safety on my gun for a while...til football season.

They were clearly holding their breath the last two games. It showed in their performance, frankly. He took 52 free throws during the series. He averaged more than eight free throws per game. Only twice during the entire series did any Piston attempt more than eight. Ben Wallace in game 3 when Miami went to "Hack-A-Ben" down the stretch, and Chauncey Billups in game 5 (and he was being fouled in the 4th quarter to stop the clock).

Add that to the fact that Shaq took 48 free throws during the series means that those two players took 100 FTs. As a team, the Pistons only took 154.

But, you're right, to say that Wade gets a lot of calls is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for setting me straight.

RGWhat316 06-03-2006 09:07 PM

I really can't believe how bad it got for the Pistons. It's a damn shame to have the best record out of everyone in the NBA this year to lost it all in not even a game 7 against the Heat. As much as I hate to say it, they definitely choked. Ever since game 3 against Cleveland, the Pistons haven't been the same. Who knows what the hell happened? Just unfortunately it all culminated in ending their season. Hopefully they can rebound next year.

lol of course he gets calls. He drives to the basket and gets hacked, what are they going to do?

And your argument against Shaq is pretty "ROFL"

Since you are trying to turn this into a numbers game, here:

Free throws attempted:

Detroit - 154
Miami - 153

Not really a big difference now that you look at it. The funny thing is the number is only close because of game 4 when Miami shot 47 to Detroit's 22. And, to make it even worse...

Free throws made:

Detroit - 114
Miami - 97

I don't really know if you're even arguing that Miami got all the calls or not since you left it pretty vague. Shaq was 21/48 for the series. Dwade was 44/52. So, Shaq averaged 8 free throws a game and Wade averaged a little over 8. Not outrageous numbers at all lol.

You're welcome, by the way. :)

I'm actually not arguing that. I'm arguing that those two players get more calls than anyone else. And I provided numbers to back it up. It wasn't a team thing at all since, as you mentioned, Detroit actually took more as a team. But there was certainly a disparity between the number of FTs that those two players in particular took compared to anyone else in the series.

That's what I was saying.

The Icon of Elisim 06-07-2006 06:03 PM

Well ya, they got the ball more and took more shots than anyone on their team. It would make sense that they get to the line more

loopydate 06-07-2006 06:16 PM

Yes, but they didn't just take more than anyone on their team. They took more than anyone on either team, which was my point. Of course they're going to take more than Walker and Payton and Williams and Posey, et al. But they also took more shots than any Piston.

Richard Hamilton is usually a guy who gets to the line a lot, and he only took forty-one. Seven free throws behind Shaq, and eleven behind Wade! No other Piston took more than 28!

So I don't think it's horribly unfair to say that Wade and Shaq get a lot of calls, which has been my point all along.

BCWWF 06-07-2006 07:20 PM

The refs weren't part of a big conspiracy to give the Heat more free throws, come on, you're starting to stretch this argument.

loopydate 06-07-2006 07:30 PM

I'm not saying that's the reason the Pistons lost or anything, but I don't think it's any big secret that superstar players get preferential treatment from the referees. Seriously, when was the last time you saw LeBron or DWade called for traveling when they pick up their dribble at the top of the circle and dunk it?

But my point has been missed so spectacularly, I think I'm going to just stop trying.

BCWWF 06-07-2006 07:33 PM

There have just been so many posts about the number of free throws during the playoffs. Obviously a player like Kobe Bryant is going to draw more free throws than Lindsey Hunter.

Whooo Raptors trade Araujo to Utah for Kris Humphries and Robert Whaley

I'm honestly shocked, I figured the only way we'd be able to get rid of Araujo would be to waive him but to trade him and get a guy that went in the first round two years ago, thats fucking amazing

DrA 06-08-2006 08:51 PM

God Mark Cuban is a disgusting human being. If I wasn't a fan of the Mavericks I would probably hate them because of him.

BCWWF 06-09-2006 12:29 AM

Based on this game, I'm taking the Mav's in six, but I'd prefer to see Shaq bring one to Miami before hanging em up.

