Push for Goldust?

It appears Goldust may be in line for a renewed push on SmackDown after a stellar outing with Chris Jericho on a recent episode of WWE Superstars as he defeated Money in the Bank participant Dolph Ziggler at last night's SmackDown live event in Stockton, California. He also gained a victory over Mike Knox on last week's episode of WWE Superstars.

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion praised his match with Goldust on his Twitter account, writing, "I really dug the match with Goldust. He's in the best shape of his life and is as good as anybody in the WWE. Very underrated.."

Swiss Ultimate 03-14-2010 08:29 PM

This doesn't upset me at all. I have always enjoyed Goldust in the ring. Except in TNA.

Stealth-Icon 03-14-2010 08:33 PM

I would not mind this at all. I would like to see him in some matches with Drew MacIntyre for the Int. strap

Tazz Dan 03-14-2010 08:36 PM

Wow, haven't seen Goldust in ages. He does look like he's in pretty good shape.

Swiss Ultimate 03-14-2010 08:36 PM

They could actually build that up too since Goldust in the past had great matches with Austin, Kane and Mankind. It might help get Drew over.

dronepool 03-14-2010 08:46 PM

Good, I hope so. He's cool.

Droford 03-14-2010 08:49 PM

Hes gonna get a push right back to TNA

Rock Bottom 03-14-2010 09:17 PM

What was so good about that match?

thedamndest 03-14-2010 09:24 PM

Jericho is right. Goldust is great in the ring and he hasn't looked this good since he debuted.

Rock Bottom 03-14-2010 09:32 PM

you guys are dumb

Nark Order 03-14-2010 09:56 PM

Was a very decent match for Superstars, but alot of it had to do with Jericho. Goldust is looking in phenomenal shape though.

El Tigre 03-14-2010 10:01 PM

No mistaking that these couple of months have been the best for Goldust's in ring work (the curtain call he pulled on Mike Knox on Superstars was pretty impressive). But I don't see him attaining a status higher then IC Champion. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him team back up with Yoshi and going from there, but I think there on different shows now.

Aren't you the one only watching for the exciting, fast-paced action of Bret vs Vince?

Jordan 03-14-2010 10:04 PM

Goldust is the man, he deserves a good run, a good long run.

Swiss Ultimate 03-14-2010 10:07 PM

I could really go for a good Goldust promo.

To be fair, Goldust wasn't in TNA, Dustin Runnels was in TNA with a piece of shit gimmick.

Swiss Ultimate 03-14-2010 10:32 PM

Truth.

It was decently paced and made Goldust look credible. Not to mention, his work over the past few months on ECW was very solid.

I don't think anyone here is claiming he's fantastic, but he seems to be in great health and is having a second wind of sorts. I wouldn't mind a Goldust/McIntyre fued, and you would think a fued with Cody would be immenent.

Great, now I'm imagining a Goldust Vs. Cody w/ Dusty as special guest referee... Actually, that's not a bad idea

It's almost logical. Cody's going to have to branch out as a single wrestler eventually, and a move ot SmackDown would make more than enough sense. The fued is just waiting to happen.

Hopefully they do push him and we will never forget the name of..... GOLDUST

Damn, I can't recall the last time, if ever, Goldust was ever in that good a shape.

Afterlife 03-14-2010 11:26 PM

I actually threw my fist in the air and cheered when he got the Director's Cut (which Grisham called the "Final Cut", so maybe they've rehashed that name again) on Knox. Total fucking shameless mark out moment.

Mr. Nerfect 03-14-2010 11:26 PM

Goldust is one of the best characters in the history of pro-wrestling. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. His ring work since some of his returns has been, well, pretty shitty. Goldust looked like he just didn't give a shit. ECW was sort of a comeback for "The Gilded Stranger" as he looked so motivated in the ring there. It's just recently that he's gone back to the robes, which were an essentially part of Goldust's character to me.

While I thought Goldust's time had come and passed, if they work some golden magic with "The Lone Star," I can't see any reason why he cannot do some great things. If Cody Rhodes moves to SmackDown!, a feud between the two would be so, so interesting.

And for the record, Goldust's finishing move these days is "The Final Cut." It's his suplex lift into a swinging neckbreaker. Almost like a one-man Au Revoir from the La Resistance days. The Curtain Call remains the classic. For a while, Goldust used a Neckbreaker they called the Curtain Call, but it got renamed to "The Director's Cut." It's easy to understand how Goldust's finishers are sometimes met with confusion.

