I don't know where else to put this but the new She-Ra is alright. Doesn't really push any SJW malarkey other than certain aesthetics and character design. And everybody seems to be gay. Like, confirmed straight people seem to be rare. It's kinda funny how gay this world is. Probably why the population looks so sparse.
Adora's rival Catra is a standout villain. Adora herself hits all the tropes associated with being a chosen one, though still given a shocking amount of balancing traits. Not only is she not a Mary Sue, an episode pokes fun at her starting to think she is. Several episodes humble her, though that might be a case of 'Benching Superman' since given who her traditional brother is - she is still justifiably OP. On the elephant in the room: A few references are made to Eternia, established as some other planet. And obviously Greyskull is in her morphing time chatch phrase. But no; specifics are not expanded upon on Eternia, Greyskull, or He-Man. In fact Adora is rebooted as SPOILER: show The fabulous horse with the rainbow wings is back and I shit you not you will not believe in what way he will be used to satire, and who he satires. I legit laughed out loud. I'm not even sure he's actually satire, but I laughed. As with a lot of content from female Progressive writers all the female characters kinda come off as socialite valley girls, but I'm not the target demo so eh. I'll live. Decent show. |
i really wanna go on about Catra but that's longform shit. I really, really like her.
|
I've started watching SSSS.Gridman. Seems v weird so far. Dunno how I feel about it. It's like a bunch of anime clichés of differing types all stuck together. Fortunately it has one really interesting hook, so I'm going to give it a bit more time before I decide whether or not I like it.
|
There's a fuck ton of Transformers References in the damn show.

Psycho-Pass is the tiddies. Love this show. One of the best anime I have ever seent.

Gridman SSSS might be in a bit of trouble. Seems another anime animator is accusing TRIGGER of plagiarism and it's pretty blatant too.
|
Yea I just looked at the scene in question. No tracing but it is literally 1:1 the same scene, just redrawn.

There was no scale. Seeing in scale the fact that she essentially She-Hulks and grows about a foot and a half taller, becomes meatier than Adora as opposed to just a palette swap, it looks a lot better in action than out of context. Also, here, EVERYONE knows she's She-Ra. It doesn't remain some "secret"; it is revealed to pretty much everyone at all times. Also, the transformation sequence seems to be a tad more Sailor Moon inspired than the OG source, and thankfully isn't done all the time. To me, this feels almost on par with the '02 MotU reboot in that it makes the world and lore make a bit more sense. This She-Ra isn't a girls' "me too" for jumping on the He-Man cash cow like in the 80s. On that, as for the previous spoilery thing SPOILER: show Also, Hordak is kinda badass in a really understated way. He doesn't really do shit, but everyone is shook. They *show* the type of ability and fear Shadowweaver instills, and she "knows better" than to directly test him. He isn't flashy or speechy, but everyone is aware that he is in charge for a reason. I dig that. I'm down for more of this, if they clean up some of the writing. Yes, I understand I'm clearly not the target demo, but the only problem I had with the show as a whole is how quickly some of the plot tone changes from "this show is for little kids, cut us some slack" to "kids are smart enough to understand and follow" and back again. On one hand, you have a 22 minute lesson learning bout of melodrama with something that should be easily solvable but, you know, for kids, so we can't make it complex... but then turn around with deep effects of manipulation and abuse that spans for the whole season and makes some of the relationships not as simple as hero vs villain. Seems like they should be able to manage that better, but it wasn't a total deal breaker for the watching... I mean it has some flaws, but it isn't like it was season 1 of Iron Fist. |

Even the one counter point gesture with the prom thing was very clearly painted as friendship with no hetero signs. And again other than aesthetics and undertones none of this is shoved down your throat. No pandering, no lectures outside of the usual cartoon PSA morality. She-Ra is alright. |

Oh hey guess what's coming to Netflix
Eva. Random. Oh and Ultraman. |
Psycho-Pass 2 is also v excellent, although a bit shorter than I would have liked.
On to the Psycho-Pass movie. Heard they are releasing 3 more movies next year too which is awesome. |
Netflix has announced they will be making a 10-episode live adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.
Shinichiro Watanabe, director of the original anime, is on board as a consultant. Chris Yost, who wrote the scripts for the last 2 Thor movies will write the first episode and will be an Executive Producer.

