Top of the 4th is exhibit A for instant replay

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:32 PM

My knees hurt when I watch Vlad run

Dragon 10-20-2009 10:34 PM

Replay should still only be for homeruns though.

Its not often this many obvious blown calls happen in one game.

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 10:39 PM

I don't know about that one there guy, I don't watch baseball too often, but when I do it seems there are multiple terrible calls per game. Post season or regular. Replay needs to be for pretty much everything if the umps are gonna be consistently terrible. If bad calls were more rare then yeah, keep it to just HRs, but that's not the case. The league needs to make it so the players/managers decide the outcome, not shitty calls by the umps

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:39 PM

Just have one ump or guy upstairs, call is blown, he radios down

It'd be faster than NFL replay

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 10:40 PM

I dunno, that might be how umpires are trained to watch that play. Watch the catch and see the runner leave in peripheral vision. I'd have to ask my umpire friend

Still definitely got it wrong though. Playoff pressure gets to umpires as well

Dragon 10-20-2009 10:43 PM

Every baseball game would literally be 5 hours long if every play is reviewed. The human aspect of umpires and baseball is part of the game. Definitely frustrating when calls are so obviously wrong but its part of the game.

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:43 PM

No need for replay on that one

AN AAAAAAAAAAAABOMB FROM AAAAAAAAAAAAAROD

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:45 PM

Kate Hudson loving must be the best kind of loving

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 10:45 PM

Imagine if there was instant replay on every bang-bang play at first. Wow

Umpires are there to get the calls right though, not fuck it up only sometimes.

And I don't think I've ever seen a call in need of review that needed more than 2 minutes of checking out. Couldn't possibly be that big of a deal or game extender

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 10:48 PM

Unlike NFL reviews, which are insanely drawn out. What happened to that time limit they had?

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:52 PM

Keep scoring guys, we need a lead big enough so Girardi can't screw it up

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 10:52 PM

WOW

worst baserunning ever.

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 10:53 PM

REPLAY LETS GO

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:53 PM

AHAHAHHA, umps are horrible here

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:53 PM

Jorge you are the worst base runner ever

Innovator 10-20-2009 10:54 PM

no HIP HIP for you tonight

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 10:54 PM

There are at least 51 outs called in a game of baseball. Can you imagine if all of them were subject to review?

Umpires have terrible games. I say this as another horrible piece of umpiring cost the Halos a deserved double play. It happens. And it evens out over 162 games

McLegend 10-20-2009 10:54 PM

hahahahaha What horrible baserunning, and a horrible call.

Dragon 10-20-2009 10:55 PM

LOL wow. Another blown call is really hindering my argument here.

Posada was screwing up every possible baserunning move in that inning.

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 10:58 PM

It's the way it has to be though Dragon. The amount of close calls and bang-bang plays in a game of baseball, if you reviewed all of them you'd add hours onto the game.

Umpire's judgement is generally very good. Somebody once showed me super-slow-mo of 100 bang-bang plays at first and the calls MLB umpires made, 99 of them were right.

Exactly. No matter what anyone says, there usually aren't this many ridiculously bad calls in a game usually.

I've seen a couple HR replays since that rule was put in place and a couple of times it took like 5 minutes. Would just be insane to have everything put up for replay.

Come on now, you know no where near that many would even need to be considered. With the immense amount of fly outs and easy tosses to first that number shrinks drastically.

Baseball is a game that's so easy to review it just doesn't make sense that they don't have it. As I said before, a minute or less is all it realistically takes to figure out what happened. Hell, with that time frame if they had a replay official who's job it was to just watch the replays, he could override the call before the next batter even got to the plate. No ridiculous slow down at all

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 11:01 PM

In the very least replay should be necessary for the playoffs, in my opinion

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 11:05 PM

Also, a replay review guy sounds like an incredible job to have

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 11:13 PM

Do you know why you never see an umpire change their call?

It's a respect thing. They're in charge of the game, and their call is final. Even though they aren't perfect, they're generally quite close.

Baseball umpires are probably the most respected officials in sports. You can't even walk up to one of them and say 'you'. You gain nothing by allowing their authority to be undermined.

toxic rooster 10-20-2009 11:14 PM

That could have got ugly for the Yankees too.

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 11:15 PM

I understand the respect thing, but I much prefer getting things right than proving a point

FearedSanctity 10-20-2009 11:36 PM

Did I miss something about Posada being nailed in the head or something? Jesus

Innovator 10-20-2009 11:55 PM

JackO said it best: Is Posada playing this game drunk?

OssMan 10-21-2009 12:05 AM

Fundamentals there Jorge

Innovator 10-21-2009 12:46 AM

Molina won't make those baserunning errors...

mainly cause he won't be on base

Loose Cannon 10-21-2009 12:48 AM

Molina looks like he's never held a bat when he is up there

Innovator 10-21-2009 12:50 AM
