And 5:15...

But I'll take some of the tracks happily.

Kalyx triaD 07-11-2008 06:31 PM

I played a few tracks with Figgy today and an idea came to me from on high: the Wii version of RB should have a mic large enough house a Wiimote. Using the motion sensing controls you can then hold the Wii-Mic closer to the TV(audience), prompting the crowd to sing along. I don't know how strong the wireless nature of the Wiimote is in regards to taking vocals, so the Mic shell should have a cord. In the end it would look ugly, but that's just an idea that popped in my head.

That drumset above looks absolutely scary. [/WTF?!]

My vocal work is getting better, not great; I still find myself screwing up easy songs.

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 01:28 AM

I havn't tried vocals on hard or expert yet, but I'm 5-starring every song I do on medium, first try. Just wanna get the medium and easy tour achievements then I'll move up.

And I've improved drasticly on guitar, since I last played kalyx in guitar gero III, so I'd like try a tug a war against him on RB.

Kalyx triaD 07-12-2008 01:41 AM

Anytime. Did you catch my ad-libs during our play session? I was wondering if it got through while we were playing.

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 01:51 AM

Couldn't make out anything you said besides "moving on".

Kane Knight 07-12-2008 10:39 AM

Anyone else hate suffragette city with a passion now?

I failed htis on expert like a dozen times in a row, then I breezed through the next tier with no problem. I mean, motherfucker. Also, I can play that motherfucker on guitar (Except the solo, but I can get 100% on that like 90% of the time), and it is not that difficult.

Pegasus Crawford 07-12-2008 11:38 AM

I hate Don't Fear the Reaper on Expert Drums. 5-starred every other song on that tier in career mode, and that song is blocking my way to the final set of songs. :(

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 12:57 PM

All I have left to beat on expert guitar is GGaHT and the Metallica DLC. I can probably get by GGaHT at this point with starpower, but those metallica solos are fucking ridiculous.

I was saying all sorts of craziness during some of the songs. Introducing the players and thanking the crowd, telling them we'll be back next year.

Boomer 07-12-2008 09:33 PM

I'm stuck on Orange Crush on expert drums. I keep getting a little better every time...but I just haven't been playing the game at all.

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 10:51 PM

Just made the transition to hard on drums, and already failed a song on second tier. Think it was the hives?

And after making it to the second half of the second solo of GGaHT on guitar, I retract my previous statement about being able to beat it soon.

Kane Knight 07-12-2008 10:56 PM

I'm still on Medium Drums. I want to step it up, but since my foot keeps spazzing on GGAHT, I'll probably continue on with Medium for a while. Feels so weird only playing some of the notes.

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 11:03 PM

Dude, tell me about it. GGaHT on medium drums should be on the last tier, just for nonstop ridiculousness of the final stretch. I actually paused the game, and rested my leg twice during that sequence. Thats how I ended up beating it. And still I managed to only just scrape by.

Don't wanna even think what its gonna be like on hard. At least I'm freaking killing the vocals.

Kane Knight 07-12-2008 11:10 PM

Oh man, yeah, I pasued it once, and probably should have again.

U-Warrior 07-12-2008 11:22 PM

I might just play all the DLC on medium drums first, before I continue hard. I have 173 songs and have barely touched the dlc for drums. Maybe by the time I do them all, I'll have a breakthrough and be able to tackle hard more effeciently.

Are these music/rythem games like that for anyone else? Like, I don't get better a little bit at a time. It's like every once and a while, I pick up the guitar, and I'm twice as good as I was the day before. One day, I simply "got" how to use the orange button. There was no gradual improvement. I just "got it" in one moment.

And it was the same in learning cascades and zigzags.

Kane Knight 07-13-2008 12:22 AM

Wow. You actually have more DLC than I do. Most people think I'm crazy to have as much as I do. I've got 139 songs counting the disc tracks.