So while I would be more than happy with a Goldust push, I would just like to point out that beating Mike Knox doesn't really mean anything. Nor does winning on house shows. Let's just see what happens after WrestleMania with The Golden Child.

Afterlife 03-14-2010 11:50 PM

Beating Knox may not be huge, but it comes off an excellent showing with Chris Effingham Jericho, and it was his first win-via-finisher in ages. That is why I am pumped.

Mr. Nerfect 03-15-2010 01:08 AM

Oh no, it is all well and good to be happy to see Goldust get the clean win. I just don't think that Goldust going over Mike Knox is evidence of a push. Knox puts over Slam Master J when he wrestles him.

6-String King 03-15-2010 02:00 AM

Hell give him the IC Title again. I've always liked Goldust. Bring back the Curtain Call.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-15-2010 07:47 AM

Do they let him use Shattered Dreams anymore?

I'm sure they would, but I don't recall him having the momentum for that particular spot in the last couple years of WWE.

Mr. Nerfect 03-15-2010 10:37 AM

They teased the Shattered Dreams on William Regal at least once during his ECW run, if I recall. He didn't connect, but Goldust was going for it but I think he got his eyes raked. Regal was taking the movie, I think.

wwe2222 03-15-2010 11:19 AM

Always loved the Goldust character. He plays it so perfectly too. I wouldnt mind seeing an IC Title run or a Big Bossman vs Big Show type main event run for him. (minus any coffins of course)

I wouldn't mind a push for Goldy, but I'd hope they drop the speech impediment angle that they're running with him. Keep him comedy based in his promos, but I feel like that whole gimmick doesn't necessarily make for a whole lot of credibility.

He hasn't done much of that stammering shtick since the epic 8-man tag match. He's been very "normal" in speech since he teamed up with Yoshi.

Swiss Ultimate 03-16-2010 01:14 PM

I'm happy for Goldust.

Mike Honcho 03-16-2010 01:42 PM

I wish they would give him a real push, drop the goldust gimmick, adopt the name Dustin Rhodes and have him team up with Cody as "The American Dream Team", with Dustin the leader and take cody under his wing, have them fued with the Hart Dynasty. Let's face it, Ted Dibiase will be in singles soon enough and I don't think Cody can last on his own. Also, It would help support the tag team division for sure.

I've always been a fan of Goldust, but It's time for something new. I'm sure he's tired of that gimmick anyways.

I don't get it... what exactly wasn't good about that match?

Mr. Nerfect 03-16-2010 02:07 PM

The match wasn't amazing or anything, but it included some pretty nice spots. One thing you could tell was that Chris Jericho was having a ball in there. He and Goldust really clicked. They even incorporated some of the old "mind games" shtick that has pretty much been lost in Goldust -- I mean, it's mentioned, but he doesn't really freak guys out anymore so much as he is a freak.

For a while, to me, it felt like the feud between Cody Rhodes and Goldust lost appeal. I think they interacted once when Goldust told Rhodes to pick his allies carefully and Cody sort of brushed him off; but then Cody got a pretty big push and Goldust was sort of there solely for enhancement purposes and it just felt like they were on different levels. Now, if Rhodes was drafted to SmackDown!, I'd be genuinely interested in seeing him and G-View feud again.

I also don't get this "Rhodes won't succeed on his own" mentality. I mean, I appreciate that people see him as the third man of Legacy and that; but I truthfully consider him a better overall talent than Ted DiBiase, and the guy is only 24 years old. Size doesn't matter as much as it used to, Cody has a daddy in the business, he works as heel quite well currently, and he's sympathetic enough to play a good face, in my opinion.

My heart actually wants to see him win the Triple Threat at WrestleMania. Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase may be "bigger" right now, but I think they could feud past Mania, and Rhodes, as the third party, could use the win more than either of them. Let Orton and DiBiase cancel each other out and Rhodes snatch the big victory. From there, draft Cody to SmackDown!.