The Icon of Elisim 06-09-2006 12:51 AM

Im torn on who to root for. I really like the Mavs but there are so many guys on the Heat that I'd like to see win a title. Payton and Walker especially. I dont like Mourning but he deserves a title.

I picked Dallas at the start of the playoffs and I'm sticking with them, should be a great series. I thought Miami's best shot to win in Dallas was Game 1 just because I thought Dallas would need a game to figure out how they would play Shaq and Wade. I would pick Dallas in 5 now but because of this stupid 2-3-2 shit I'll say Mavs in 6

I dunno, I think I am the only one who likes to watch the Bobcats? Probably because of my boy G. Wallace, boy can straight up ball.

Last night was pretty terrible. I expect the Heat to make adjustments though. Two of those adjustments are:

1. Get the ball to Shaq more. 9/11 and you don't feed him the damn ball? Come on, the reason you guys are there/making shots is because of him. When you get him the ball, good things happen. He makes YOU better.

2. Make free throws.

3. Play good defense on all players, not just Dirk and Howard.

Bah, not feeling too good but maybe they will come out with fire in their eyes Sunday night.

BTW DrA, what did Cuban do?

The Icon of Elisim 06-09-2006 06:03 PM

I dunno why someone would dislike Cuban. I mean I dont like it when he runs on the court but I love him just cause he is a basketball fan living the dream of a basketball fan. When I read about him and watch him on tv I dont see an owner that is trying to make a profit, I see a guy who wants to win because he genuinely loves the game. And he's also trying to make it as fun for his teams fans as possible. Find me another owner that gives free plane tickets for everyone in attendance to celebrate a big win.

I agree, I like Cuban.

I highly doubt the second claim

You expect me to believe that Mark Cuban pays off the Dallas Morning News and co. to write good things about him? As somebody in the industry, I really, highly doubt it.

Shaquille "I never have two bad games in a row and always hit my free throws when I need to" O'Neal with another outstanding performance

SammyG 06-12-2006 05:09 AM

Wow, terrible 2-5, 1-7 free throws. Horrible. Mavs are gonna sweep em up if this shit continues.

I would be shocked if Miami didn't win at least one at home. Shaq has got to have a good game three, but Dallas definately has the upper hand in this series. I knew Shaq was starting to fade, but I never expected him to be this bad at this stage, especially with Dampier on the other side.

Minus his free throws, he didn't have a bad game in game 1. But yeah, game 2 was pretty terrible.

He got fined 10 G's for not giving an interview. Pretty ridiculous.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-13-2006 01:07 PM

lol JJ Reddick got pulled over last night and got a DWI. He was probably smoking weed while writing poems or something and decided to go out for a drive

The Outlaw 06-13-2006 01:43 PM

HATERSSSSSSS

Jesus Shuttlesworth 06-13-2006 01:52 PM

I heard Danny Ainge "really likes JJ Reddick" so we could see Reddick in a Celtics uniform next season :(

The Miz 06-13-2006 02:17 PM

Outlaw, JJ Redick is no longer allowed to play NCAA basketball, only professional basketball, so its probably a good time to jump off the bandwagon

BCWWF 06-13-2006 02:24 PM

I think he could technically play NAIA if he really wanted to. NCAA eligibility isn't counted by the NAIA.

The Outlaw 06-13-2006 06:12 PM

Bandwagon? LOL ok man

SammyG 06-13-2006 06:19 PM

I hope Dallas sweeps 'em

RoXer 06-13-2006 08:56 PM

I'm already sick of it but at least Tom Petty > Rob Thomas

It'll go 7 because the NBA wants that money.

RoXer 06-16-2006 09:08 PM

I don't he should be, but Stackhouse is suspended for game 5

The Miz 06-16-2006 09:46 PM

NBA doing all they can to help Miami. They know they have no shot at winning 2 games in Dallas

RoXer 06-16-2006 09:46 PM

Also, here is an article that doesnt really suck Cuban's dick.
