MLB 10: The Show
<font color=goldenrod>Decided to pick this up this afternoon. I'd only had 09 for a couple of months, but the game was basically free. May as well make the upgrade.
Gonna get into it this evening.</font> |
There was a screenshot somewhere of Jason Bay chasing after a ball that had been hit into the gap at Citi Field.
I thought it was pretty symbolic and hilarious. ROFL Mets. |
<font color=goldenrod>Big Fat Asshole</font>
|
Wait hold on let me find it
|
|
<font color=goldenrod>Hmm, wondering whether or not to use the live roster updates before I start my season. Problem with doing that is I really don't want to go online with my PS3 and risk having it fuck up like all those other systems.
For that reason, I'm really glad they added the ability to change any team's roster, force people to the DL, force signings, etc. so you can manually keep your rosters accurate without even having to go online. Nifty feature.</font> |
That problem is fixed though, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Wanna pick this up in a couple weeks or so. Possibly GameFly it. |
<font color=goldenrod>lol was reading a Yanks' fan review of the game. Said when he played the Yanks' home opener the crowd gave Matsui a huge cheer. Then he hit a HR and everybody booed.</font>
|
<font color=goldenrod>They also apparently have even more cool details in there, like the breast cancer awareness game where everybody uses pink bats. Awesome.</font>
|
Started RTTS in this. Catcher control is pretty cool unless you have a terrible pitcher. I'll probably start franchise mode later tonight.
|
Picked this up today, my first PS3 game. Looks beautiful, but haven't gotten to play it much yet. It sure would be nice to not "have a life" sometimes.
|
Holy crap, this game can say Schuler. It's in as "Shuler", but still.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I don't know what it is, but the actual in-game graphics don't seem as impressive early on. I mean, it says the recommended PS3 resolution is 720, but I can't help but feel like that would be a bit silly because I have a 1080 TV, and 09 The Show looked fine on the 1080 setting.
Gonna have to change it up and see.</font> |
Yeah, game looks hot. Can't decide whether I want this or Battlefield tho.

