yah, the same. Like I'll obviously watch it but unless somebody asks me to go see it with them, I'll probably see it when the DVD rips go online and then buy the DVD when it's £3 in about 12 months. Still haven't seen Avengers

VSG 07-11-2012 10:07 AM

Brit hatred :'(

Corporate CockSnogger 07-11-2012 12:03 PM

Nah I was really excited for Avengers and went to see it as soon as it came out. And I figured I'd be just as eager for this, I like the other two Nolan Batman films as much as the next guy, but for some reason I just really don't feel all that excited right now. None of the clips I've seen have really peaked my interest much. I'll still probably go see it one of the first days its out though.

This summer's much-anticipated Hollywood blockbuster, "The Dark Knight Rises," is getting an unusual boost from Democrats and other foes of Mitt Romney who are eager to tie the Gotham crushing villain to the GOP presidential candidate. Their angle: the mask-wearing, "Venom" gas breathing bad guy has a name that sounds just like Romney's former investment firm that President Obama has been blasting as a jobs killer.
"Bane" is the terrorist in the new movie who drives the caped crusader out of semi-retirement in the final Batman movie. Democrats, who believe they have Romney on the ropes over the president's assault on his leadership at Bain Capital, said the comparisons are too rich to ignore.
"It has been observed that movies can reflect the national mood," said Democratic advisor and former Clinton aide Christopher Lehane. "Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on pillaging society," he added.

Epic. Just...epic.

Blitz 07-20-2012 05:24 AM

Here's that longer post...

SPOILER: show
-Even at nearly 3 hours, this is a jampacked film. And unfortunately the flip side of that coin means that a lot of things get rushed through (IE, Blake sussing out Bats' identity pretty darned easily...but at the same time, I kind of dug that, because really, who the hell else could Batman be? It was sort of refreshing to see someone just be like "Yeah that's you. Clearly"). You don't really feel the fact that all the events of the film, from the very beginning to the end, actually happen over the course of about a year.

-Really dig that they took elements from two of my favourite arcs, Knightfall and No Man's Land, and mixed them up into a new story.

-Bane. When Tom Hardy booked this, he had to know he was about to take on the most difficult role in recent film history. Not only does he have to follow Heath Ledger's titanic Joker (And Aaron Eckhart's equally revelatory Two Face), but he's tasked with putting a new spin of one of the most beloved comic book villains ever, who was already portrayed as less than a joke in a previous film. And he's gotta do this with a mask covering his entire lower face for 99.9% of his screen time. And the dude just dives in fearlessly. Great portrayal. I love the way he speaks in this almost...imperial tone. I remember when I read the novelization of Knightfall, Bane's voice was described as almost musical. This fits pretty well. Physically, he looks like an absolute mothefucker, so much so that I'm not really sure why they decided to put him in coats and long sleeves for most of his screen time. I would've loved if he'd had Trogg, Bird, and Zombie for sidekicks, but I can see why he didn't.

-Selina. I think Anne nails it. Incredibly sexy. Love the acrobatic, liquid fighting style she uses.

-Bruce. I like that they went from a film that was really Batman heavy (Dark Knight), to a film that was really Bruce heavy. Even when he's suited up, you see a lot more of Bruce shining through than before. I like that the years have taken a toll on him (though I didn't quite buy his transition from cane using near cripple to Batman shape. But I'll forgive it). I love the cockiness on this bastard, when Alfred is telling him about Bane and essentially saying, this is a bad motherfucker, and Bruce is just like whatever I'll just fight harder. There's a certain egotistical side to Bruce that never really gets explored. I liked that little bit.

-John Blake. Another typically solid Joe Levitt performance. About halfway through the film I was waiting for a "Well, John Blake is just my foster name. My birth name is Richard" or what have you kind of line. The line they went with is probably better, a neat little nod to his role with the overtness. The last shot of him in the cave is outstanding.

-The first Bane/Batman confrontation is a great, great scene. I love the way it's presented. No fast edits. No music. You can tell from the moment Bane steps out, that Bats is just royally fucked. The physicality of some of those blows...the way Bane near shatters the helmet...awesome. They don't have the luxury of the whole Knightfall arc to set up how Batman is already broken by the time Bane snaps his back, but I did like that in this flick, he's essentially broken as soon as he's in there. He's been out of the game for 8 years and is a shadow of his former self.

