Is it time for JR to go?

I feel like he's getting screwed in a major way and is attempting to take the high road. It seems like he's been McMahon's whipping boy for awhile. According to Russo, "Oklahoma" was a favorite of Vince when they did at backstage in the WWF, "What's up J.R.'s ass" when he had colon issues, moving him from Smackdown for the sole purpose of embarrassing him in my opinion, keeping him of Wrestlemania, and now off air permanently it seems.

I could understand it if the younger announcers were so much better or even showed a hint of greatness, but they aren't as Striker is still a bit rough around the edges and Cole blows donkey dick. Taking J.R. off is the equivalent of dumping John Madden for Mike Adamle, sure he's off at times but his voice is synonymous with wrestling and he deserves better treatment on his terms.

Should J.R. go to TNA?

kareru 04-08-2010 04:41 PM

to be honest o don't care where J.R goes as long as he is on my t.v giving it the 'BAH GAWD'S'

This thread is pointless, and stupid.

Jim Ross has been loyal to WWE.
and He'd never move to TNA...

Hasn't Ross already confirmed he'd retire in WWE?

FearedSanctity 04-08-2010 05:10 PM

Loyalty is near nonexistent is wrestling.

Jeritron 04-08-2010 05:10 PM

It's time for you to go

James Steele 04-08-2010 05:12 PM

JR hasn't been on TV lately because he physically can't do it right now, if ever again.

Instead, it became the MrSpikeLee insults everyone on the forum like a little bitch thread. So there, I just added to the discussion.

KayfabeMan 04-08-2010 07:46 PM

BTW, there is a chance JR could turn up at TNA.

YES - it could happen. Doesn't matter what JR says about it, TNA says about it, or WWE says about it. What is said publicly and behind the scenes are two different things, and like FS said, there is no such thing as loyalty - and there shouldn't be; where is Vince's loyalty to anyone, so why would they give something they do not get.

blak23 04-08-2010 08:43 PM

jr has had a great career and i think its time to pass the torch let the kids of the new pg era grow with a new voice of the wwe

If JR wasn't so well liked, he would have gone away a long time ago.

Ross was great as the fall guy in a lot of Vince and company's heel shticks. The guy played a humble character who rooted for the good guys and tried to act dignified. And for that, he got the shit kicked out of him, mocked, berated, and abused. It worked. It made him both a more symnpathetic character and the guys who beat the shit out of him seem more evil. and it made guys like Austin seem even better when they stuck up for the dude.

I doubt this shit was disrespect. Other elements, such as removing him from TV, might be, but the various ways Vince humiliated the onscreen character of JR? Nah.

I think the old commentary team needs to go away. on top of no longer being fresh, the new guys aren't going to get better if we keep running with the old guys. I mean, ignore the way JR and King have shit all over the younger commentary in the past, these guys are never going to be in the spotlight if they keep it trained on King and JR. Given a chance, JR would likely hand on forever. They tried to get him off Raw before and he (and others) threw fits, so it's obviously not going to happen on his terms.

Vince and the other top guys may still be jackasses, but really, that doesn't make them wrong all the time. Or automatically disrespectful.

Mr. Nerfect 04-09-2010 02:34 AM

I completely agree with Kane Knight, actually. Much like it's time for older Superstars to pass the torch to the younger generation, it's time for Jim Ross to step aside and let newer announcers take the headset and narrate the action for us. Todd Grisham, Matt Striker and Josh Mathews are damn good at it too. Granted, they could get better, but these men are fairly safe bets for the future.

And in all honesty, I personally believe it is time for Jerry Lawler to step down, too. The man has not brought anything fresh to the commentary booth for a long time. The WWE have had quite a few color analysts that have done the job a lot better than him in the last decade. Paul Heyman, Tazz, Bill DeMott, John "Bradshaw" Layfield, Mick Foley and Matt Striker all come to mind. King has become one of the worst since he returned to the WWE in 2001. That's almost a decade he's been stinking it up, as many great voices have not had a chance to become synonymous with the great moments in professional wrestling.

It's hard to talk loyalty when you're on the success list. Loyalty is best measured in adversity, something only one of these guys has really dealt with in the last decade, and even then, we'll see how that turns out.

Jakob Synn 04-09-2010 05:56 PM

After his contract is done I see him just doing blogs about wrestling and that's about it.

It sounds like he has no desire to go to TNA, but I'm sure in 6 months time or so his mind might change, so who knows.

XL 04-09-2010 07:32 PM

For the second time today I find myself agreeing with Kane Knight.

When everyone said JR should be calling Mania my initial reaction was "why should the guys that have been busting their asses all year get bumped to backstage interviewer duties to accomodate JR?".

Agree entirely with Noid about King. The sooner they shift him from behind the booth the better. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a heel mouthpiece though.

The sad thing is I don't think the King will ever be heel again like he was in the 90's. I always felt that heel King and JR were the perfect pair.

I think every broadcasting team for the WWE should have at least one heel announcer. It adds so much to the match if you have someone who's calling the match cheering for the heel.

XIII 04-09-2010 09:14 PM

maybe it is time for him to go personaly but i can't imagine never hearing him call another match, it'll be an end of an era, like never hearing gorilla call another match..

and the fact that it actually meant so much to him means a hell of a lot to me.
