True, if Joey doesn't flourish under Martz...then there's the door. I wonder when the first "Kitna" chant is gonna start? Say, snap #2 of the first preseason game? More than Martz, I'm excited about the defensive co-ordinator Detroit got from Tampa. The D played well for a while last season, but they got tired. It be nice to have an offense that can stay on the field longer.

I'm faxing my resume to Randy Moss right now.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-15-2006 03:50 PM

Uhoh

In a Wednesday column from Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, Kowalski predicted that Lions quarterback Joey Harrington "might be ready to move on."

As it turns out, he already is.

We've heard this afternoon that Harrington has asked the team to either trade him or release him, and that the team will accommodate his request before a significant roster bonus comes due on June 15.

Not long ago, new coach Rod Marinelli and new offensive coordinator Mike Martz publicly embraced Harrington, with Martz promising to strip Harrington down and build him back up. We're told that Martz and Marinelli weren't too pleased with what they saw from Harrington during recent workouts with Martz, which prompted the team to sign Jon Kitna, who specifically was told that he'd have a shot to compete for the starting job in Detroit.

Though it's not clear whether Harrington specifically was informed of the promise made to Kitna, Harrington is surely smart enough to realize that if Kitna wanted to be a backup he could have stayed in Cincinnati.

Bottom line -- Harrington has made it known he wants out, and the team is ready to make it happen.

The development likely will be viewed as a positive thing in the locker room. We're told that one of the Lions offensive lineman recently assessed the situation by saying, "We want the f---ker out."

Detroit Lions trade troubled QB and pick to Jets

Detroit got rid of troubled quarterback Joey Harrington only hours after he asked to be traded. The New York Jets traded their number 4 pick to the Detroit Lions for Joey Harrington and the number 9 pick. " I think we got a Pro Bowl quarterback and a top 10 pick out of the deal " said Eric Mangini. " This kid could win us some Superbowls. Not next year or the year after. I'm talking this year fellas. He's good" said Mangini.

Detroit was satisfied with recieving the number 4 pick and getting rid of what they thought might be a team distraction. " Its hard for me to get rid of a player that i hand picked myself. I thought the world of Joey. He had a great arm, great legs, pretty eyes. Its tough letting go, but the Lions organization must move on" said Matt Millen. Millen may have tipped his hand later on in the day during his reaction with the media. " Theirs alot of options we have with the number 2 pick overall in the draft. Right now i really like Santonio Holmes from OSU".

This is the best move by Detroit in a long time!!!!! A #4 pick, what are the Jet's thinking? No complaints here, but damn that doesn't make sense. Of course now, being the eternal pessimist Lion fan...they will draft Vince Young and turn him into the next Andre Ware ;)

Son of a bitch, I didn't read the whole thing...YOU BASTARD!!!!

Well let me share a little bit of literature from last season that pretty much sums up how we Lion fans feel about Joey:

Joey Harrington Traded To Vikings For Cow Manure

Bag of shit less expensive, has higher passing rating

DETROIT, MI--Finally caving in to the daily pleas of Michiganders, Detroit Lions President Matt Millen announced the trade of Joey Harrington to the Minnesota Vikings for one bag of Uncle Billy's Premium Cow Manure. The move comes after Harrington was benched in favor of equally hopeless, quasi-heterosexual Jeff Garcia. Harrington has had a typical Harrington-esque season, holding a 3-4 record with eight touchdowns, ten interceptions, and eighty- three suicides induced. The bag of shit is expected to bring a level of accuracy and manliness to the Lions not seen in Harrington or Garcia.

"This year the locker room smells like a sweaty prison of abysmal failure," remarks coach Steve Mariucci. "We need to take immediate steps to restore our below-mediocre image to the rest of the NFL. The pieces of shit here need to be pushed, eaten, clubbed, and tortured from the locker room, and by 'pieces of shit,' I mean 'white players.' The failure of this team has gone so far that ethnic cleansing is the only answer I can think of at this point."

Most pundits believe the "trade" does not benefit the Vikings. With Brad Johnson's 17th re-emergence in the NFL, Minnesota has gone 2-1 after Daunte Culpepper's knee turned into a tangled ball of knee ligament acronyms.

"At first, we were reluctant to take their piece of shit for our bag of shit because it is a terrible trade logistically," remarks Vikings' head coach Mike Tice. "Hell, the cow manure is worth at least $1.25 and doesn't have a terrible arm. I wanted them to throw in scalpable Super Bowl tickets or something, but in the end it was Zygi's decision. He may have a funny name, but he sure is rich."

"I believe this team needed a new franchise player," said Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. "Since Randy Moss took 47% of the nation's marijuana trade with him, I've got a business disaster on my hands. Harrington couldn't throw farther than my grandmother, but he'd be just the man to host the Minnetonka Love Boat debuting on FOX this summer. And by man I mean male hooker and by host I mean recipient of the love. Up the ass."

