Heroes Reborn

Quote:

Heroes is currently rumored to be getting a 13-episode fifth season to give it a chance to go out with a bang.
Yes, please.

Jon Kano 04-26-2010 04:29 PM

Not exactly new news, but source?

D Mac 04-26-2010 04:39 PM

Still watching. In the middle of season 3.

Hollywood Reporter. The exact page is... um... missing for some reason?

alvarado52 04-26-2010 05:05 PM

I'd like to see them wrap it up, truthfully. Aside from Season 1 and the Villians run, its been so-so.

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2010 05:10 PM

I have thoroughly enjoyed the series (the Villains arc was iffy, though). I think a lot of people were expecting way too much, imo.

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-26-2010 06:24 PM

I've enjoyed the current run with the carnival villain dude. That and the first season were the best. Others rather blah.

D Mac 04-26-2010 07:02 PM

Noah Bennet FTW

Corporate CockSnogger 04-26-2010 07:22 PM

If it's just to tie up any loose ends and send it off with a bang then I'm all for it.

Jura 04-26-2010 07:44 PM

Only 13 episodes? Regular season is longer than that. Another network could probably pick it up after it ends because I'm sure more people will watch for the final season than previous seasons and they could go with the momentum.

Shaggy 04-28-2010 07:38 PM

I loved Heroes in the beginning but I pretty much suffered through this last season in hopes that it would get better.

Boondock Saint 04-29-2010 02:44 AM

Yeah just deleted the last 5 episodes of last season. Just don't care anymore.

parkmania 05-14-2010 02:27 PM

The Hollywood trades are reporting that fan favorites V and Chuck will be renewed for next season. NBC is giving Chuck a third season, while ABC is set to keep its new version of the 1980s science fiction saga V on tap for a second go-round. Both the Chuck and V orders are expected to be for just 13 episodes, which is typically all the commitment that a network will give to a “bubble” show these days.

The same trade sources are predicting a dire fate for both NBC’s once popular Heroes and for ABC’s freshman science fiction series Flash Forward, which was created by David Goyer (Batman, The Dark Knight). It is likely that the Heroes team will be given at least one TV movie-type opportunity to tie up the series’ loose ends, if indeed it does get cancelled. Don’t count on Flash Forward getting the same option, if it gets canned.

Jon Kano 05-14-2010 02:42 PM

Heroes deserves to have another half season at least. Pieces of shit make so much crap waaay shitter yet it goes on longer. Anyone ever seen Gilmore Girls? I nearly slit my wrists with my keys.

Yeah, people were expecting what was advertised.

Anyway, Heroes deserves a more serious sendoff.

CSL 05-14-2010 09:36 PM

Apparently it's been canned, no sendoff or last series etc.

Kalyx triaD 05-14-2010 09:39 PM

Bah

Kane Knight 05-15-2010 09:47 AM

I need to get the rest of the seasons on BD. It wasn't perfect, but there was a lot of good.

El Tigre 05-15-2010 01:52 PM

I don't know if anyone here remembers it but NBC had another show called the The 4400, it had a setup similar to Heroes (ordinary people, un-ordinary powers) and was a pretty good show. But it was canceled right in the middle of a story arc and left completely open-ended. What's the point of doing this? They should at least let these shows come to some sort of conclusion before hand.

Which makes sense from a fan's standpoint or an artist's standpoint, but not a corporate or commercial standpoint.

And I empathise, because when I like a show I want to see it finish. But they're the ones putting money into it, as well as a time slot and promotion. Heroes was still pretty popular, but suffered from a high production cost along with diminished ratings. This particularly sucks because the talent shows are doing time and a half or double the ratings Heroes pulled in on its last couple seasons. Since those shows are relatively cheap to produce (as are reality TV shows), it was probably small consolation that Heroes was still one of the hottest shows for Seasons 2-3 (and possibly 4).

That being said, it helps turn me off from future productions. Fox canceled so many shows before they really got off the ground, I don't bother. If a show's good, and last for more than three episodes, I'll pick it up on DVD. Admittedly, some of those shows probably sucked, but I'll never really know. NBC's probably not that bad, but I only watch like 2 shows on there anyway, so I don't know. I can't say for sure, but I do kind of think that "brand trust" is an issue for the average viewer.

cable's usually better anyway.

Jon Kano 05-15-2010 03:08 PM

Season 1 let's face it was the best season, so different and good.

Season 2 wasn't as good but still good.

The latter half of season 3 I liked.

Season 4 was pants. They screwed up big time.

