Since Austin won't be competing at Mania, it leaves Punk as the "odd man out" so to speak. After RAW though, I realized that if they're careful with how they book him, Ryback should win the Rumble and take the belt off of Punk at Mania. For an established guy like Cena or Rock to end this reign would be a missed opportunity to put over a new star. The slow build would be tremendous. I mean, it's only October, and those people were going nuts. I say you stretch this out until April and make it mean something. With that, I think Mania's top matches can look something like this:

WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Ryback
-Ryback wins Rumble, text book story, make a new star.

Streak: The Undertaker vs. John Cena
-It wouldn't be rocket science to set this match up, and it would deliver on every level.

The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman
-Lesnar/Punk have a loose alliance on the RTWM due to their business relationship with Paul Heyman. Lesnar costs Rock the Championship at the Rumble against Punk, and you have yourself a huge grudge match between two huge stars. Would be a great staple to the show.

Also: Rey vs. Sin Cara

For some odd reason, I really want to see Triple H vs Dolph or Triple H vs Wade Barrett at WrestleMania. It would be a tremendous match to cement one of them as a "main event guy" and the build/storyline would be easy to do. Dolph is an arrogant shithead who pisses off HHH or Wade Barrett makes fun of Triple H for being weak and a shell of a man (and then decides to elbow him in the face to let him know that Wade Barrett is now "The Cerebral Assassin")

I really hope they wait on Dolph cashing in. Imagine Dolph beating HHH in a brutal match at Mania and then cashing in to win the World Title later that night.

I don't believe anyone has cashed in at any of the "Big 4" PPV's yet. Having the first such cash-in at Mania would be the obvious route to go though, definitely.

The problem is, right now they've got Sheamus with the WHC, who, let's face it, has become pretty bland over the past 6 months with it. And I really just can't even get into the idea of Big Show facing him for the title. I want it to change hands eventually, I just don't think Show winning a main-event title a 5th (?) time would do anything for him or for SD! or the WHC.

Also, can't wait to see McIntyre whenever he finally has his 1st singles match on RAW or SD. Been way too long since I've heard

Yes because losing random tag matches when your partner bails on you makes Heels look weak.

Have you ever seen an effective Heel that won every match?

Punk isnt a monster Heel like Lesnar. He doenst need to win every match.

You should really watch Flair in the 80s if you think a Heel Champion needs to win every match to be booked solid.

When he loses so often, yes it does make him look week. It was worse when he was a face. Granted it hasn't happened as much since he turned heel but when your CHAMPION constantly loses, it does stand to reason that you should think "... why the fuck is he still champion?"

Flair did not get pinned that often at all in the 80's. I don't even know where that thought came from. lol. They also didn't have "HUGE" tag matches pitting the main eventers on a weekly basis because the lazy bookers didn't wanna think of a creative way to build heat. But that's neither here nor there.

That made him WEAK.

Shit, I remember watching WCW WorldWide and watch him defend his title week after week against the likes of HARD WORKING BOBBY WALKER and CRAIG PITTMAN and JIM POWERS and whomever else was in that shitty Teddy Long Stable at that time.

He made them all look like Sting.

lol. What the fuck are you talking about?

How many times did Bobby Walker, Craig Pittman and Jim Powers pin Ric Flair?

Yeah. It was the territorial days, so the thinking was quite a bit different. Flair made the territory's top guy look good because that guy had to stay in the territory to draw while Flair/NWA Champion moved onto the next territory in a few weeks. Even then, they usually just either went to a time limit draw or won via DQ or something.

On WCW television though...

Who cares what happened in the territories? It was a completely different thought process and no one outside of there knew the wiser. Ric Flair was not jobbing on WCW television to these guys.

Del Rio cashed in last year at SummerSlam. The DAMN iNATOR computer has been really struggling lately.

Quick thoughts:

Agree with Punk choosing to face Cena over Ryback. But then Heyman could tell Ryback that his client will still fight him at HIAC. Ryback in the ring, Heyman says you wanted to fight my client, here he is...out comes BROCK LESNAR. The two brawl all over the arena before eventually being separated. Could set up Ryback/Cena vs. Punk/Lesnar at Survivor Series.

That's what I was saying. The thought process behind the heel champion being booked like that worked back then but makes no sense now.

#1-norm-fan 10-02-2012 10:31 PM

Oh alright. I thought you were saying Flair lost regularly and used that to back it up.

I remember Flair losing to Brad Armstrong via DQ on an episode of Worldwide I believe. He also regularly beat Armstrong though. It does stand to reason that there would be a crazy upset here and there but if you're a champion you should be an expert at escaping those situations.

No one wants to see an MMA or boxing main event between two guys who lose on a regular basis. You have the ability to script your outcomes. You should be able to easily make characters that people want desperately to see get beat and characters that people want to see beat the assholes.

Lost regularly/was regularly made to look on par with guys perceived as below him.

I like how they gave Sandow his first singles loss by having a long match mostly in control of the World Champion, it made him look amazing. Such a strong showing for someone who hasn't been on the main roster for long.

Rammsteinmad 10-03-2012 11:06 AM

I'm glad he finally lost a match! I don't buy him as an "undefeated" guy.

Fignuts 10-03-2012 05:33 PM

So apparently Tensai wasn't sandbagging, and Ryback legit, just couldn't get him up.
