Super Street Fighter IV Tournament (Round 5)
 

It's almost time to prepare yourself for the time. You read that right. The tournament won't be starting for a little while but we better prep ourselves. Right now we're looking at about a July 4th start date. Over two months from launch. That should be plenty of time to figure out your characters, figure out the playing style of others, or even if you're waiting to buy it used, it should be plenty of time.

A few things I want to mention:

- Initial seeding will be based off of last year's results. As we scrimmage and get more people, I'll adjust them accordingly.

- We kind of already know who will be in the final 4 but it doesn't mean you not-so-skilled players can't have a fun time with this. It can get competitive/fun if you give it a chance. Battling for the higher seeds is important. It depends on how many players we'll have total, but the top seeds will probably get a few byes in the early rounds.



And once it drops I'll get more into details. But this is just getting the ball rolling. I'll send out mass PMs to see who is interested and what not.

Been playing the last couple of days to try to get into fighting shape. Having some surprising success with Gouken, he may just become my number one.

Been thinking about making this best of 11 with a 4 character max limit since there are a bunch more characters now. So you you can only pick the same character 3 times.

But best of 9 is probly good enough. I dunno.

So, we can only use the same character three times per round? And each round is a best of 9 matches? Why 9? Seems like an odd number.

Last year was best of 7, same character twice. So you would have to master at least 4 character, but only have 2 matches with them.

This game has more characters so I wanted more chances to use them and create different matchups. Best of 7 does sound better, but I want an even number of rounds for the character limit.

Nah, bunch of other shit I need to buy, and this is the first time I've been home past 10 am, so it's looking like I won't be on at all again. Would likely end up forfeiting my matches like last year.

for some fucking reason, if i spend too much time playing this game, i stop properly doing the correct motions to pull moves off.

Yes but if it's a ranked match or team battle, I'm going to pick my best character to win. Endless Battle, I'll practice with other characters because it's not as "competitive".
I was going to pick Rose in the Endless Battle but then everyone left. Played her arcade last night and thought I did pretty well with her.

Have you ever beaten my Zangief with out spamming Akumas jumping Hadoukens?

PROTIP: if you stayed on the ground and FADC across the screen/didn't press up when going for piledriver or powerbomb/ green larieted more, you would have never run into them. :y:

Zangief is so fucking cheap in this game.

dude can lariat through an ultra

I didn't, you got the win. When the Team Battle finished, I left.

Everyone seems to think Zangief is cheap. I'm not sure I understand how he can be called cheap. He has to be right next to you to do anything to you and both his Ultras can be tricky to connect unless you're fighting someone who is really predictable or bad.
His moves can be beaten by most other moves to.

Only projectile ultras and 2 or 3 non-projectile ones. Everyone has a move that stops ultras, though.

dude is super overpowered. Deals massive damage and takes very little in return.

I know he deals a ton of damage but that's a decent trade off given how difficult it can be to connect with the more powerful moves.

It would be pretty bad if he had to get right next to his opponent to do anything and, when he did, he didn't do much damage.

Sometimes, most of a fight is just catching the opponent. When I do, I just wreck them.

He's slow, he's a big target, he's vulnerable during most, if not all, of his moves and he has to be right next to you to do anything. His strength is his only real perk.

i'd agree, except for that fucking lariat of his.

To get around the lariet, go low and stay low.

you dont get what im saying...he's not mobile, but that lariat allows him to basically get a free walk towards a guy to the point where you can just go grab happy. I mean sure, i could just sit and spam some tigers and uppercut when they jump...
...you know what, i dont even care. I guess i just play this game like a sports game, trying to make shit 'fair' and competitive.

This is probably why i dont spam, and why spamming annoys me, or when Roxer decides to pick Blanka/Bison/Guile and just sit on his ass like a turtle charging attacks.

There are a lot of moves that beat the lariet. It's not a free walk if you know what to do with it. Abels wheelkick, Cammys Spiral Arrow/Cannon Spike, the Shorykuen, the Tiger Knee/Uppercut, All of Adons moves, Balrogs charging low punches and his jumping headbutt all stop the lariet. They all knock him back across the screen too.

I try not to spam. I could pull of endless German Suplexes to win but I limit it to 2 in a row, then I do something else. That's pretty much my rule for any move, really.
I don't mind get beaten or even double perfect'd as long as it wasn't through spam.