Guess it’s time to announce that Cowboy Bebop, the live-action series, is heading to @Netflix. pic.twitter.com/bKe0d8EKoH
— NX (@NXOnNetflix) November 28, 2018
 https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/11...o-netflix?read |
They better not fuck it up. Cowboy Bebop is the greatest thing ever.
|
Psycho-Pass movie is just as good as the series. The set up of the series makes it a really good fit for movies. Stoked for the next one in January.
Moving on I think I'm going to give Tokyo Ghoul:Re a go. My understanding is that the original 2 seasons, while semi popular, pissed a lot of people off because they strayed from the manga too much or something. I thought this was going to be a pure reboot, but it seems like a time skip and using that to change the set up of the show instead. I dunno. Hope it's good. I was actually a fan of the original and hope they didn't damage what I liked about the show in the first place. |

Well...it wont be lol
13 hours condensed into...200 min? Yeah. |
As long as they do the characters justice, I'm good with it.
|
I'm thinking they will completely cut all the stand alone episodes out and maybe the series will focus solely on the core storyline of spikes life.
|
Wait...series? I misread and thought it was a movie...this has more potential
|
Any Blade Runner fans here? You'll like this.
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, and Alcon Television group are going to join forces and produce and distribute Blade Runner-Black Lotus. This will be a inspiration series to last year's (underappreciated, in my opinion) film Blade Runner: 2049. Sola Digital will be putting it together. With Shinji Aramaki, director of Appleseed, and Kenji Kamiyama who oversaw Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex taking turns as directors. The Wrap broke the news, so here's a link. https://www.thewrap.com/crunchyroll-...e-runner-2049/ |
I am totally down for that. Blade Runner is incredible and Ghost in the Shell is another of my all time favorites.
|
Continuing ever onward with my incessant binging of anime, I have caught up on Tokyo Ghoul:Re. It's ok but I like the pre RE stuff better.
Now I'm going to check out a new anime that recently started called That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. |
Ghoul had about 20 good eps and went to shit fast
Let me know about slime. Ive almost started it a few times |
Destor. Watch it.
Only 6 eps dubbed thus far and not many more subbed past that as it is a new and ongoing series....but seriously.....watch it. I sincerely believe you will come back sharing my new found passion for this show. I want this show turned into a game NOW. It is literally the PERFECT set up for a new take on the classic JRPG. You'll see what I mean. |
I see the Hunter X Hunter Manga has been moving forward again. Hopefully he finishes it up this time around so the anime can start back up. I need to know what happens to Gon damnit.
|
Hulu subscribers, you've just hit the jackpot.
Hulu and Funimation have agreed to multi-year deal with will greatly expand Hulu's anime offering greatly. https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/12...39c3747d000a1b |
So it IS an evil plot to take over the world. Or at least take my money.
|
Watching D.Gray-man now. I used to watch it way back in the day on Netflix but they didn't have the whole series so I never finished it. Gonna watch the rest now and the follow-up.
|
Random question I have always had.....why do so many anime/manga have names that make absolutely no sense?
|
Japanese language is weird man. Just accept it and move on.
I mean I have no clue why Bleach is an anime/manga about grim reapers fighting monsters from beyond the grave but there it is. |
Two theories (neither official)
1. Soul Reapers cleanse souls like bleach cleanses stains 2. Creator is (legit) a huge Nirvana fan I think 2 is most likely true |
Time to watch this weeks eps of Slime and Black Clover, then back to D.Gray-man.
And I don't mean ones that are named like Bleach. I mean ones that use made up words and symbols and shit as their title lol. One I have always liked that has a ridiculous title is s-CRY-ed. Like....wtf is that. That is not a translation issue lol. |
I need Bleach to come back. Need all those badass bankais animated.
|
I concur.
|
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime coming in 2020 to Netflix. Finally get a 3rd gig.
|
Finally decided to buy a subscription to Funimation. 6 bucks a month isn't bad for the simuldubs and increased quality over bootleg streams.

Uhg, found another one of those anime that is bad ass but gets cut short -_-
It was called Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign and was made by the same people as Attack on Titan. I personally find it to be about a million times better than the hype machine that is AoT. Especially dug the art style. Kind of gritty, not as well drawn backgrounds, similar to Cowboy Bebop, but with super clean and well animated characters. Sounds like a weird mix but it looked really really good imo. |

Still watching Goblin Slayer.
I mean Animation is sorta meh but I love the fact he only wants to kill Goblins and doesn't even have the slighest clue what any of the other races are outside of Humans and Goblins. |
So my town isn't going to get the Broly movie, and I prefer subtitles anyway, so I just downloaded a cam version and watched it.
First impressions are this is the best Dragon Ball movie ever. It's a little over half the movie before any real fighting starts, but I was very entertained for all the set up. Lots of really cool flashbacks and insight into the saiyan empire and their relationship with Freiza. Some new characters introduced that I genuinely liked and enjoyed. Broly is given a bit more of a personality. Not much, but the important thing is you're given more reason to care about him than the previous version. Then the fight starts. And holy shit is it good. Forget about this being the best that Dragon Ball has ever looked, this is one of the best looking anime I've ever seen. Fucking tremendous stuff. |
They added more showing in my town, so instead of a 7 and 9 pm showing, which cuts into sexy time, There is a 1:15 showing, so planning to go see that next thursday.
|
Godzilla Anime 3 is out.
|
Started watching My Hero Acadamia. It's good. Very good even. But holy shit are there some serious parallels to Naruto. To the point where it feels like a straight reskin at times.
Incredible dub though. One of the few shows where I prefer it to the subtitled version. |
The promised Neverland is on Hulu you worthless bitches