<font color=goldenrod>Yeahhhhhhhhh I definitely have to wait to start Franchise. Player potential ratings are completely fucked up, and it's going to be fixed in the next roster update.
LOADS of star players have low potential ratings that cause them to sharply decline every single year, even when they are really young. Wright and Reyes both have F ratings and so they lose like 6-10 points in overall rating points every year, which makes no sense. I'll just dick around in RTTS until then</font> |
Everything about this game moves so much better than the 2K series. Don't know why it took me so long to make the cross over. The navigation is much easier, the frame rate, and it doesn't stop, slow down, or glitch like 2K always does.
|
What are the improvements over 09? Does it still have custom music, yells and chants? Why should I get rid of MLB 09 over this?
|
Do your own damn research.
|
Has anybody gotten anything about an update for this today? I'm downloading it now, but it's taking forever. Is it worth the upgrade?
|
It's the first patch
* Minnesota day and night, backstop changed to limestone * Fixed bug causing trades not to be accepted in Spring Training * Fixed hard drive game data space and messages * Road to the Show presentation mode settings are now saved after rebooting the game * Fixed RTTS issue when on the game stats screen after skipping training and then playing a game * Fixed issue in franchise mode and controlling of 30 teams and releasing a lot of players * Fixed issue when selecting “Movie Maker” with 10 replays for a movie when 11 are present * Fixed ball deflection sounds off players * Fixed issue with pitcher batter status window * Fixed issue with injuries during online games * Fixed fielding issue with catcher overthrowing first base on a dropped third strike * Fixed fielding issue with the ball in the dirt right at the feet of the user catcher * Fixed an issue when playing a tiebreaker game * Online addition of game history option in user list options. Can be found in leaderboards, league lobby buddy list, and schedule screens |
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah I'm downloading it as well. Apparently there's also the first roster update. Really hope it fixed player potential cause I'm chomping at the bit to get Franchise going but I can't until that's fixed.</font>
|
<font color=goldenrod>It didn't.</font> :(
|
<font color=goldenrod>Word going around is that the Potential problem will be fixed in Monday's roster update. Nice.
I'll still have to tweak the Mets roster a bit (guys who didn't appear in a big league game in 2009 can't be in the next year's game, at least not until the 2010 season starts and they play...so I have to create Ryota Igarashi out of one of the minor leaguers).</font> |
I am struggling in my shortstop's RTTS.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I've heard a lot of people griping about the hitting this year. Haven't really done any hitting though as I rarely play exhibition games and I'm saving my franchise for the potential-fixing update on Monday. I'll play some spring training games to get acquainted to it.
In the meantime I'm doing a career as a closer as it's the quickest way to get through the mode. Began in AA, pitched a few games in set-up relief and then was closing by the end of April. Made the AA All Star team and wound up converting 44 out of 46 save chances on the year with a sub-1 ERA and WHIP. Picked up a save in the playoffs before my team was knocked out. Pretty fun. The AI manager can be pretty stubborn at times though, both times I blew the save I was pulled as soon as the tying run crossed the plate, didn't even give me a chance to get out of it with a tie. Gonna be the AAA set-up man to start 2011, unfortunately though I was drafted by the Red Sox so I'm gonna be stuck behind Papelbon unless I get traded.</font> |
Demand a trade to the Pirates.
|
<font color=goldenrod>New rosters are up, potentials are fixed. Gonna start up franchise once I get home.
Apparently there are still some glitches in Franchise (mainly involving ridiculous trades going on around the league) but whatever, I'll pretend all the GMs are on acid or something.</font> |
Finally drew a walk yesterday.
|
Ah gee. I'm only halfway through my 09 season. Is this worth the upgrade?
Have they fixed up collision detection? pretty much only thing I can think of |

<font color=goldenrod>Hitting is definitely a lot harder this year. But I was eager to get out of ST and start the season so I'll do what I did last year and start off low and tweak the settings as I get better.
Still, I was getting shut out by Josh Johnson on Opening Day and the manager left him into the 8th inning with over 100 pitches before finally pulling him when I got some guys on base. Was down 2-0 heading into the 9th at which point I rallied and scored 3 to win it with Jason Bay getting the game-winning hit in his Mets debut. I had like 12/13 hits but only one for extra bases. Gotta do some more tweaking.</font> |