How so? Besides the fact that Hiro's time traveling got a bit convoluted (a symptom that occurs in practically every show which involves time traveling) it was a descent season: the idea of villains existing outside the scope of the Company gave an additional dimensions to the Heroes universe, and I thought it ended well too.

Jon Kano 05-15-2010 03:47 PM

It was obvious Samuel killed Joseph from the get go, and they tried to go about it in such a way that it would gradually lead up to it, but it was just a mess.

So many other things like...

- Having a cool cast and new characters, but not actually seeing much development or action or 'purpose' that season one and others had.

- Hardly ANY actual conflict; action scenes, fights or impressive epicness at all.

- They had far too many flashback episodes, revisiting the shit with Charlie AGAIN and again. Two Noah episodes that really had anything decent about it. Big deal, he had an affair, who gives a shit.

- The last episode was terrible. The final fight was pathetic.

- They never seem to go anywhere with anything; the compasses that would appear as a tattoo and spin on their own, wtf? and the helix signs we have seen in shit since season 1 - its like they had these little signs that alluded to that maybe there was a bigger masterplan of a stoyline at work, but they just never went anywhere.

- How they practically made Hiro out to be one of the WORST characters ever. His story, his music, everything was just a let down and an annoyance.

- The shit with Nathan/Sylar dragged on far too long.

- And like I said, there was no action, no epic fights or anything. It's like they thought, 'ok most shows try to make their following seasons better than the last, let's go the other way and see how bad we can make it?'.

And yeah, the idea of villains exhisting outsider the scope of the company?...

- Villains and the monster aspect of season 3 focused on it also.

- It's already been done, not only with having heroes as villains but exploring the dark side of character with time travel explorations and having absolute power, ie Peter.

- So they make a new company at the end, of season 4 anyway, its all on repeat.

Kalyx triaD 05-15-2010 05:08 PM

Hey cool, Ray Park. Oh shit, 3.2 scenes tops - 1 showing his martial arts skills.

Jon Kano 05-15-2010 07:24 PM

I know!

I am a big fan of his, and I loved the look of Edgar, but he wasn't used in a good way AT ALL.

I'm not trying to be headed or anything here ok, but I swear to god, with my love for what Heroes once was, and everything I know about screenwriting and for what all my years of studying film and media has - I swear down I believe I could've written a season 4 of Heroes that the real fans would've loved.

I feel exactly like this over:

- Legend of Chun Li
- The upcoming KoF Movie
- Terminator Salvation (in that I would have had the SCC's team ghost write the whole thing)
- Origins Wolverine (although I did like the movie)

I feel like this after everything I see actually. Well except for TSCC. I just enjoyed it and just wanted to see what the writers came up with and enjoyed it.

Sometimes we are wannabe critics or writers and rarely just sit back and enjoy a stupid movie or tv show.

For NBC, I certainly understand the challenge of creating a business model around a show which arrived precisely as the audience was finding new ways to watch traditional content on multiple screens.

I personally have had 12 great years with my friends at NBC, and with 'Heroes,' they provided me a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world. For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the 'Heroes' universe alive for its fans.

parkmania 09-11-2010 01:55 PM

When NBC cancelled Heroes last May (see “Heroes Is Dead”), there was talk of a made for TV movie that would tie up all the series’ loose ends. Now a source close to the show has told Entertainment Weekly that the peacock network is definitely not moving ahead with a movie that would provide fans with one last chance to see what happened to the characters they had been following for four seasons.

Heroes, which was created by Tim Kring, began with very strong ratings, but never recovered from the interruptions created by the writers’ strike. Wildstorm’s two Heroes graphic novels, which were based on a weekly Webcomic created by NBC to promote the series, were very strong sellers.

D Mac 09-11-2010 02:49 PM

Yeah some of the actors have already moved on to other projects.

D Mac 09-11-2010 02:49 PM

Gonna miss Noah Bennett. Or "HRG" He was awesome.

Kalyx triaD 09-11-2010 03:20 PM

Pfft. There'll be a special/spin-off in a while.

Lock Jaw 09-11-2010 04:24 PM

At the very least someone will probably do a comic book continuation.

I still never watched past the first half of season 3. I would have watched the other half, but I thought the season was over with the end of "volume three". After that, never really felt the need to get back in to it.

Kalyx triaD 02-23-2014 02:35 AM

Heroes getting a mini-series next year called "Heroes Reborn".

That's all anybody knows.

I'm curious.

Lock Jaw 02-23-2014 02:45 AM

Onslaught related shenanigans I assume

Fignuts 02-23-2014 02:54 AM

Rob Liefield will be directing.

