Best kayfabe injuries in wrestling
Gotta go with busted ribs with the tape. Nothing more classic than that.
Oh, and of course anything that gets them into a wheelchair. Instant heat. My personal favorite, though, is Pillmanizing. So what are some of your favorite kayfabe injuries? Whether in general or specific angles. |
i always loved when shamrock had blood in his mouth from internal injuries.
lol made me legit cringe.
mother fuck
I know right? Sid can sell a leg injury better than anyone else. Looks so real

lol Daffney's all "oh shit".
And I was like all..."DAMN"
Steiner was all "HUH!?"
I dont think this fits the catigory but I was fond of how Flair always somehow started bleeding while getting fired up doing interviews
Speaking of Flair......Wheelchair bound wrestlers. It always ends the same. they get wheeled into a wall or get flipped. Still works whatever the formula.
of course you have the seldom used but still great 'halo, he'll never walk again injury' angle

ECW Pitbulls made a career out of that thing
The having on the cast is always great because 99 percent of the time the wrestler uses the cast as a weapon.
Yeah, taped ribs is badass points. Everything else is sort of gay. Though the arm cast is key.
Undertaker's "being dead."

How about Sandman being blinded with his cigarette? I am not a huge fan of ECW but they had some good kayfabe stuff there.
Owen Hart = Best cast of my generation

he milked that cast for what felt like ...2-3 years?
D'Lo Brown's pec injury that made him wear that deadly chest protector was pretty sweet.
Seriously?! No one has mentioned "The Narcissist" Lex Luger's Titanium Plate that was lodged inside his forearm and used it during matches as a finisher and was legal because it was part of his body?
Now that is COOL! |
Kane's burnt face was kayfabe. Another good one.
Any injury where it requires the wrestler to wear bandages OVER his fucking wrestling gear. Im pretty sure goldust at one point had bandages over his boot...

Severely Injured JBL |
When Owen Hart "knocked out" Shawn Michaels on Raw, that was awesome.
Remember when Ken Shamrock would always be "bleeding internally" in every match he had?
Or last time when Randy Orton was a face he got a concussion in every match. The only redeeming qualities he had at the time was being able to sell being brain-addled really well. |
Shamrock's insides must have been jelly by the end of his WWE tenure.
May favorite was Pillman's shoulder injury when he went into War Games.
Looking back it's ridiculous how much I bought DDP's taped ribs. I didn't even know what it meant to have taped ribs, but when I saw him come out with the tape on I was instantly like, "OH SHIT! SHOULD HE EVEN BE THERE?" Total mark.
Then again, I also kept hoping I would see the Undertaker out in public when they aired those vignettes of regular people seeing him while they were doing their errands after he lost to Yokozuna at the 1994 Royal Rumble. |
Taker getting his faced"crushed" and having to wear that Phantom of the Operaesqe mask.
Anyone wearing a face guard cause it looks so funny |
Remeber d-lo's metal chest protector of doom? Which was actually 100% foam. :wtf:

Cowboy Bob Orton?
Rikishi doing a "ric-flair" on Austin?
the best kayfabe injury imo was the randy savage ricky steamboat ring bell to the throat "crushed larynx" angle...not only was it sold in a time before massive amounts of hype on a monday night show, but it also set up probably one of the best matches in wrestling at WM3.

welcome to the party.

As far as my contribution to the topic, I'll go with Kane's burnt face. Also McMahon being in a wheelchair during the attitude era was a good one. I'm gonna miss "Mr. McMahon." :( |
Taped Ribs for sure. I remember they kept saying DDP's ribs could never heal, since he wouldn't take time off.
Owen's cast was classic. Jack the snake Roberts being blinded by Rick Martel also came to mind. |
One that comes to my mind is Shawn Michaels eye injury when Chris Jericho put Shawn through the Jeritron 3000. HBK really sold that one well.
*6000 (upgrade to HD from the obscenely expensive Jeritron 5000)
How has no one mentioned when an ankle lock "snaps" an ankle. I don't remember who did it (Shamrock or Angle) but someone had their opponents shoes JUST loose enough to pull it off very slightly and then wrench the holy hell out of it making it look like they snapped the guys ankle completely.
Want to say it was Angle breaking Kendrick's leg but I think I'm wrong.
They definitely did one with Angle, though. |
I believe it was Scotty 2 Hotty. Fairly sure it's mentioned in Angle's book.
lol at the Angle one.
D-Lo's chest protector was awesome, as well as Jake Roberts' losing sight after Rick Martel sprayed Arrogance into his face.....
Shawn Michaels collapsing is, without a doubt, the greatest kayfabe injury ever.

I'm gonna have to "second" your love for Pillmanizing the ankle. I remember Taker did a chair move once that looked just vicious, where he jammed the chair into a guy's throat.
As far as post match bandaging, how has nobody mentioned the neckbrace? That big, soft, foamy neckbrace that just screams kayfabe. Even when I see someone on the street with one like that, I'm waiting for the angle. Bobby Heenan sporting it had to be it's heyday, but Andy Kaufman had a sweet one too: http://img.youtube.com/vi/11T_-k7ckrg/0.jpg |
Jake Robert's dad... whatever his name was. He brought the kayfabe home with him. He would wear the neck brace around the house.
On a less out of date note, and similar note, The Sandman faking he's blind. Even had his wife support it while they were building up to the climax of the storyline when The Sandman came back. |