I remember I was at an impass on GH and 2 before breaking through to Hard and Expert. I never really bothered on 3, because I just didn't like the tier that was slowing me down enough to continue. Rock Band's easier. but occsionally gives me trouble. I still have trouble with some of the solos, including Sandman on Hard, and haven't beat the Hard Tier yet, because GGAHT is insane

Now I'm sort of in the same place on drums, because it's new to me. I mean, I've wanted to be a drummer for years, but I didn't think I could do the limb separation bit, so before this, I'd never bothered. I've hit a snag right now (Again, GGAHT), and so I've mostly been playing DLC. Eventually, I'll get through it and work my way up to the hard tier, with or without more snags. The only thing that isn't that hard for me most of the time is vocals. Some songs fuck me up (Reptilia), and some songs I don't know well enough (Once again, GGAHT), but mostly, I can sight sing well enough to bullshit well enough until I can learn the songs. The one that confuses me is the OK Go song, because I should be able to trounce that. Nothing Short of Expert is a problem for me as a whole though, because I started out with a lot of experience in that field.

I doubt I'm ever gonna be an ace. My fingers aren't fast enough for flawless plays of tough songs, and my hands mimick each other, which means there's probably a finite cap on what I can do on drums. But in the meanwhile, I do improve with time.

Kane Knight 07-13-2008 12:27 AM

Also, one thing I hate is how I'll do five tiers without a problem, then get to a song I can't sightread. This is more a flaw with me than the game, but after I've done it so effortlessly, it pisses me off to have to go into practice mode and work on a single song. Especially the Bowie one, because I nailed the other songs in that tier (Even Black Hole Sun, which wanted to kill me) without any practice or whatnot.

I understand the importance of practice. I work on body memory all the time with guitar work, and fake guitar (Or fake drums, or fake bass) isn't really much different. You have to teach your hands to respond the way you want them to, but in a video game, I like playing on the fly.

On the plus side, the drum set is really helping me learn a lot of the things that have kept me away from the drums. I think if I ever make it to expert (And I probably will), I can probably actually teach myself everything else I need to know. Which is fucking awesome.

Boomer 07-13-2008 12:28 AM

I'm very surprised I've made it as far as I have with the drums. I've never done anything with a drum kit that wasn't horrible sounding. But even if I am on expert, I'd still be a pretty horrible drummer.

I still miss a ton of notes, but I think it has to do with the pads that I made for my drums to muffle the sound.

Kalyx triaD 07-13-2008 12:36 AM

Tell your mind to jump Index to Red before you need to.

U-Warrior 07-13-2008 12:37 AM

Well I have a lot of DLC for a couple reasons. One being music is one of my greatest passions in life. I was raised in a musicaly passionate household, so these rythem games get a lot more DLC love than any other game. And on top of that, I have one of the most broad tastes in music that you will ever see. So there isn't a lot of DLC there, in which I don't enjoy the actual song.

All that combined with the fact that I get paid well enough to drop 20 bucks on microsoft points each week, equals 173 songs on my game.

Kane Knight 07-13-2008 09:39 AM

While I'm similar, I could only see myself buying a few more songs than I already have.

GGAHT is fine where it is. What makes song hard is the fact that it's.... LONG. The song serves a purpose to improve your concentration and endurance.

Are you a musician? Because the guys at Harmonix are, and I think anyone who's actually gone through any form of musical learning would call bullshit on that sort of logic.

D Mac 07-17-2008 03:30 PM

EA has announced it will partner with MTV to include songs from the Madden 2009 soundtrack. Though no specific titles have been confirmed.

Kalyx triaD 07-17-2008 03:46 PM

Well Hammerhead's already on there.

ZOMG SHINEDOWN!!!

Would have rather they picked songs from their first album, but its not that big a deal cause all i care is that shinedown is in rockband! wooooooooooooooooo!

D Mac 07-19-2008 05:02 AM

A second pack for NIN. Bought the first one, but I've never heard any of the songs in this upcoming one. Will have to preview.