-I wish there'd been a quick scene to fully wrap up Scarecrow, but I'm ok without it.

-Even though you knew the Talia Al Ghul revelation was coming, I loved the way it was handled. Talia ended up getting short shrift in terms of screen time, but I think the revelation of her back story informs the character enough that you get what she's capable of.

-The ending. Best part. All the talk surrounding the film, all the speculation that Nolan would kill Batman...and he kind of does, he kind of doesn't. But he does something far ballsier. He exorcises Bruce's demons. One of the big themes of Batman, the "Is Batman a mask that Bruce Wayne wears" vs. "Is Bruce Wayne a mask that Batman wears", everyone always seems to fall on the side of the latter. I love that this film takes the opposite tack. At the beginning, Nolan has Bruce out of the cowl for 8 years. At the end, permanently. Brings a whole new dimension to the series' repetition of Thomas Wayne's "Why do we fall?" line. Bruce has finally picked himself back up.

Yeah man. Loved it. There's certainly flaws, but the greatness overrides them. What a goddamned trilogy.

AJ 07-20-2012 05:43 AM

Went to a Dark Knight marathon to watch the first two movies before a midnight showing of Dark Knight Rises...and I absolutely loved it and how they wrapped everything up.

SammyG 07-20-2012 05:59 AM

AMAZING. that was so incredible. However, my mood was ruined when I saw the shootings in Colorado. tragic.

VSG 07-20-2012 08:56 AM

Ya wtf I just read about it. I hope everyone else makes it out fine, so sad about the 12 victims though.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-20-2012 11:51 AM

Just got back, fantastic ending to the trilogy. It'd be very hard for me to say which of the three films I prefer, I don't think this exceeds the first two, nor does it fall too short of their greatness. Overall just a great trilogy throughout.

The Destroyer 07-20-2012 03:19 PM

Loved it loved it loved it.

Fantastic film, not sure if I'd rate it more highly than The Dark Knight or Batman Begins but it certainly did not disappoint. I wasn't really expecting much from Bane, but good on Chris Nolan and Tom Hardy for proving me very wrong.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-20-2012 04:44 PM

Loved the Arnie cameo as Mr Freeze as well.

CSL 07-20-2012 05:36 PM

and turns out the spoilers I mentioned before were true after reading Blitz's post :-\

Corporate CockSnogger 07-20-2012 05:41 PM

Even though I did enjoy it, I still do think my earlier preconceptions of it were pretty much what I expected. A really good film, but not quite up to the massive hype. I personally enjoyed Avengers a hell of a lot more, even though that's kinda comparing apples and oranges.

Tb1 07-20-2012 05:49 PM

Back in the theatre to see it again. Can't remember seeing a movie I enjoyed quite this much since Star Trek in 2009.

SPOILER: show
I loved the movie, I had a date with me, and she was totally buying bane as Ras' son. I felt like a dick spoiling it for her. She didn't believe me when I shouted Talia at the begining. then explained that she was the true child of Ras.

None the less, I wasn't quite content with the way shit ended. How the fuck can Blake take up a cowl/be Robin with only thirty seconds of advice from Bats (although I did dig the way he admits that he wears the mask to protect his loved ones, instead of himself)?

Batman's last interaction with Jim Gordon was so dope, like he was practicing a way to reveal himself all along Great writing, great acting.

John Blake just deduced Bruce's ID? C'mon! Bane/Talia knowing I can deal with, since Ras probably gave them that bit of info.

I was so amped for the first fight between Bats and Bane it was so phenomenal!

Best line in the movie: 'You know I have to kill you, You'll just have to imagine the heat'. Bane was pitch perfect all along.

VSG 07-21-2012 11:22 AM

Ya, Bane killed it totally.

Optimus Bone 69 07-21-2012 05:32 PM

Just back and in my wee opinion, thought it was the greatest movie ive seen in a long time
now not everyone will agree but that what i think
31 years old and had to do a few big gulps at the end
also when i first read night fall that that was how bane would speak
anyone else think that the judges role was originally for the Joker?

Damian Rey 07-21-2012 05:38 PM

Saw it yesterday and will go to my second viewing tomorrow.

SPOILER: show
I absolutely loved it. It is by and far, for me, the most emotional of the three. Even though he wasnt in the film as much as I was expecting, Michael Caine was absolutely brilliant. His performance brought me nearly to tears.

