Not really. What The Rock said (cough) kind of plays into what Punk was saying. The Rock made money because the WWE hype machine got thrown behind him. If Punk was ever pushed in a similar manner and given a chance to shine all over people, he could be just as big of a draw.

Am I saying that The Rock isn't talented? Not at all. He can light a mic on fire. Honestly though, Punk is just as good, if not better.

Londoner 06-29-2011 02:28 PM

This thread has just got me thinking how great a Punk v Rock match could be. Could still happen....?

HBPunk 06-29-2011 02:35 PM

If Rock would get out of his Fast and Furious bullshit, stop dressing like a tooth fairy and return to the place that created all that he is today, then who knows.

The Rock vs CM Punk for promos alone would be worth it. They could probably take up the entire 2 hours of Raw just talking and it would be epic

Londoner 06-29-2011 02:37 PM

And lets not forget the back n forth twitter comments between them.

It could, IF they did a mini mania tournament, which would be fucking awful.

Cena vs Rock
Austin vs Punk

Rock and Punk win, which ends with Rock and Punk closing mania.

I would buy that show in a heartbeat.

Londoner 06-29-2011 02:39 PM

Doesn't have to be at Mania, could be at Summerslam maybe.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-29-2011 02:42 PM

Doing it before Mania takes away from Cena vs Rock in my opinion.

Londoner 06-29-2011 02:43 PM

True, that's the annoying thing.

Dunno about that. Takes something really special to engage a crowd the way Rock does. Punk can do serious promos with the best of them and has never looked uncomfortable but at the same time he's never been the babyface relied on to sell PPV's, having crowds singing along with about 15 different catchphrases littered throughout a single promo whilst still getting the points across and literally creating a buzz/anticipation every time he picks up a microphone.

Anybody Thrilla 06-29-2011 02:55 PM

Yet.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-29-2011 03:05 PM

Punk will never be a babyface like the Rock was.

Punk is a jerk. He's an asshole. Pandering doesn't fit him. It doesn't work. If he's ever going to be a face and work, it'll have to be Austin style... He's not going to get over by playing up to the crowd and playing sing-a-long, he'll get over by calling people on their bullshit, taking the piss out of them, and calling it like he sees it.

Anybody Thrilla 06-29-2011 03:11 PM

That's why the feud would be amazing.

Testicle 06-29-2011 03:19 PM

More fuel for the fire. Good stuff.

HBPunk 06-29-2011 03:27 PM

Hey, check out the Randy Orton interview i posted, it runs about 40 mins, done the day of the first set of SD tapings before the tour over here. Its very good, very funny. Orton comes off well, very likeable

Ah, I'm confused. Was that a shoot or what?

ron the dial 06-29-2011 03:49 PM

or what more than likely

Innovator 06-29-2011 03:50 PM

Yes, complete 100% shoot. It just took them 6 minutes to figure out how to cut his mic.

HBPunk 06-29-2011 03:53 PM

HAHA Nice. Junior member, know your role

Innovator 06-29-2011 03:56 PM

Hey, they did their job if people ask if it was real.

The fact that in a tirade that took aim at the biggest stars the company has, past and present, the company ethos, the boss, his daughter and son-in-law, amongst other things, the only word censored was "douchbag" kinda gives it away.

James Steele 06-29-2011 07:37 PM

Is that what they censored? I was wondering what the hell he said.

Taker it Easy 06-29-2011 10:17 PM

The Rock is starting to sound like the old WCW guys, all about who draws the money. Also, he is sounding like the old guys like Dusty Rhodes who sit at the round table.

Juan 06-29-2011 10:18 PM

Taker it easy with posting your sig in every post

Rock Bottom 06-30-2011 12:34 AM

Check out the front page of TPWW, there is shit about Punk's status and mention of Heyman and Lesnar.

And a follow up to it

Rammsteinmad 06-30-2011 05:06 AM

Off topic, but in regards to the Lesnar/Heyman deal, my guess would be some kind of Legends deal, or something that allows WWE to use their likenesses. Action figures? DVD? WWE 12 even?!

Forgive me, I don't really watch WWE or wrestling at all anymore. I know it wasn't a total shoot, rather a "shoot-style" promo, I just wasn't sure if he legitimately "took it too far" and got carried away and went off script and that's why they cut his mic. It was just strange hearing him specifically mention other promotions and take some pretty serious shots at people which is why I asked.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-30-2011 10:40 AM

Hahaha, I love CM Punk if it's true about him trying to get Colt a spot on the main roster.

- Colt Cabana recently spoke with the Miami Herald about CM Punk leaving WWE, here are some comments from Cabana…
"From being laughed at by the trainers in Ohio Valley Wrestling to Paul [Heyman] finally bringing him up and everybody treating him like dirt, telling him he has an attitude problem and calling him the ‘King of the Indies,'. Just looking down on him, he just felt shunned his whole time there. It was a complete struggle."

"The power of him not really caring because he was ready to leave — I always said the power of not giving a s--- is so important. He is really at the point where he just wants to get out of there. It's too frustrating for him. If he said anything that made anybody mad, what are they going to do to him? Not re-sign him? He doesn't want to be there.

"So I think that idea is so powerful. He is so strong in his beliefs with the straight edge lifestyle. By being how strong headed that he is, he was able to have the power to go out on television and say what probably every other wrestler has wanted to say. He made unbelievable television. He made unbelievable history in wrestling.

"He almost has the ability to change professional wrestling as we know it. It has been so stagnant and vanilla. It kind of shook up the wrestling world because of his real life frustrations."

Was abit fucked while typing last night so got abit confused when responding to your post, lol. I was actually talking about sometime after next years WM.

James Steele 06-30-2011 01:46 PM

As awesome as the promo was, I am starting to think people are throwing the words "historic" and "revolutionary" out there way too much.

Innovator 06-30-2011 01:49 PM

Calm down Jimmy, don't get your panties in a bunch because he called Trips a doofus.

The Jayman 06-30-2011 01:50 PM

It was an awesome promo, but it wasn't "historic" or "revolutionary". It could lead to something "historic" or "revolutionary" but we said the same thing about the Nexus angle last year.

I don't think we'll know the impact until after the PPV. If they play it right and do something with Punk taking the belt, then it might well be the next big thing. It's certainly not going to change the industry like Austin 316, the NWO, or Hulkamania; but it will be the angle of the year - perhaps even of the decade.

In reality, looking at the possible various outcomes, the smart money is on Cena winning and Punk saying goodbye, even if just for a short while. That would put a lid on this whole thing, and means you will be absolutely 100% right.

Rammsteinmad 06-30-2011 02:57 PM

I really want Punk to win and take the belt to ROH (obviously scripted, but to add to the storyline).

WWE worked with ECW in the 90's, so this isn't unbelievable.
