If the gameplay's improved, I think I'll love this game.

More new info, collected from various new previews from various magazine/sites.

Quote:

-Underwater world (with underwater caves) and diving equipment confirmed.

-Side-missions similar to Taxi, Ambulance and Vigilante will be back but "probably not identical to the ones in previous GTAs" because they wouldn't fit in with the 3 main character personalities, but the "three will have odd jobs to do".

-Trevor will be the skilled helicopter pilot, Franklin the skilled driver and sniper, Michael the "smooth operator", skilled and versatile.

-Franklin is looking for a mentor and he finds one in Mike after they meet during one of Franklin's repo man jobs.

-Trevor is inspired by the typical GTA player that only roams around the game creating havoc, death and destruction.

-Mission types will vary among "big and small events , explosive, infiltration, super spectacular, family, invasion, hostage recovery, heists and robberies. Plus classic GTA missions but updated and improved."

-Cover mechanics have been greatly improved and cover will be very important in the gameplay.

-About the economy, Dan Houser says: "You will be able to spend money to buy interesting and fun things like expensive toys. We are still working on the economy but it will be a strong element in the game and players will be eager to make money to spend money. Something along the lines of "I went through all of this to make all this money and now I'm going to spend it on this crazy item."

-Dynamic music during missions (similar to games like L.A. Noire)

-No co-op for single player missions, but co-op modes will be featured in multiplayer.

-Big focuss on multiplayer with a lot of content to keep players busy.

-The song Radar Love was heard playing on the in-game radio.
Edit: More info.

Quote:

-Alamo Sea is the name of the Salton Sea like area.

-Radial menu to select the 3 protagonists.

-Switching in missions partially scripted - meaning, at times character switching will happen automatically.

-In final part of a mission in the demo, the player can decide which character to use.

-There are multiple different endings in the storyline which depend on the choices you made throughout the game.

-The storyline takes around 25 hours to complete.

-Map open from beginning, with the exception of some protected areas.

-A certain amount of money will be needed to gain access to some missions.

Multiple endings? Even more reply value. Rockstar knows how to win my heart.

CSL 11-12-2012 09:12 AM

I'd guess it means multiple endings in the same vein GTA IV had multiple endings

El Fangel 11-12-2012 09:22 AM

Id say there would be minimum of three, having one with each Protagonist. Then possibly between two and three each depending on your choices. with each. Im leaning on six as it would make sense if the final mission involved a choice of killing someone or not.

Drakul 11-12-2012 09:32 AM

There is one big story detail that could, and probably should, be considered a spoiler.

SPOILER: show
Dan Houser said we will play both the protagonist and the antagonist in GTA V.
Most are thinking this could mean Trevor turning on us and still being playable.

Big Vic 11-12-2012 10:40 AM

It will. On PC set to max.

I'm just hoping they actually optimise it on PC this time. GTA4 is still difficult to max out even on top end systems of today.

Obvious areas to skimp to save cash would be storage, either less mechanical storage or removing the SSD completely and the blu-ray writer.

This should run BF3 on Ultra fairly comfortably.

Haven't included a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers assuming you'd bring them from an old PC, but if you want a new gaming mouse and keyboard, my recommendations would be:

Best - Mouse: Roccat Kone[+] Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 Elite (SUPER ULTRA HD REMIX... That fucking title)

Awesome Budget - Mouse: Logitech G500 Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4

Not terribly confident in my ability to put that all together once the parts arrive. Unless it's just sliding stuff in, and there aren't many wires to connect.

Also, the CPU is store pick up only. Though it's not too bad of a price hike to get it delivered. Relitavely anyway.

It is ridiculously easy to build a PC. This was my first:

Game Informer did a fan Q&A. You can see a brief run down (typed by someone else) of what we were told below or you can read the full thing here.

Quote:

-You can't play the entire game as one character; sometimes you have to a solo mission as each character to advance the story.

-No co-op in the story.

-Some missions with all three characters you have to switch between them and then are given the opportunity to choose afterwards.

-Can't kill another character when playing as one of the three.

-Michael can walk around his house and interact with his family.

-Can buy new clothes.

-In free roam you choose to play whichever character you want.

-Each character is from a different part of Los Santos, but you can go anywhere you want.

-Natural Motion Euphoria used just like in IV, RDR and MP3.

-Entire map is open from the beginning.

-LV and SF definitely not in game.

-Downtown area of LS is smaller than Liberty City

-During demo, game and switching characters ran perfectly without lag.