Anne Hathaway has silenced all haters. Her performance was excellent, and she had great, great chemiztry with Bruce/Bats. Didnt hurt that she was fucking gorgeous the whole time.

Bane was awesome. I can see people being upset that Atwoman offs him so abuptly, but really, I dont see a ton of other options, considering Bats wasnt going to do it.

Speaking of Bats, Bale delivered his best offering in this film. Hes been given more to work with than any other actor in the lead role, and he really ran with it. The hopelessnesd he evoked when Talia made her big reveal was awesome. Also, his seeming acceptance of his fate has hes flying the bomb to sea was great.

I love the ending. Bruce being able to finally find peace and happiness, and for his real father, Alfred, to finally be able to witness Bruce at peace, free of his demons, was the only way I csnnow ever see this film ending. I was of the opinion that Bruce should be Batman forever, but Nolan an co. did such a great job writing the end I cant help but love it.

Also, the clever, yet subtle way Bruce reveals himself to Gordon wast just fantastic, and so touching.

Other things I really dug; Bruce being out of game shape. Yeah, he owned the mercs and prettyy much beat the tar out of them, you could see howmuch of a tole it took on him.

Alsi, the Bane/Bats round one fight was just fucking brutal. Bane just beats the holy hell out of Bats. Its almost tough to watch. I loved that the second time around, Bane was still manhandling him, and only when Bats snips some of the tubing on Banes mask with his gauntlett fin does Bats really get to layinto him.

And while even more brief than Two-Face in TDK, Talias reveal and her monologue explaining her origin, along with Batman seeming in such despair, was so great.

So yea, cant wait to watch it again tomorrow. Thank you Chris Nolan for givibg me my all time favorite trilogy. And way to give your successor an impossible task.

The Destroyer 07-21-2012 05:53 PM

Anyone who didn't at least have a lump in their throat towards the end is dead inside.

i thought it was a little slow through most of it and didn't get most of the comic book references and what not. i got kinda scared that i wasn't going to enjoy the movie but the big climax and twist at the end made up for it

DaveBrawl 07-22-2012 12:45 AM

It was a great movie my only complaint, and it may have just been the theater I saw it in, but the music was so loud I couldn't hear the dialogue at points.

Damian Rey 07-22-2012 01:19 AM

Thats the film itself, not your theater. Id say I caught about 90% of the films dialogue.

I can honestly admit that when Bane had Batman wrapped in the noose (I think that's when it was) after Talia stabbed him, I honestly thought that's when they might have killed him. It's all 20/20 hindsight now that I look back, but it was an actual legit thought at the time. I loved how they teased him dying all throughout the last hour

This was incredible. Such an awesome movie. Everything came full circle and I really enjoyed it :y: Definitely delivered.

SPOILER: show

I saw the movie with a group of friends, and after the movie ended, everyone was split on the ending. Half of us (including myself) thinks Batman died in the explosion, and the other half believed he lived.

I thought the scene at the end with Wayne and Selena was part of Alfred's imagination, because there's no way that Batman could have escaped that atomic bomb in 3 seconds over open water, as it was supposed to cover a 6 mile radius (I know it's a Batman flick, but Nolan doesn't like to pull "unrealistic" or fantasy magic tricks with Batman).

Batman dying with the bomb just makes perfect sense to the story. After living a completely miserable/meaningless life for the past 8 years, he realized that his only purpose in life is to be Batman. This time though, it's apparent that he's physically and mentally beaten to where he can't continue to be Batman any longer. In Dark Knight he said "Batman has no limits," and he "can't afford to know them," but he finally realized that he had been pushed to the limit.

The "life after Batman" that he wanted can't truly exist since Rachael died, Gotham (even though he saved it) is still in shambles, and his mind and body barely escaped Bane and Talia, as he was over matched in pretty much every way. As he was coasting over the open water with the bomb, I was just picturing him imagining all these things and realizing his fate was to die a hero.

As for the whole "auto-pilot" thing, I felt that was told to the audience to let us know that Batman had the option to get out of the plane with the auto-pilot feature, but he chose not to.

Just my thoughts. K I'm done. But wow, the movie was incredible. Loved it! :y:

Was pissed because I didn't think Nowhere Man wrote a review yet but I just saw it. :)

Me too. I thought Bane was going to pick him up into a back breaker.