As such, the budget calls for 22 million dollars worth of pouches.

Kalyx triaD 02-23-2014 03:00 AM

Peter Petreli covered in pouches would be cool, though.

Lock Jaw 02-23-2014 03:02 AM

Need lots of prosthetics to make everyone's body proportions look out of whack...

Disturbed316 02-23-2014 04:01 AM

Be interesting to see who will be back for this. Absolutely loved season one but felt it fade away by the end.

Bobholly138 02-23-2014 04:30 AM

I gave up in the middle of season 3. Should have ended after the first season.

Kalyx triaD 02-23-2014 04:35 AM

I thought the 4th was fine. I was hoping for a 5th season after Clair's big outing. Should be an interesting world now.

Fignuts 02-23-2014 06:03 AM

And everyone needs a bajillion lines on their face to show that they are older than 12.

Corporate CockSnogger 02-23-2014 07:28 AM

Season 4 was def a huge improvement on 2 and 3 but I think by that point they'd ruined the majority of the main characters. I'm definitely interested in seeing something new from them though so long as it's not a huge clusterfuck.

parkmania 02-23-2014 11:00 AM

Yatta!…? NBC’s Heroes shall be reborn, with an event miniseries from creator Tim Kring.

The Peacock network has ordered 13 episodes of a new standalone arc titled Heroes Reborn, with all storyline and character details currently being kept under wraps. The miniseries will air sometime in 2015, preceded by a web series that will introduce the characters and new storylines.

“The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in announcing the project. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment.

“We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept,” Salke continued. “Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

The news comes 10 months after TVLine reported that MSN was pondering a continuation of the series as part of a push for its Xbox platform.

parkmania 02-23-2014 11:03 AM

Hope they can make it all good again without resorting to Hollywood's usual "X was just a dream sequence".

Rammsteinmad 02-02-2015 07:11 AM

This is cool news.

I've only just recently watched Heroes for the first time, and binged watched seasons one and two. Love it!

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-02-2015 11:11 AM

Weird. I thought this was going to be a web series.

Mercenary 02-02-2015 11:38 AM

Can't wait!

Ruien 02-02-2015 03:50 PM

Wasn't season 2 and 3 when the writers went on strike? Hence it was terrible.

Rammsteinmad 02-02-2015 06:51 PM

I thought season 2 was great.

Lock Jaw 02-02-2015 07:41 PM

Season 2 was the best.

Then I watched the first half of season 3 which was alright.... but then I didn't realize it came back for a "second volume" that season and I missed it and never watched any more.

parkmania 02-03-2015 12:58 PM

I guess I'll be in the minority then when I say that Season 2 was complete drivel. That was the season with the writers strike, and when they came back with Black Tar Weepy Girl it just made me cringe.

Jura 02-03-2015 03:44 PM

I liked every season especially since there was no other shows like it at the time. I guess they are finally doing it now to capitalize on the super hero craze that's going on currently and there's a chance that it might be more than just a season if it gets a lot of viewers.

Lock Jaw 02-03-2015 08:05 PM

alvarado52 02-03-2015 08:52 PM

season 2 was awful...or at least, Hiro's story was.

Ruien 02-03-2015 09:08 PM

Hiro was Heroes.

Disturbed316 02-04-2015 05:41 AM

Hiro was easily the standout 'hero' in the first season. Despite Peter, Clare and Nathan probably having more screen time he was easily the best, I remember going crazy at the end when Hiro completed his mission. Then it all went down hill.

alvarado52 02-07-2015 03:15 AM

Overall I agree, but his arch is season 2 wheres he's stuck in the past....slow and boring.

Truthfully, I was pissed that they never focused on the future...I wanted to see more of future Hiro we got in the subway scene.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-07-2015 04:22 PM

Season 2 had Nichelle Nichols. So suck it. That was awesome.

Rammsteinmad 07-13-2015 11:56 AM

Just finished watching season 3 of Heroes. Pretty sure I read somewhere that seasons 3 and 4 got completely slated. I've really enjoyed it and been hooked from the start.

And by the looks of Heroes Reborn, at least Hiro and Noah Bennett will still be in it, so it's somewhat related to the original show.

Ruien 07-13-2015 12:10 PM

Really glad this is not a prequel of Noah Bennett. Can't wait for it to come out. Probably going to re watch the last season of Heroes to get pumped for it.

Disturbed316 02-20-2016 07:32 PM

Finally watched the final episode of this run and can why it's not being renewed. It started off well but by the end it of the series it kinda lost itself. It didn't keep the excitement going and the end pay off just wasn't worth it.