-Swimming underwater confirmed, plenty of areas to explore.

-Plenty of boats and hoes.

-Internet on smartphone.

-Lots of TV shows.

-Trevor able to set things on fire when he wants, not just in missions.

-Each character has his own inventory and money. Subject to change before release, though.

-No CJ.

-No characters from III, VC or SA.

-Couple of familiar faces from IV will visit.

-Variety of races included; cars, bikes, triathlons.

-Still working on Wanted system.

-Rockstar didn't answer when asked if Xbox will have multiple discs.

El Fangel 11-17-2012 01:00 PM

Didn't you bitch about that when Saints Row did it?

Drakul 11-17-2012 02:04 PM

The interesting bits of an interview IGN did with Leslie Benzies, the producer of GTA.

Quote:

We do have a bunch of missions in GTA V that are far more freeform than anything we have done before. We tell you to go get something and the player decides how to do it - what characters they need on the job and what tools they need for those characters.
Quote:

Animals aren't just a backdrop - you can expect to see dogs guarding areas and causing the player trouble when they try to sneak past them.
Quote:

the player wants to get their hands on one of the more 'high end' vehicles early in the game they'll have to work for it. For instance, airport security won't let you just wander in and steal a jet, they'll give you some serious opposition.
Quote:

Weapons are slightly different since we have to find a balance between giving the player freedom and giving them a challenge. Letting players have any weapon they want, whenever they want it, would make earlier missions less of a challenge and less satisfying. That being said, as the player makes progress through the game they will build up a satisfying arsenal.
Quote:

Refining open world multiplayer into something really special has been a huge focus of development and we are very excited to share more information with people soon.

Kane Knight 11-17-2012 02:08 PM

I really hope the freeform mission style works.

Also, I like the idea of having to work to get things like a jet.

It's bigger than the maps for GTA IV, RDR & San Andreas combined. I think that comparison came straight from R* in an interview or article somewhere.

So you can compare it to those 3 maps combined and still have space left over.

Well you have to give RDR a bye, since yinno it was based on western expansion. As for San Andreas, I agree but it also added to the realism of the state in that it wasn't just one vast city unlike GTAIV which at times I felt confined to. In San Andreas, each city had a distinct style and feel and was separated by small suburban and rural areas.

Never got why people found it detrimental to the game.

The wilderness in SA was full of ghosts, Undertaker men talking ghoulish tings and Bigfootz.

PC & Wii U versions are "under consideration".

Well fuck. The trailer probably is still running on PC, just like that MGS demo using the FOX engine Kojima showed off. Yet not actually on PC.

If it's a staggered release, I doubt I could wait unlike with something like AC3.

Emperor Smeat 11-19-2012 01:59 PM

If its anything like past GTA games, the PC and Wii U version would show up around 6 months later or around this time next year.

Tommy Gunn 11-21-2012 11:55 AM

I was just ripping a CD to my Xbox 360 HDD and it made me wonder whether we'll be able to have custom radio stations in GTA V? As far as I know you can do it on PC versions of the older games but I'm not sure if they ever had that option on a console before.

I'd like to see standard and automatic cars.... some missions are default and some you get the choice (i.e. two cars to get into at beginning of mission)..... Some cars in the game may be only automatic or standard, whereas some could be both.....

IIRC, you could do that with the original XBox & PC versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

So you can compare it to those 3 maps combined and still have space left over.

Yeah, it’s mentioned in the Grand Theft Auto V “world premiere” Game Informer article in this month’s (Dec. ’12) issue.

Wife asked for a Christmas list, put a preorder for this at the top :)

Got some pedals for my motor for mine, but I think this'll be on the Valentines list if she demands a present too.

Makes Christmas so simple when people tell you what they would like to have.

Agree totally. What's the point in having something you didn't want or you brought 2 weeks earlier because you did want it. As a child, it's great for presents, but past 18/20, I hate suprises!

El Fangel 11-24-2012 09:31 PM

I don't mind if its something they found out I wanted or knew I would like since they cared enough to look around.

Wife gave me a list as well, 90% I had planned to get anyways.

Rockstar would eventually like to create one Grand Theft Auto game with all previous cities from the series. In an interview with Digital Trends, Rockstar North head Leslie Benzies said he envisions players being able to travel back and forth to revisit places they explored in past games.

“Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas,” Benzies said. “In that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting.”

On the subject of Vice City returning as a future setting, Benzies said “it is always a possibility. There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit. However Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.”
