Also, how fucking weird is it that in the '01 WS, it went 'til Nov. 1, and this is the first WS since then that will go at least until Nov. 1, and the Yankees somehow end up back there again.

Something's gotta give...either the Yankees winning the only two World Series' ever to end in November, or the Phillies winning back-to-back championships, but I do hope ever so much that it's the latter of the two.

Umm... DBacks won in '01

Worst. World Series. Ever.

Suppose it's the only appropriate way to finish off one of the worst years in Mets history.

Hey. At least one of them is going to lose.

Yeah, unfortunately there is that's when game 3 is. For like 20 minutes I had no idea what you were talking about and then I remembered Halloween was on Saturday. I am so glad I live on a dead end. We don't really get to many trick or treaters because of it.

Triple Naitch 10-26-2009 12:22 PM

Phillies just got the kiss of death with DAMN iNATOR's support.

Tigers, Lions, Red Wings. :nono:

Loose Cannon 10-26-2009 12:31 PM

I'm going to have to lock myself in manland during Trick or Treat time because my living room is a straight shot from the front door and these kids don't need to be hearing some of the words that come out of my mouth. Especially when Posada is batting

Loose Cannon 10-26-2009 01:58 PM

so my uncle had tickets to Game 7 ALCS.

How much money down the toilet? Or does he get a refund?

Loose Cannon 10-26-2009 02:17 PM

he just sent me an e-mail this morning, so I don't know yet. I am hoping he got a refund. I think that's how those work

Evil Vito 10-26-2009 03:01 PM

Yeah you get refunded if the game isn't played...not always in a timely manner, but you get refunded.

Interesting move in St. Louis, Mark McGwire is the new hitting coach. Matt Holliday has worked closely with him so perhaps its a move to entice Holliday to stay.

Evil Vito 10-26-2009 03:03 PM

Stolen from a blog:

McGwire: See, what you want to be doing is hitting dingers.
McGwire: When you go up there, first pitch, you're looking dead red so you can hit a dinger.
McGwire: Sometimes you're gonna miss. That's okay. Stick to your guns. There's no more efficient way of scoring than hitting a dinger. That's what we want to be doing.
McGwire: The pitcher might pick up on your strategy. Don't worry about it. He's more afraid of you than you are of him.
McGwire: If he throws you something offspeed, like a curveball, don't be fooled. Just hit it for a dinger.
McGwire: Walks are good too. If the pitcher tries to get you to chase something out of the zone, don't swing at it.
McGwire: You only want to swing at strikes. Take balls. Hit strikes for dingers.
McGwire: Now let's break up and practice. Group A, get in there. I want to see you guys hitting dingers. Group B, practice your dinger swings.
McGwire: Who's first in Group A? Skip? Get in there, Skip.
McGwire: Let's see some dingers!
Schumaker: ...
Schumaker: Coach, I don't
McGwire: What're you doing over there?
McGwire: You're standing on the wrong side of the plate. Bat righty.
McGwire: You hit dingers batting righty.

Watch the Yankees sweep. :nono:
Ratings tank.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-26-2009 06:14 PM

Yeah definitely gonna be a ratings disaster with teams from the largest and 5th largest market in the country playing.

Defending champs vs. the most successful professional sports team in North America

Michael Ian Black on rooting for the Yankees: ("via" ry)

http://www.michaelianblack.net/blog/...o-yankees.html

Quote:

The Yankees are in the World Series for the first time in six years. I have mentioned before how difficult it should be for me to root for the Yankees since it’s sort of like being in high school and cheering for the most popular kids to become more popular. And yet, I cannot help myself.

[...]

In every other aspect of my life, I will continue to identify with the misfits and losers. As people they are more interesting and fun to hang out with. I mean, I love Derek Jeter, but I wouldn’t choose him as my Scattergories partner, the stiff. But I have one small place in my life where I am the guy with the brightest teeth. That place is my love for the Yankees. May they destroy those scrappy, fucking underdog Phillies.

One of the most hated teams vs a team nobody cares about except Pennsylvania.

terrible ratings

D Mac 10-26-2009 09:38 PM

Nothing to say Supreme? That's a first. :p

Supreme Olajuwon 10-26-2009 09:42 PM

The Northeast alone will make this a highly rated series. Throw in that the Yankees have a global fanbase and there's no way you can convince me this series won't get good ratings.

D Mac 10-26-2009 09:44 PM

It all depends on the 1st game. They all do really. A blowout will probably turn people off.

Triple Naitch 10-26-2009 09:45 PM

Saying the Yankees don't draw is like saying the Cowboys don't. As much as they are hated they are loved. That and they're going up against a team that is one of the top 5 media cities.

Dragon 10-26-2009 09:47 PM

What series would you actually expect to get good ratings if you think Yanks/Phillies won't?

McLegend 10-26-2009 09:51 PM

Guys, for my baseball rating information I go to Diesel Mac.

D Mac 10-26-2009 09:52 PM

Royals v Cardinals :shifty:

Loose Cannon 10-26-2009 10:18 PM

LOL Diesal Mac, are you actually being serious here? I thought you were just joking at first, but I guess not.

D Mac 10-26-2009 10:33 PM

I just don't like em that's all.

Boomer 10-26-2009 10:43 PM

I think it will be a good series. Don't really care who wins, I just want it to be fun to watch.

Skippord 10-27-2009 12:45 AM

I don't care for either team but I'll probably watch every game

fucking hate watching AL baseball though

Nervous Ferret 10-27-2009 12:51 AM

Yankees > your favorite sports franchise

D Mac 10-27-2009 01:31 AM

I don't fucking think so asshole.

Skippord 10-27-2009 02:22 AM

well your favorite sports franchise does suck a fat one Diesel

Jesus Shuttlesworth 10-27-2009 03:07 AM

Can anyone tell me for sure that Pedro isn't pitching in Yankee Stadium? I

From what I hear there's nothing definate. Manuel doesn't "rule out the possibility" of starting Pedro in game 2 but other then that the Phillies are keeping quiet. Much like who's pitching for the Yankees in game 4 this time.

McLegend 10-27-2009 11:34 AM

Pedro is pitching game 2 at Yankee Stadium.

Loose Cannon 10-27-2009 01:24 PM

awesome. I can't fricken wait for that.

Splaya 10-27-2009 01:41 PM

I'm gonna be honest. I'm a diehard Tigers fan as you guys know. I have not watched a full game since the 1 game playoff...

I plan on watching every game in it's entirety during this series. When the playoffs started, i said this would be the series you want to watch. Texiera versus Howard, Pedro's return to Yankee stadium (and at this rate it could be twice if it goes 6), Lidge with all the pressure, how CC and AJ hold up in the grandest stage of them all, and finally I cannot believe I'm saying this, but i want the Yankees to win so A-rod can get that monkey off his back

Dragon 10-27-2009 01:46 PM

Pedro pitching Game 2 in Yankee Stadium will be amazing.