Yeah I'll stick with 09.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Franchise supposedly freezes at some points, which is the main thing the patch is going to fix. However, it's not a lock that your game will freeze so I'm going to hope for the best. Trade logic is also a bit messed up but that honestly doesn't bother me much, I like seeing players move teams.
Anyway, the detail is incredible. Basically every single player on the Mets looks spot on, even their young guys like Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese, and Nick Evans. Wish I could face morph worth a crap so I could make some of their real-life minor leaguers.</font> |
<font color=goldenrod>As is the case with every Show game, Comeback AI is in full effect. There are some games you pretty much WILL lose no matter what. Prolonged winning streaks are hard to come by, and relievers who have hot stretches will eventually get blown up even when you hit your spots.
While I appreciate how it simulates real baseball, it's annoying to spend an hour playing a game only to lose it at the end in circumstances that are pretty much beyond your control.</font> |
Just wanted to play a short game earlier, so set up a three inning game against the Royals. With the Twins, I was down by 1, and tied it in the bottom of the third. Wound up going all the way to the 11th when Mauer hit a walkoff homerun. So much for a short game.
|
lol Mets
|
<font color=goldenrod>It's ridiculously easy to make a young team that will wind up being far and away the best in the league via fantasy draft mode.</font>
|
You mean like some sort of...fantasy team?
|
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, but I mean the CPU picks guys based on current ratings and not necessarily their potential rating. You can load up on A-potential guys.</font>
|
I want to see Road to the Show changes in person. Played a number of games on 09 this week, and the sheer amount of base hits down the 1st and 3rd base line is staggering. I've also shut off the game a few times when outfielders dive head first on a fly ball and end up giving up an inside-the-park homerun.
Still love the game, but AI in RttS doesn't seem to work as well as I would like. |
In my first AA season as White Sox closer I have 30 saves and a 1.80 ERA. I re-sign for 2 years at a AAA contract and get demoted back to AA before I even throw a pitch. I got the call back up and have been the Set-Up guy. I have a really low ERA, but I keep getting put in with 2nd and 3rd with no outs and my WHIP is through the roof.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Only other complaint I have is player stamina, drains way too quickly. Catchers normally need regular rest but guys like Wright still need a day off every week otherwise they risk injury. Kinda dumb.</font>
|
<font color=goldenrod>Had an awesome full season at AAA, again getting promoted to closer before the first month was finished. Made the All-Star team and such, the Red Sox added me to their 40-man roster at the end of August so I figured I'd get called up when the AAA season was over, then they removed me from the roster the next day.
They re-signed me to a 1-year MLB bullpen contract for 2012 though, was on their 40-man roster and got invited to spring training. Wound up making the Opening Day bullpen.</font> |
Yeah...08 was easier to make it to the bigs. I was a starter and a HOF'er in 08 3.99 era and 231 wins...now I'm in 2019 with two short major league call ups... all in relief. And I'm pissed like the guy who gets the call from the pen in 2nd or 3rd inning. It kills your energy.
But I still love it |
lol you suck
|
Finally hit a homerun in RTTS. Second AB of the 2012 season, brought in the pinch hit in the bottom of the 9th, down by 1. Too bad nobody was on base.
We wound up losing in 12. |
Became the Phillies' full-time closer in 2014. Had 46 saves, a 2.06 ERA and didn't win reliever of the year.

Picked this up today. Loving it so far. Went the opposite route of you guys though and decided to becoming a SP. Drafted by the Orioles, my line so far. 12.1 IP 3 ER 1.87 ERA 1.09 WHIP. Last game I threw 50 pitches, 41 of them being strikes
|
<font color=goldenrod>Haven't played RTTS in a couple weeks but I was doing well in middle relief to start my big league career. Passed my first set of advancement goals......they then bumped me into the closers role despite Papelbon doing well and making much more money than me.
Not exactly realistic, but whatever.</font> |

