@Inno re: Gronk

I don't think they talked about it on the podcast, I'm pretty sure it was in last week's mailbag

road doggy dogg 01-14-2015 10:45 AM

Q: Hey Bill, I knew you were a HUGE Gronkowski fan. I just never pegged you as the type of guy to ghost-write erotica about him.
—Ross, Los Angeles

BS: Congrats to Ross for being the 3,000th reader to send me some variation of this joke. Is it weird that “A Gronking To Remember” gave me more confidence that the Patriots could make the Super Bowl? Can’t you see Lacey Noonan at media day trying to get a one-on-one with Gronk as three middle-aged reporters in Hawaiian shirts look on awkwardly?

Innovator 01-14-2015 10:55 AM

Oh it was on Fighter and the Kid, thinking back on it

Del Rio's gone. One less name to consider for the Denver job.

Dick LeBeau resigned from Pittsburgh. I would love it if Elway could somehow get him to come over. Give the Defense an immediate kick in the ass.

49ers hired Jim Tomsula as their new head coach. Was promoted from his defensive lines coach job.

Police, according to the report, determined the man was McNary after investigating a cellphone the woman claimed she took from the man's apartment.

In the report, police said the woman also picked McNary's image out of a group of photos.

The police also wrote that when they arrived at McNary's apartment to investigate, McNary said: "I know why you're here." The report said McNary claimed to have preserved evidence because he expected the police would be coming.

Hope this isn't like 2007, where Moss was put up with bullshit charges the week before the Superbowl.

Luck will find a way this week. The Colts are going to the Superbowl.

Hope everything coaching wise gets settled soon. The only story after Sunday in the NFL should be the Super Bowl. They should have a no moves until the Super Bowl is over. Distracting playoff bound coordinators with interviews negatively effects the teams they are still working for.

#1-norm-fan 01-16-2015 06:19 AM

Can a coach interview while he's still working for a team who is alive in the playoffs? I thought teams had to wait until a coaches season was over.

Ruien 01-16-2015 06:23 AM

They can get permission technically. Rarely happens.

road doggy dogg 01-16-2015 08:28 AM

I always thought that was strange, how coaches on teams can actively pursue other gigs. It's their prerogative, sure, to try and get a better job, but to me as a player I would think, "This coach already has his foot out the door, why should I listen to anything he says?" or whatever. I don't know. Paid professionals I guess

screech 01-16-2015 08:33 AM

I feel like announcers have talked about a v different coordinator interviewing for a coach job in every playoff game so far. Seems odd that teams would allow that. I'd rather have the staff focusing on the games.

All of the numbers would indicate that this is not a good hire and that they'd have been better served rolling the dice on Pepper Johnson or something. He's done basically nothing since leaving the Giants and they don't have anywhere close to the same personnel they did when he was here.

But I'm so pumped from a nostalgia standpoint that I love the move.

Innovator 01-16-2015 01:19 PM

Yeah but still

That's why they should ban all interviews. It gives non-playoff coaches an advantage because they have free time because they didn't get into the playoffs.

poopfromweiner dude 01-16-2015 04:53 PM

What a weird perspective

McLegend 01-16-2015 05:19 PM

Believe it or not, and I do not believe it.

STD is 100% right in this regard. All coaching interview should take place after the Super Bowl. I think it's an unfair distraction for playoff teams.

#1-norm-fan 01-16-2015 08:08 PM

Yeah, it's pretty dumb for all the reasons stated.

ClockShot 01-16-2015 08:47 PM

I don't want Gary Kubiak as a coach. Hope someone else comes along.

screech 01-16-2015 11:32 PM

What do you think of the rule change I put out?

Droford 01-17-2015 02:19 AM

I never imagined Kubiak staying in Baltimore more than two years given the head coaching volatility in the nfl and his experience so if he leaves whatever i guess.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-17-2015 03:25 AM

I think he could have. He almost had a stroke during a game with the Texans. Less stress being number two.

I agree with you. Coaches in the playoffs still have work to do and should focus on that.

Evil Vito 01-17-2015 10:51 AM

Adam Gase officially interviewed for the Broncos job. Sounds like the interview went very well, enough so that Teryl Austin has pulled his name from consideration when he was going to interview today I believe. This complicates things for Denver as they can't hire Gase until they fulfill the Rooney Rule requirements, so they are now reaching out to Bengals secondary coach Vance Joseph in what could wind up being little more than a token interview.

I get why the Rooney Rule was put into place but stuff like this just makes it seem like a joke especially if it winds up essentially boiling down to an internal promotion.

Won't matter who the coach is. Broncos will still blow

RP 01-17-2015 03:54 PM

Pagano with the classic Belicheat move of listing Vontae and Greg Toler as questionable. I'm pretty sure those guys are playing.

Crimson 01-17-2015 06:01 PM

They should do the same thing the Pats did to Baltimore last week.

Bill Belichick's move is to list people as Probable. Which cannot be denied. Everybody is Probable.