Next season of Dragon Ball Super currently rumored to be starting this July with an official announcement rumored to be made by late next month.
|
Yeah cannot wait for that.
It seems to be going one of two ways, they could do similar to the previous Super-movie releases (Battle of Gods and Frieza) and make them into story arcs with Broly. But I think this whole shit with Vic Mignogna may have stopped that dead in its' tracks. The manga/comic book version though seems to be about some wizard who grows more powerful by eating planets' energy. I did hope the Broly stuff would have come first, but last I read Vic seems to have been thrown under the bus. |
Why would a Japanese studio care about an American actor getting railroaded?
|
Cause he's the voice of at least one of their characters? Honestly, I don't think Toriyama gives two shits who's voicing who as long as they emote right.
|
He's just who Funimation hired. They have their voice actors to worry about. Vic will likely be replaced in the new saga if all the drama holds. Luckily it's not like this Broly was very talkative.
|
Indeed he was not. But I don't think he was that talkative in the first series of movies barring the whole "KAKAAAROTTTT!" stuff.
https://twitter.com/funimation/statu...87396209770501 Funimation employed him for quite a few things, whether that Twitter is run by US or Japanese I am not sure. But without even being guilty of anything he was shafted by Funimation (US?) even though a lot of the information seems fabricated. It is similar to how Sean Schemmel is Goku and Chris Sabat is Vegeta, they made the roles their own and became the characters. I am sure if they ended up having this levied on them there would have been a huge shitstorm. Albeit Chris and Sean both nailed Vic as well showing him zero support, which I thought was pretty disgusting and my opinion of them did certainly change! |
Rehashing the movies was one of the worst parts of super. Hope they don’t do it for Brody.
|
Yeah I wasn't too crazy about how they just threw him under a bus based on dubious shit.
They'll understand when it comes for them but until then I hope Vic gets his job back. |

If they work the Broly stuff into the series it would give them probably another 3 months or so of leeway in terms of the manga getting further ahead, giving them more content to work with before they have to worry about catching up again.

It seems in the past day or two Vic has been reinvited (After being removed a few weeks ago due to this whole saga) to the Kami-Con.
This has stoked up a few and some of the other voice actors pulled out "for safety". |
Oh yeah the guy's a loose cannon.
|
Finished reading Ibitsu. They really need to animate it. Hell, it would even translate wellinto a western style horror movie.
|
Netflix has announced the cast for it's live-action Cowboy Bebop series.
John Cho - Spike Spiegel Mustafa Shakir - Jet Black Daniella Pineda - Faye Valentine Alex Hassell - Vicious |
All those characters could potentially be translated well to a live action series.
The real trouble is gonna be casting and portraying Ed. That character is much more “anime” than the rest of them. |
Wonder if the live action series will settle the question of what happened to Spike in the end. The original anime series kept his fate vague.
|
I doubt it will even get thru the center of the original series run. And frankly I felt his fate was kinda clear.
|

Watching One Punch Man.
Glorious. |
One PUUUUUAAAAAAANCH
|
I really love this show. I will be sad when I finish the series and have no access to further monster mashing.
|
Well at least season 2 has finally started. And if you like One Punch Man then you should give Mob Psycho 100 a chance next. Kinda similar type of set up.
|
This is the only anime I have ever seen besides Pokemon when I was about 12. Bill Burr put me onto it.
|
I like the bureaucracy of the superhero system and the moments where Saitama sacrifices his public image for the good of the cause. Mostly I just love how easy the fighting is and how hard his life seems to be. Great stuff.
|
Yeah the whole easy fighting, hard life thing is where it is similar to Mob. There's a bit of bureaucracy in the school leadership hierarchy but not to the extent of the super hero organization from One Punch Man.
|
Well the only version on Netflix is live action and I can't be bothered with that so I might try Baki or something else.
|
Baki was tough going. Too sincere.
Space Dandy now. May be too far in the other direction... |
Baki was kind of ridiculous. The main character doesn't even do anything throughout the whole season.