Same happened to me, Vito. I was named closer in September 2013 while the old closer already had 40 saves and a respectable ERA.
|
I also hate how some guys retired in 2011 due to age. A-Rod and Utley both retired after winning MVPs.
|
I find this game extremely frustrating. This is the first baseball game I've played in probably close to 10 years. I feel that at times, no matter what, the AI comes up with big plays and easily scores runs. Still gotta get the hitting down too.
Only good moment I've had so far was having Chipper Jones hit a walk off home run for a final of 2-1 over the Marlins after a tough, defensive game. Other than that I end up usually wanting to throw the controller through the fucking television. |
I bought the game this weekend, will start a RTTS tomorrow..... possibly as a 2nd baseman..... not sure..... either way I've played some exhibition games and I can't hit for shit other than home runs and bloop singles...... I guess it will take some getting used to....
|
Got called up to AAA for the last half of the 2012, hit .445 with many homers, all-around great stats, and hitting all of my goals.
After the playoffs they sent me back down to AA saying my performance has not been up to par. *Angry eyes.* |
Had a fucking ERA under 2 with 40 saves for the Phils and then get sent down to AA for the rest of the year. Get designated for assignment the last week of the season and don't get to make it to spring training. So fucking frustrating.
|
Got called up to the majors for a short time. In my first MLB at bat hit an RBI double off of Phillies pitcher Andy Pettite. I'm sure I impressed Phillies first baseman David Ortiz.
(Both of them retired after that season.) |
If anyone wants to play online, hit me up. I'm Cooler_Schuler.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Played this for the first time in a while. Started a new RTTS as a CF (with the ability to play the other OF positions). Decided to cheat slightly and pick a team with "Thin" depth at CF so I don't get stuck behind somebody like Andrew McCutchen or Adam Jones.
After a random selection amongst all the teams with thin CF depth I wound up on the Reds. Gone 3-for-9 with 1 RBI and 1 BB so far in just 4 games played. My first game was hella embarrassing though. Got called on to pinch run, coach said to steal, took a slight lead and got picked off without even returning to first :o was in the game for approximately 5 seconds.</font> |
<font color=goldenrod>Fuck, about a month into the season the Reds traded me to the gayass Yankees. Hope I don't make the bigs with them or else I'll have to lose my glorious facial hair.</font> :(
|
My CF got drafted by the Yankees, traded to the Nationals. Let the contract expire, signed with the Twins, got traded to the Braves, then traded back to the Yankees. Now I'm putting up huge numbers, but the Yanks don't have room on the 40-man to promote me.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I started off red hot, but early season numbers are deceiving as in the span of about 2 weeks I went from like .333 to barely .250
I can't draw any walks because the CPU rarely throws balls. Makes it annoying when one of my advancement goals is to draw a single walk in a 3 week span.</font> |
<font color=goldenrod>Wound up getting traded yet again, this time to the Rockies. Spent the rest of the year on their AA team. Ended up getting shit hot and went from a bench player to starting 2 out of every 3 games.
End of the 2010 Season (all in AA): Games: 96 AB: 251 AVG: .347 H: 87 R: 29 2B: 15 3B: 2 HR: 1 (finally came during my first AB of the last game of the season) RBI: 36 SB: 6 CS: 11 (fucking coach wants me to steal far too often and I suck at it) BB: 5 (CPU never throws balls + I'm impatient) K: 29 SLG: .434 OBP: .376 OPS: .811 A: 7 PO: 112 E: 0 Season started out really well, then I slumped majorly, and then bounced back in a huge way. Hopefully will be an everyday player to start 2011, and get my way up to AAA.</font> |
Just out of curiosity, does the game have the Drillers new stadium?
|
so my Franchise freezes when Vernon Wells hits his 200th HR of his career..... don't know how many he had going into the game, but I've only played 12 games (he prolly has 4-5 so far... can't remember) I have no way to access any updates via Internet, so am I screwed?

I can never get a new baseball game. I'm a Pirates fan, and by the time I get the game home it's out of date because half the players have been traded.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Okay, what the fuck. I feel like I quit out of games against the CPU more than I finish them now. The rubber-band AI is insane and kicks in every single time I go up by more than 3. The next inning I'm guaranteed to give up runs and have my pitches lose all effectiveness, anything in the strike zone will be hit. I get that things like this happen in baseball, but it shouldn't happen EVERY TIME I happen to get a big lead.</font>

Fucking hitting .397 for the Blue Jays and got moved to the 9 hole because I wasn't getting on base enough (aka not getting enough walks).
|
<font color=goldenrod>I pretty much only actually PLAY in RTTS now. I'm just simming through my season, partly because I want to get it over with and partly because I'm pissed off at how my games seem to shake out half the time.
Stopped at the AS break. Like the realism that every team needs a representative, and the subsequent realism that because of that, there are a shitload of snubs. The top 6 or 7 SP, top RP, and top 4 or 5 CP all get on no matter what team they're from. So you get some shitty position players making the cut to ensure every team has a rep. Poor Wright, Reyes, and Francoeur got snubbed from the NL team because of that rule :( It's okay though cause Santana, Pelfrey, and K-Rod made it :shifty: My team's pitching has been ridiculous and put me way out in front, I'll probably sim to the playoffs and play from there.</font> |