My initial thoughts on the Rhodes/Goldust feud (this was before Cody joined Legacy, I believe), was that Rhodes would be better off playing the face. I feel that his youth and such makes him the more critical asset to the WWE, and Goldust could get his baby brother over by providing an obstacle. Although Goldust is beloved these days, his character just loans itself to being the "black sheep" of the Rhodes family, and I always wanted to see Goldust envious of the attention daddy gave Cody. The switch may not work now, but I truthfully think that would be the best way to do the angle: Goldust is the weirdo who wants nothing to do with the Rhodes legacy for whatever reason, and Cody is the golden child who is proud and adjusted.

No. Everyone knows he's cody's brother, dropping the character would be a fucking momentum killer. Besides, Cody is currently in a storyline that involves him breaking AWAY from being underwing, so giving him a new mentor would be completely backwards. Teaming them up, as brothers and equals, isn't necessarily a horrible idea, but your assumptions of Cody's longevity and Goldust's depth are foolish.

Juan 10-05-2010 07:12 PM

I called it

RAW SPOILER: Highlight below....

So what do you think will happen now that Goldust wants to have sex with the Million Dollar Belt?

We have a spoiler tag, Naitch.

Afterlife 10-06-2010 01:53 PM

Don't forget, there's also a Goldust DVD in the works.

Personally, I think his fanbase and his past year or two of ringwork have helped in the decision to push him.

He's old school.

I don't know if this push is because of his talent, ring work, and the fact that he's better than 85% of the guys on the Raw roster or because WWE wants the book and DVD they publish to sell copies and be profitable.

In all honesty, as much as I love Daniel Bryan, I wish they kept the U.S. title on Miz and had all the Golddust "You will be mine vignettes" be about Golddust's obsession with winning another title... that title being the U.S. which would be believable to most fans because while Golddust is good, he isn't main event. Miz has a great personality and charisma. Seeing him and even Reilly react to some of the stuff Goldie does would be awesome. Golddust could win just in time for his book and DVD to come out and be pushed... then he could drop it to Miz who could drop it Bryan. After what they did with Bryan on Monday it's not like WWE had big plans to give Daniel a legit push as champ anyways.

Plus Teddy on the mic is boring as hell and I feel like this feud is going to involve a lot of promos and skits although it would be pretty cool if Ted Sr. came out and started down talking Golddust and he and Jr. started beating him down only to have Dusty make the save for his boy.... in polka dots.... :shifty:

Rock Bottom 03-13-2011 06:05 AM

So I was wondering what's up with this Goldust push because I have been really anxious to see it. Everyone knew it was coming and it's awesome so I guess the only thing left is to figure out where he fits in at Mania.

He will probably come out and stun austin and throw cole over lawler and count. that would really do it, hell yeah

Do not know to think you are an asshole or pity you for remembering this a year later and needing the attention by bringing it back.

Mr. C 03-13-2011 11:45 PM

I came up with a storyline for Goldust, so here’s your setup:

Goldust is wrestling every week and loses every time. Goldust begins getting visibly frustrated after the losses.

One night, we see Goldust backstage getting ready for a match, but seeming down and reluctant. Zack Ryder enters the scene and tells Goldust he’s washed up and should quit before it’s too late.

Eventually, you have Ryder ripping on Goldust in the ring, and then Goldust comes out and cuts a promo on him, but then ends up losing the match. The anonymous General Manager of RAW says Goldust needs to sort himself out or he’ll be fired and tells him he’s got a rematch with Ryder, and if he wins, he stays, if he loses, he’s gone.

Ryder looks to have the match won, but somehow, Goldust pulls off the win. After the match, Goldust takes a mic and then declares his intentions of winning the WWE Championship.

The GM says Goldust has to earn it in a Triple Threat Match: Goldust vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton for #1 contendership, and Goldust wins it.

The next week, Goldust comes out and cuts a promo about the situation. He says he’ll either win, or he’ll retire.

We get Goldust vs. The Miz at SummerSlam for the belt, with Goldust the veteran that uses his experience. I’d have it go for a while, with Goldust’s paint wearing off quite a lot, and he has to unzip the top of his suit for air. Miz goes for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Goldust counters into a pin and wins the match.

Fignuts 03-14-2011 04:46 AM

Sounds like something made on Extreme Warfare Revenge.

i.e. awful

And why in fuck's sake would you need to mention Goldust unzipping his suit? Keep your dirty fan fics to yourself, thank you very much.

loopydate 03-14-2011 01:15 PM

Why would he get put in a #1 contender match after going on a lengthy losing streak? Because he cut a promo?