Metallica pack 02 better be on it's way.

Requiem 07-19-2008 08:24 AM

lol.. wow.. they could have picked a lot better songs for the NIN pack. Last will be pretty badass, Burn is a horrible choice for Rock Band. Just.. I don't see the point in it at all. Capital G, while being an amazing song, isn't suited for Rock Band.. but at least it's better than Burn. It will be alright for drumming and vocals.. -maybe- guitar. But they could have picked a lot better songs for Rock Band.

Boomer 07-19-2008 10:37 AM

I love how the beginning of Capital G always reminds me of The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson.

You never heard Last, which comes off Broken? Heresy.

You do know those kill the sensitivity, right? For the earlier model, that's BAD.

Boomer 07-23-2008 08:03 PM

Yeah I cut some mouse pads for my drums and I notice some hit pickup problems...but it does well enough. You do have to hit it harder, but it is still a lot quieter in my opinion.

Kane Knight 07-23-2008 08:36 PM

I have to fucking WAIL on my heads already. They're just not noisy enough to make the problem worse. I mean, I live in an apartment and I've got a guy upstairs whose TV I can hear like there's a hole in the floor. He hasn't complained about the noise yet, and if anyone was gonna, he would.

If my heads weremore senstive, though, I'd probably opt for silencers, though. That way, I could play at 3 in the morning and no-one would care.

All I have left on Solo Guitar Tour Expert is Highway Star and Green Grass and High Tides.

Boomer 07-24-2008 11:52 AM

I never completed GGaHT. Without a guitar with those higher frets I presumed (for me) it was impossible.

jcmoorehead 07-25-2008 09:43 AM

Got about two tiers left on Solo Expert for Guitar and just completed Solo Easy on the Drums. Was making slow progress through it on Normal but I just couldn't get the hang of it so I decided to go back to Easy. Not looking forward to GGaHT.

Haven't touched vocals in ages.

D Mac 07-25-2008 03:42 PM

Next week we have a nice little cross section of tracks. We have the amazing Testament, members of System of a Down in Scars on Broadway, perennial favorites Staind, and a .99 track from The New No 2. The Scars on Broadway track and the Staind track are both singles from their new albums being released through Rock Band. Awesome!

Tracks will be out on Tuesday on Xbox Marketplace and Thursday on the Playstation Store.

TRACKS:

Scars on Broadway - They Say $1.99 (160 MS points)

Staind - This is It $1.99 (160 MS Points)

Testament - Electric Crown
$1.99 (160 MS Points)

The New No 2 - Yomp
99¢ (80 MS Points)

All tracks are masters.

D Mac 07-26-2008 02:10 AM

Will probably get Staind, seeing as I am the only one on TPWW that doesn't think they're that bad.

D Mac 07-26-2008 04:33 AM

Got the Drum Silencers in today and tried them. Yeah, the sensitivity is down but just a little. Will probably just take a little getting used to. They quiet the drums down considerably, I recommend them.

Disturbed316 07-26-2008 03:53 PM

Staind's early stuff was alright, there most recent stuff though has been abit hit and miss.

It defies probability that on a board with such shitty tastes, you're the only one who would like such a shitty band.

You could have just taped mousepads over the drum heads.

Kane Knight 07-27-2008 10:50 AM

I know this isn't exactly tremendous news, but I managed to beat Flirtin', Train, and RTTH on Hard last night, all in one sitting. Almost five starred RTTH, to boot.

Than I got like 75% on GGaHT before failing out. I know it's not on expert, but being down to one setlist song on hard feels good. I've got most of the setlist on expert done, too, but that's less satisfying than finally beating Flirtin' on hard....

I'm a tier below you, D-Mac. Probably not for long, though I have errands now. :D

Hey Rockers,

Here's your weekly fixing of DLC for August 1st, 2008. We've got a second wave CrueFest pack and 2 tracks from System of a Down. Get into it!