Controversy has surrounded Zygi's project due to the fate of previous show revivals, such as Press Your Luck 2005. Contestants played in Detroit where each whammy would bring out a black-skinned whammy that would rob contestants of their money at gunpoint. The show was abruptly canceled when secret footage showed female contestants being raped by whammies behind The Fist with contestants screaming "No Whammies! No Whammies! STOP!"

Zygi defends the show with a historical perspective, explaining Vikings' first voyage to Minnesota in search of women under 300 pounds. Finding cheap American hookers, they quickly assimilated into American life, moving upward into jobs of "Football Mascot" and "Bad Commercial Gimmicks"

Harrington seems to accept his new chance in Minnesota.

"At first I was apprehensive, but I'm looking forward to the chance," says Harrington. "I'm not particularly thrilled about the whole love thing, but I've been getting assfucked on live TV every Sunday for three and a half years. I just don't know what they'll use those Viking horns for."

Not all Detroit players are as thrilled as Harrington, however.

"Why couldn't I get traded to Minnesota?" asks Garcia.

RP 03-15-2006 07:27 PM

Santonio Holmes

Triple A 03-15-2006 07:28 PM

But anyway, I hear the Jets don't even want Leinart and they are trying to get Matt Schaub from Atlanta (in a trade for John Abraham) for some reason, but Leinart has been telling people that he would love to play for the Jets.

RP 03-15-2006 07:28 PM

" I think we got a Pro Bowl quarterback and a top 10 pick out of the deal " said Eric Mangini. " This kid could win us some Superbowls. Not next year or the year after. I'm talking this year fellas. He's good" said Mangini.

GUNNA KILL SOMEONE. Worst move ever. Even worse than trading away two 1st round picks for Dewayne Robertson.

They better take Lendale White or Deangelo now or else I will flip

Triple A 03-15-2006 08:02 PM

HE WAS JOKINGGGGG.

Nervous Ferret 03-15-2006 08:03 PM

Yeah I know, :shifty:

UmbrellaCorporation 03-15-2006 08:30 PM

Titans + Leinart = Instant Win.

Gonzo 03-15-2006 08:36 PM

Leinart to the Titans seems like a very distinct possibility, Norm Chow, they just signed David Givens. They have Drew Bennett, plus Chris Brown is a decent running back as well.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-16-2006 02:46 AM

McGinest signed with the Browns

Packers signed Pickett from the Rams

Chris Hope signed with the Titans

The Icon of Elisim 03-16-2006 01:18 PM

Josh McCown signs with the Lions, Harrington is most definetly gone

Jesus Shuttlesworth 03-16-2006 01:26 PM

I'm glad I spent 50 dollars on a McGinest Jersey before last season now :(

Gonzo 03-16-2006 01:31 PM

Yeah what a pain in the ass that is. I always think about that whenever I buy a jersey. I've only bought player's jerseys when I know they aren't going anywhere. I have Eli (Blue), Plaxico (White), Tiki (Old White), Shockey (Blue), Strahan (Blue). Those guys aren't going anywhere, and if they do it will be at the very end of their careers, in which they would just get remembered for being Giants anyway.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 03-16-2006 01:45 PM

Yea the only "save bet" is probably Brady but that is what all the girls rock. Don't wanna look like i'm gay or something.

I might get a white Vrabel now, we'll see.

The Icon of Elisim 03-16-2006 04:28 PM

Watson looks safe to me

Evil Vito 03-16-2006 04:30 PM

Keyshawn Johnson has expressed interest in the Giants :|

Fuck, I hope the feeling's not mutual...I don't want that cancer on the team

Jesus Shuttlesworth 03-16-2006 04:48 PM

Watson probably isn't safe though, if he has a monster year he might hold out or something because of his current contract.

weather vane 03-16-2006 04:53 PM

Best off season ever.

Keyshawn isn't that bad.

DrA 03-16-2006 05:31 PM

I think that these teams that are spending all of this money on free agency are going to ultimately regret it.

Usually there's a reason why that player was not signed back by his team in the first place. So now Washington has this stud safety in Adam Archuleta, as an example, but no one told the team about his bad knee (hypothetically). Now you have a gimp playing safety who you paid tons of money on and there's not really much you can do about it.

That's not the case with all players, obviously, but there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that goes on with all of this.

The Icon of Elisim 03-16-2006 06:01 PM

Thats true but you also have to look at how many new coaches there are this year that are trying to get guys that fit their system. They are trying to get their building blocks in place and maybe a veteran doesn't fit that mold. And its not just 1st year coaches that have to do this, lots of second year guys are in the same boat.

Gonzo 03-16-2006 08:25 PM

This years offseason seems like a fantasy draft in Madden, thats the best way I can describe it.

D Mac 03-17-2006 03:27 AM

The Chiefs brought in cornerback Will Allen from the Giants for an interview. Is he any good?

I guess that's what happens when you start booing a guy after an MVP season and cheering for an average joe. Maybe we'll draft Brad Smith now :shifty:

Suck it, Alphabean..