Tracks will be out on Tuesday on Xbox Marketplace and Thursday on the Playstation Store.

TRACKS:
Crue Fest 3 Pack 02 - 240 MSP

Buckcherry – Rescue Me - 80 MSP

Motley Crue – Face Down In The Dirt - 80 MSP

Sixx AM – Life Is Beautiful - 80 MSP

Singles

System Of A Down – B.Y.O.B. - 160 MSP

System Of A Down – Toxicity - 160 MSP

All tracks are masters.

U-Warrior 08-01-2008 04:12 PM

I'll be getting SoD, but gonna wait for videos, before I get the rest.

Disturbed316 08-01-2008 05:50 PM

:love::love::love: SOAD :love::love::love:

Kane Knight 08-01-2008 06:02 PM

Why are we getting another Crue pack? Is there anything in there worth owning aside from MAYBE the Crue track?

D Mac 08-02-2008 01:54 AM

All the new Crue songs I've heard so far suck. :(

Pegasus Crawford 08-02-2008 07:54 AM

So my PS3's drive lens crapped out on me. Got a new PS3 and had to re-download all my DLC, and redo all my songs on Career Mode (I'll forever hate Orange Crush, Dead on Arrival, and Don't Fear the Reaper on expert drums). =/

Also did some modding on my drums (yay, it's my 4th set since January :shifty: ). Replaced the existing pads with the drum silencers, and put sheet metal under the silencers. Now I can wail on them without fear of cracking and won't disturb anyone too much. Also made my own support struts for the green and red pads so they won't snap off. Pictures to come.

On to the DLC... Saints of Los Angeles was okay, Down at the Whisky was meh, and from what I've heard from Face Down in the Dirt, it's bleh. :n:

On the fence about SoAD, don't know about the other two.

Couldn't you have backed up the data or swapped the HDDs or something?

Kane Knight 08-02-2008 09:42 AM

Gotta say, I'm actually kind of glad that I don't want any of the DLC this week.

On the other hand, it leaves me two tracks shy of 100.

Beat solo drum tour on medium.

BTW Shinedown - Junkies for Fame is now one of my favorite songs on here.

Junkies is better than most of the Sound of Madness CD. Plus, it's a fun track.

Kane Knight 08-07-2008 12:45 PM

Any of the DLC this week any good? Anyone who praises SOAD will be severely mocked.

D Mac 08-07-2008 03:53 PM

Kane Knight 08-07-2008 05:40 PM

Didn't think it was gonna be worth it.

U-Warrior 08-07-2008 10:07 PM

They seriously need more shinedown. Those two tracks are awesome fun on vocals guitar and drums.

Kane Knight 08-07-2008 10:38 PM

I'd buy the whole first album for sure.

D Mac 08-08-2008 04:01 PM

Greetings rock folk,

August 19th DLC is ready to be announced! This week we're hopping into the wayback machine and setting the dial for the early '80s. We've got a pair of tracks each from two of new wave's most influential and altogether awesome bands in Duran Duran and Devo! And as a special aside, the Devo tracks are new recordings from the band, made special for Rock Band! Each track goes for 160 MSP ($1.99).

Also this week we present a track from the Janitors, "Get Your Rock On," which is featured on the American Mall soundtrack. That song will go for 80 MSP ($0.99).

You'll be able to snag all of these tracks on Xbox Live Marketplace on Tuesday, and the PlayStation Network Store on Thursday.

TRACKS:

Devo - "Girl U Want" (new original recording) - 160 MSP - $1.99

Devo - "Through Being Cool" (new original recording) - 160 MSP - $1.99

Duran Duran - "Girls on Film" - 160 MSP - $1.99

Duran Duran - "Rio" - 160 MSP - $1.99

The Janitors - "Get Your Rock On" - 80 MSP - $0.99

All tracks are masters.
